Same here.

I've already cancelled an interview and have a feeling I might say no thanks to all other schools. Campbell just felt like "home" for me.
 
Deposit has been sent. Background check and drug screen paid for! So excited!

Has anyone else not been able to get a hold of anyone at campbell in the last 2 days? I sent an email yesterday and called today. No response.
 
This is exactly how it felt for me as well. It just felt right. I love everything about the place.

Today was a huge deal for CUSOM, CU, Harnett County and the State as a whole with the ribbon cutting which my classmate just mentioned and it put all else on stand still today.

It is truly humbling to be part of the vision of the school and addressing the needs here. I look forward to interacting with those of you visiting CUSOM or who choose to join us next year!

what airport did people fly into Raleigh/Durham? it's a good 45-50 minutes from Campbell med

I tried some of the closer airports, but they don't have flights coming from newark airport.

what's there to do around the city?? my boyfriend is helping me drive to interview day but we have to check out of the hotel by 11 and he needs a couple hours to kill. any good coffee shops or anything fun??
 
I submitted my secondary app on 9/18. Am I too late? My stats are cGPA 3.94, sGPA 3.88, MCAT 27. Is there any chance for me?

Still no call-back or email response today. I did however get an email saying that my deposit had been received. I must be one of the first because it hadn't been edited for class of 2018 and still said "welcome to the charter class of 2017" lol

Well congratulations at the very least on making a decision AND being done so early in the cycle. I know all too well how much energy (and money) this process can be!
 
Thanks. I am very excited to be apart of what I believe will be the top DO school in the country within 10 years!

I agree that I think this school will be a DO powerhouse in the future, makes the decision hard for sure. Do you guys think cusom would work with DO students who want to do an MPH? Their other professional programs all have that option...

that is a tough question, I really don't know the answer to that but what I do know is that if you bring that up they'll be happy to work with you.
 
it would be really cool if you were the first one to get a MPH DO from Cusom- equivalent to the idea of a big fish in a small pond..

Good question. I'd be curious to know the answer to this as well. I asked a similar question via e-mail about the possibility of working on an MBA at the same time. I was told it would be possible to make it work- but you need all of the business pre-req's and it would not be as geared toward health care as I'd want compared to other schools that offer DO/MBA. I was told it is something that they are hoping to get put together in the future.
 
Email sent, will post when I hear back. I know that te MPH would be useful in terms of what I want to do in the future, but it's not a game changer, it's always an option in residency or post.

Dr Soderling, the Director for our Global Health and Medical Missions department (or whatever you want to call it) chat with us during lunch last week and there is ongoing exploration about a possible track for those interested in this field, potentially leading to a Masters degree. For those of you interested in a MPH, depending on your specific interest, I figured I would wet your palate a bit 😉

As one who seriously explored a dual degree with an MPH I ultimately accepted the advice from those who came before me in stating that the most worth while time to get it is up the road after you have more experience. An MPH gives you tools but perspective and life experience as a doctor really give you the priceless information to know what direction to gear your MPH and what what you need to take away from the formal education.

I was just sitting here comparing schools and one big thing CUSOM has in its favor is the International Medicine rotations. Thank you for more info!
 
Was complete a week ago and no secondaries. It's frustrating because I got sec from DMU.. Why do you think I don't have one from cusom?

don't worry! Do you really think that any med school will pass up free money from II? I know this because I applied to around 30 medical schools; and none of them, I will repeat NONE of them did not send me a secondary.

There is a cute little coffee shop next to the gas station off one of the traffic circles. Creek Coffee (if you like chocolate, try a "frozen hot chocolate"😍) they are wonderful. If he likes old cars there is also a classic car dealership he could look around across the highway from the Microtel. You also have some of the typical thrift shops and stuff in Lillington if that's something he would be interested in.

Aside from the fact that your matriculating 😛, what did you really like about the school?

Questions for Any CUSOM student!!!!

On a separate note, will specializing (Emergency Medicine) be difficult at CUSOM? I know that they are looking to produce primary care but what's their stance on EM?

I also understand that EM rotations are done as a 4th year. Would that put me at a disadvantage when applying for residency? Sorry noob pre-med here.
 
