Gosh. A few friends just called me saying they got a Pre-II R. It's a blood bath.

Fearing the same thing, I ended up emailing them and they confirmed that my application was received and "under review".

But they never got back to me explaining my lack of a Federal Disclosure email.

an observation merely to satisfy my own curiosity: based on admit.org and SDN, it truly doesn't look like there was any decipherable pattern to the wave of R's sent out today. IS and OOS applicants got R's. Early secondary submissions (late July/early August) and late(r) secondary submissions (late August/early September) got R's. High stat applicants and low stat applicants got R's. The theory of alphabetical R's doesn't seem to hold true either.

If someone told me they used a random applicant number generator to choose whose application to review in what order.... I wouldn't think they're crazy. LOL

Woohoo! I'm not at the bottom 15% of their applicants! Now I just need to not be their bottom 97% and I'm good to go.

Based on Admit, it did seem like the vast majority of the R’s were clustered toward “lower” GPAs (below 3.7–3.8) and “lower” MCATs (below 515~), which is notable considering Admit skews very high with regard to stats. Only a couple folks with Admit scores above 700~ got rejected, but I suppose that isn’t surprising. It did not seem chronological to me.

I put “lower” in quotes because those aren’t inherently low metrics, of course.

I meant gateway, my bad. On the top of the page, it says my photo has been received. Below that, it says:

Thank you for completing the supplemental application for the Keck School of Medicine of USC Doctor of Medicine Program. Your application is under review. We use a "rolling admissions" format, so the evaluation process goes until April 30th, end of cycle. However, you will be notified as soon as a decision has been reached.

I took that as meaning that I was complete. I never received a formal completion email, just the federal regulation disclosures message soon after I submitted.

i never got an email saying thank u for submitting secondary app just an email about being a resident of cali
 
What does it mean if you haven’t been rejected yet? How on earth did they decide who to reject and who not to reject? Does that mean if we haven’t been rejected we made it past the first wave? What percent of applicants have been rejected after their big ole wave??

I’ve started to accept it’s futile to ask questions like this as their answers are unknown to anyone who would post on this forum lol

Think of it as a dating app. You’ve already sent your like to this handsome dude named “Keck”. Now it’s sitting in his likes section with a bunch of others. Keck has matched with some people from this section and gone on dates (interviews) while actively rejecting profiles he doesn’t like.
He may have come across your profile and wanted to see what else was out there before making a final decision or may not have seen it yet. At this point all you can do is wait and take some new photos (updates) to improve your chances if you need to reapply.

No one really knows. On Admit, 17% of the applicants have reported R's, but this likely underestimates the true rate (Admit users are skewed toward stronger applicants, and plenty of folks probably never returned to report their R's). Most of the folks on Admit who got rejected also seemed to have relatively "lower" stats compared to USC's median GPA/MCAT. You can filter the cycle results tab by Admit score to see that more clearly.

No news is better than bad news, but I would guess that a majority of applicants haven't heard anything so I wouldn't take silence as a surefire sign that you're up next for an interview. Probably just best to forget about it until you hear something.
