2024-2025 University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine (UIWSOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
On my end it looks like there won’t be a 6-7 session that day so no worries about that! Your Q&A for the interview will be either from 3:30-4:30 or 4:30-5:30. But it’s completely optional. If you have a plane to catch, they won’t hold it against you!

Had my interview today and I was really stressing because it was my first in-person, traditional interview. But, it was such and great experience. My interviewer was so laid back and we had a great conversation. I feel good about it and the culture there was awesome.

Do you know when the students can hear back from them ? Do they offer pre-A ?

I’m a bit concerned about what I’ve been hearing about this school from previous threads. Can anybody share their recent intel on this school? I already have an OOS A and the prospect of staying in-state would be great, but not sure if I should let location take over reputation.

If you read the more recent year threads you will see that the school has improved the curriculum and student support under the new dean and the student Comlex performance has improved significantly
Maybe reach out to some current students to see what they say

Has anyone heard anything back yet from recent interviews? Or called and asked for an update? I’ve called a few times and can’t get a hold of anyone.

Interviewed on 1/13 and they said 4 weeks which will be next week

Interviewed on 1/13 and still no, I think we’ll find out by Monday or Tuesday next week based on what I’ve seen here

Did anyone who interviewed 1/13 get any admissions updates over the weekend?

No, but I actually prefer to hear back a bit later since tomorrow is the Texas match. Hopefully, that will free up more seats before we get a response
I was also hoping that as well! I am not sure about what post interview acceptance rate is for the school but I think the match with Texas schools will definitely make our odds much greater.

For anyone that got waitlisted, is there anything you can do to convince them to take you off WL like an update letter, new MCAT score? Or is it strictly a luck-numbers game?

Give it the weekend since TMDSAS match day is today. I think a lot of spots here will open up soon because of TX applicants taking TMDSAS school offers.

What are the average statistics of accepted students from previous and current cycles, so I can gauge my chances? 😆

Did ample spots open for UIW after this? Where can I find info on the numbers of what happened after match day?
That degree of detail is not reported by the admissions office. However, the consequence of some people matching to a TMDSAS school will have an impact.
Since applicants just got their Match news on Friday Feb 14, they would have to take some action to notify UIWSOM if they intend to withdraw.

Just curious, how long do they have to notify?

AACOMAS Traffic Guidelines
For DO schools, it looks like the latest is by May 1st.
Per AMCAS, they have deadlines on April 15 to have only 3 schools and April 30 to have only 1 school.
Application and Acceptance Protocols for Applicants

Each TMDSAS school has their own deadlines on when to accept the seat matched. I'm guessing most are before February ends. Schools are also doing rolling waitlist acceptances till May 15. (Edit: TMDSAS also abides by having only 1 school's seat on April 30. Better to assume April 30 for DOs/MDs overall.)

UIWSOM as far as I know did not explicitly give us deadlines after depositing (since the deposit was for a seat). But I'm sure many will start withdrawing as soon as people are sure of which school they want to attend, pending financial aid and other factors confirming a guaranteed seat. Stuff like sending transcripts out and submitting deposits for matched schools are ongoing right now. Some schools don't have deposits, so people may wait till it's safe to withdraw like after receiving a school email/login.

Thanks! I was only familiar with ACCOMAS traffic guidelines, not TMDSAS. But that's interesting to see they have their own deadlines

Ok so I called and the people interviewed on the 1/24 should be hearing back week of March 14
so they have a 6 week turnaround? I interviewed 1/13 and haven't heard back yet. Haven't seen any updates here either.

Also does anyone know if they take letters of intent or update letters? I started to draft one just in case the reason they’re taking so long is to hand out WL decisions

I think they do accept update letters. You would have to email it to their dodoc email

People who interviewed 1/13, should we expect to hear something today or this week?

No and it's making me anxious
It’s so weird, especially since on the earlier parts of this thread and previous years it seems like people have heard back within 4 weeks. Even after my interview, the adcoms said 4 weeks. When I called the admissions office they said Friday of this week at the latest, so I guess we’ll know then! The wait is killing me 😖