My II was for Tuesday September 17, 2013. A group of 8 of us were the last interviews prior to their evaluation day. Received a call on Wed September 18 and was accepted. This is my 3rd choice school but knowing I have an acceptance is amazing. Anyone on SDN from that interview day. How goes everyone else?

There are many medical schools (both MD/DO) that do not have EM as a "core rotation" in their 3rd year but instead in the 4th year. However, the good thing is that many of these schools have what is called an "elective/selective" rotation toward the end of the 3rd year. According to CUSOM's projected curriculum, it too has a 4 week elective/selective rotation at the end of 3rd year. You can utilize this "elective" to rotate through any specialty you may be interested in.

So what you could potentially do is in your 3rd year, use the elective to rotate through EM. Then in your 4th year, if you're still interested in EM, you can do your core EM rotation at the hospital you wish to pursue a residency at so you can schmooze with the EM program director there.

CUSOM also has (3) 4-week elective rotations and a Sub-Internship rotation in the 4th year to further explore other potential specialties you may be interested in. If you're still committed to EM, then you can use these electives to set up "away" rotations at hospitals anywhere in the country. Some students do this to have a "vacation" rotation in Hawaii or San Diego or some fun relaxing location, a great way to relax and kick back as you complete your medical school career. Other students use these electives to do "away" rotations at hospitals in other states that they would like to apply for residency, again to show face and schmooze with the residents/PDs at those locations, increasing their chances to match there.

Also, although EM is not officially considered primary care, many organizations, scholarships, and schools still group EM with primary care.

So to answer your question, no, there is nothing to worry about in regards to pursuing EM at CUSOM. Haha... hope that helps

CUSOM has actually officially stated dozens of times that they are looking to train ER docs and general surgeons as well as primary care. They are even setting up residencies in both of those in the near future as well.
 
When I was there for interview, one of the students that had lunch with us was telling us about a connection CUSOM has with a very renowned EM residency I think? Do you know anything about this?

First and foremost, my initial impression was incredible. CUSOM was the first school to send me a secondary and being ignorant to the process, I called Joy with questions. She was kind, patient, helpful, and encouraging. Every other school I've had interactions with has given off the "why do YOU deserve for us to accept you?" CUSOM understands that you are spending a lot of money for your education and I feel confident that they will work very hard to do everything they can to educate me to be the very best doctor I can be.

After touring the facilities, I was blown away. I toured UNC, Wake, and Duke and CUSOM makes them all look like a community college nursing department. CUSOM has dumped an unbelievable amount of money assuring that you as the student are getting the very best that technology has to offer so that you are getting your money's worth.

Medical school is very expensive. I want to go to a school that is sensitive to that and understands that I am paying for a service. That service they provide is teaching me how to be a knowledgable affective physician. Most schools I have interaction with seem to forget that I am going to be paying them a lot of money for this service and that I will forever being giving them an explanation of why I deserve to pay them 40k a year.

On a lighter note I love the location, residency contracts, and focus on good patient communication.

They aren't just acting nice either. The people at CUSOM are genuine, and that has been nice so far given the already stressful situation of being in medical school. I don't know anything about the residency you are referring to, but they have set themselves up very nicely with great clinical and future residency sites. They actually announced at the ribbon cutting that they plan to have at least 162 new residency slots in primary care, EM, and general surgery by the time we graduate. This is great to hear given all the new schools opening and the residency crunch that CUSOM will not be contributing to this problem.
 
I have an ii with CUSOM on oct 12th (first of three scheduled as of now). It's probably my first choice out of the three and the above posts have only strengthened my interest in the school, so thank you all for responding. My only hesitation is that the school is fairly new but it seems like it has its act together. Otherwise, this seems like an amazing school and I can't wait to interview here.

Reading all of this made me remember what an amazing day I had there and how impressed I was with CUSOM! They are just phenomenal! I have no idea what to do....

I understand this concern. It was one of mine too but CUSOM has addressed all the issues that would alarm a student about it being a new school. They have guaranteed residency contracts, a ridiculous amount of secure funds saved to assure financing of the school during the building years, huge support from the community, and incredible faculty that have years of experience practicing and teaching.
