How has it been going so far? Do you personally attend class? Any advice for us waiting to hear post-interview?
I actually stopped attending class after the first module and found it to be more efficient, it’s been going great (took some trial and error but alas it’s been “smooth” sailing). And for post-interview, they usually start sending stuff out post pre-match but it really depends

How do you find the school in general? Have they made improvements and do you think the school work is manageable?

Hey everyone! I’m a current MS1 at UTRGV so if those that are interested/are going to UTRGV feel free to reach out with any questions!
Congrats on starting med school!!

Did you grow up around RGV? What's the area like and how do you like it there? If you're not from the area, how is it getting settled there? I have never been, so I'm wondering what the experience would be like for someone like me who also doesn't speak spanish.

Yes I’m a valley native. From what my classmates have said, it wasn’t a huge culture shock and the adjustment/transition wasn’t too bad. For the speaking Spanish, I would say for some of the big community events you’d be at a slight disadvantage because you wouldn’t get the full patient interaction experience but it won’t stop you from participating/being heavily involved

The faculty is very receptive to our feedback and have implemented changes as best as possible. The school work is manageable but it will take hard work and good time management. Drinking water out of a fire hydrant (however “corny”) is absolutely 100% accurate

I have worked in the valley. Suffice to say if you are seeing patients, especially in emergency or outpatient, speaking spanish is almost a must. There are SO MANY spanish-only patients there. Nurses can translate for you (which, technically they shouldn't, but it's what happens when docs down here aren't fluent), but it can be rough. The area is like, 96% hispanic after all.

They will have you schedule it after your in-person interview day. They will try to have both interviewers call you the same morning or afternoon.
If you are a no-show for the in-person component, you will not get the two remote interviews.
@wysdoc .. If we dont go in-person, do we still get to remote personal interview online ?

No, they have split it into 2 components and you have to do them both to stay in the running for admission.
They are seeing who is willing to make the trip to Edinburg, and also they think it's important for you to see the region to make an informed choice.
Here is what their page says:

For the entry year 2025, there will be two different interviewing methods. An in-person groupinterview will be conducted first, followed by two interviews via Zoom on a set date.

If you are selected to participate in a group interview, you will receive an email invitation to the email address you provided on your primary application. Please plan to visit the UTRGV SOM campus for a half-day. In addition to the group interview, there will be presentations regarding financial aid, curriculum, the Rio Grande Valley, and other opportunities.

Once you have completed the group interview, please log onto your UTRGV application portal to schedule your ZOOM interview. As part of the online interview process, applicants will be required to attend two interviews: the Interview Committee conducts two 30-minute interviews. During the online interview process, you may choose the date when you would like to be interviewed. It is important to note that you will only be able to choose the date of the interview, not the time. On the day of your choice, we will make every effort to schedule both interviews in the morning or afternoon.

Applicants who do not attend the in-person group interview will have their applications withdrawn from consideration by the Admissions Committee.

I just now received an email from admissions saying my video response never uploaded. I had no idea and followed the directions and thought it worked just fine. How worried should I be?

Compress your file even more and try again. It takes several minutes to upload from what people tell me.

Anyone who's gone to the group interview, is the campus tour mostly outdoors? I'm worried about getting too hot while wearing a suit/formal clothing.

It should be mostly indoors. No hotter there than other Texas cities at the moment (high 80's probably)

IS II! Complete 7/2

Also having trouble with the URL to sign up, is anyone else having the same issues?

NVM, figured it out!

Does anyone know how often/when they add virtual interview dates? They sent an email about it yesterday, but the dates were filled by the time I checked.

In their email it says you have to receive an invitation before you schedule your virtual interview date. Hope that helps!

I interviewed online about 2 weeks after my in-person interview! There were two openings for online interviews the next week on Monday and Friday, but I remember them filling up fairly quickly so schedule them ASAP.
