Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2013 - 2014

Please elaborate! I am interviewing soon at CUSOM, waiting on the post interview answer from Nova and accepted Lecoms. I am very excited about CUSOM but would love to hear your thoughts on exactly what makes it special and a cut above. It's good to have these hard decisions!!!

You can click on my name and see what I have posted. Read the one in ACOM and what I have posted here. I will try to write more later. Nova is a great school! Just not near as awesome as these two. CUSOM really brings it in the simulation lab area, anatomy lab and OMM. ACOM also has a great OMM and anatomy lab, their Sims are def not as advanced but better than Nova. Nova Sim lab set up, actual glassed in hospital type rooms, were better than ACOM tho. CUSOM just gave me the shivers when I saw their multiple amazing simulators! I have a hard choice to make...

Hard choice indeed... but are you willing to give up this view?!?! lol 🙂

So to everyone who was accepted, are you for sure going here? I am definitely going to send my deposit, but am still going to interview at Nova and hopefully Marian and Chicago(close to home). I just want to see other schools before I settle in, even though CUSOM was awesome and I doubt other schools can hold a candle to its facilities.

I get my MCAT retake score back on the 17th. Unless it makes me more competitive for MD, I'm going to CUSOM. I will be sending my deposit on Monday and have withdrawn all of my other DO apps. A nice MD acceptance is the only thing that will keep me for CUSOM.

Canceling my interview here. Hope it goes to someone in the sdn family.

The sports bar right next to the Microtel is quite good too (love their tacos!)

How are classes so far? The faculty I talked to during interviews seemed great, but how are they in lecture? Do you feel like you get a lot out of them or no difference from elsewhere? I realize med school will take up most of our time, but how much do you feel like you study on weekends and nights vs how much free time you have? Is the integrated curriculum working for you?

Thanks for your time, I know you're busy

Hey,

Sorry it took me so long, still recovering from the last exam!
As for the classes, most of the faculty are good in class, some better than others. There are a few courses where I really have to read the book BEFORE class to be able to follow the powerpoint but that's fine. I do get a lot out of most lectures, especially because they test primarily from their own powerpoints (they are pretty good about cluing you in as to what are the key points). As for studying - normally I study from about 7pm to midnight (I don't need too much sleep). On a test weekend, all bets are off and I don't leave the house except for review sessions. You really have to make your free time, I have a rule that I get to watch TV when I eat (I don't study at all during meals) and I walk my dogs for about 45 minutes every day after class. Make sure you try to plan out your time and stick to it, over studying is just as bad as under studying. I like the integrated curriculum OK, it makes you stay on top of everything and make connections from one class to another - only thing I might change would be more quizzes/supplemental grades (for example our last test constitutes 85% of our pharmacology grade 🙁). I hope that answers your questions. Good luck!

Hey guys, this might be a completely asinine question but I'll ask anyway. I got my mcat retake score back and scored a 30 (up 6 points from my initial 24). I've already recieved an acceptance here at CUSOM. Should I bother emailing them to let them know the increase? I'm sending my deposit out tomorrow so does it even matter?

I would let them know just for statistical purposes. Congrats on doing so well! Nice confidence booster I'm sure.

so it looks like CUSOM has saturday interviews, is that correct? because that would be super awesome.

You'd be more likely to get a scholarship offer if you let them know.

Nice work!! I know you were nervous about that at the interview... You must feel a whole lot better!

Ahhhh I just got a call telling me I'm accepted!!! I just interviewed on Monday, I def was not expecting to hear back so soon!!!!!!!!!!

Now I don't know what to do, I still have four interviews, one at UNE which was one of my top choices..hmm..

Just got that glorious phone call! Still waiting to hear back from other schools but congrats to everyone accepted and maybe see you guys in the fall 😀

Congrats! Welcome to the CUSOM club 🙂

Congrats to all accepted!!!! So awesome! Be sure to join the FB page! CUSOM Class of 2018!

Accepted! Loved the school and the faculty were so freaking nice. Going to be a very tough decision for me to pick schools.

Rejected post-interview :/

Do you think they'll tell me why I'd I ask them?

I doubt they will tell you something specific like you want to hear. They will probably tell you there were candidates that are a better fit for the school's mission, etc,etc.But....why do you want to know anyway?

Accepted woo hoo my first acceptance!

I would love to hear of anyone with a MCAT <27 that has been accepted. It seems like most who have posted acceptances here have >27.

Kinda freaking out--I'm still waiting on an ii.
Complete 9/4.
Non-trad, NC res, TONS of hospital experience, leadership, EC, blah blah blah
3.55 sgpa, 3.5 cgpa, 4.0 MS gpa.... 25 MCAT 🙁
Am I being unreasonable in panicking?

Take a deep breathe and relax. Your stats are fine. It's especially beneficial to you that you are a NC resident, CUSOM treats their own kind well 🙂

Just be patient

My GPA is about the same plus having a few Cs, even in prereqs. MCAT 26 7/11/8. That 4.0 is awesome! Deep breath. There is plenty of time still in the interview season. And like has been mentioned being from NC will help!

So that at the next interview, I can fix any problems I had

You defiantly can call and ask. I know of people who did and asked how they could improve and it helped them for their next interview. The worst they could tell you is nothing.

I was accepted with a 24 mcat! don't think it's a deal breaker at CUSOM.

Just remember, they have the same number if staff as last year. however there are many more applicants to read through... Its very early in the cycle, oh yea did I also mention that they are working on nursing program... I got to sleep... too much pharmacology not enough brain power for English..

Very true. More apps require more time simply put.

Does the nursing program start when the class of 18 starts?

I got accepted here with a 24 MCAT. Just relax. It's still very early.

Did anyone who doesn't have the require pre-reqs completed yet receive a secondary application? AACOMAS reclassified one of my English courses to biology and now I don't have the required credit hours. I'm just worried I won't get a secondary because I already got an email confirming that CUSOM received my primary application, but they haven't fixed this error yet.
