Campbell University (CUSOM) DIscussion Thread 2013 - 2014

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I called today to ask where I rank on the wait list. She said they have sent out all 162 acceptances but not everyone has accepted and paid their deposits. She said they will start ranking students on the wait list by next week and I should know by then where I rank. Good luck y'all!

Hey everyone, I was just accepted today to CUSOM. How was accepted students day?

It was awesome. We have a good class. The faculty and current students were nothing but helpful and supportive. Everyone was excited for us to be there in a few months.

Congrats! Yeah I agree, accepted students day was awesome. It was great being at the school again without being stressed like at the interview. The staff is great, and the school/curriculum/rotations/residency spots are all looking amazing. Not your typical "new med school."

Don't worry though, you'll get to see all this and meet everyone in a few months for orientation, and also on the FB page.

So I know that no one has gone through this yet. For third our clinical rotations, are we allowed to stay at one hospital for the whole year? I wouldn't want to move after 3 months of IM rotation to another hospital to do surgery rotation.

Interviewing here next week. She said it may or may not be for a wait list position. I have an acceptance already from another school...so my question is if it is for a wait list position, then I probably won't be hearing back for quite some time (summer?)...do I wait around or attend the other school?? Anyone have any thoughts on this? Campbell originally was my 1st choice however, I love the other school as well after interviewing there

I think it's dr Kessler who handles rotations....just call him and ask but I know he was working on setting up regional hubs for rotations so some people could stay near campus and some could go to Raleigh for two years if they wanted to do so

Definitely a personal decision that should be weighed with many factors. Look at curriculum, rotation sites, location to family, cost, and so on. I personally would attend the interview, and then you should be able to know if it's worth waiting or not.

Also, I remember that being a big selling point to me, that you can do all (or at least most) of your rotations at the same site 3rd and 4th year.

Hey everyone!

I just got an Interview Invite today! I realize it's probably for the waitlist, but any thoughts on my chances? It'd be for April 8, and I'd be flying in from Illinois!

Honestly, I doubt it's for a waitlist spot. Makes no sense to me why the school would invite you now if there isn't still a spot open. Last I heard (last Saturday) there are still 3 spots open. I imagine it's pretty competitive for those last spots.

This might have been mentioned already, but I did a quick perusal and didn't really see anything. How have past interviewees gotten to the university without a car? I'd be flying in to raleigh airport, but there doesn't seem to be much public transportation to and from the airport. Any tips for transportation?

I think the only real option is to rent a car at the airport, unless you know someone in the area who you can coax into driving you.

Ahh, I'm not old enough to rent a car. Is my only option to get a cab or something? I feel like that might be really expensive.

Yes, I kinda checked with the cab services and its like around 80-85$ each way - pretty expensive !

How old are you? I just had to pay the under 25 young renter's fee (it was like $10-$15 extra) and I was good to go.

What company did you rent from?

I've done this before with Advantage. The airport has every car rental company though (Dollar, Thrifty, Enterprise, Hertz, etc...). Just check their websites (or a site like Orbitz) and look for how much they charge for under 25.

yeah don't get a cab. Renting a car is much easier. I booked Dollar for under 25.

Aha! I just looked on the airport website and you can rent a car for much cheaper than a taxi ride even if you're under 25. What a relief. 😀 Thanks all 🙂

Has anyone heard anything about the interviews that happened this week (03/25) ???

Thanks

Has anyone heard anything on Dates for Orientation / First Day of Classes? Also, good luck to all on the wait list!!

Does anyone even get rejected at this school? It seems that everyone here has been waitlisted, accepted, or waitlisted then accepted. I've been waitlisted since JANUARY. 🙁 Hoping and praying everyday that I didn't get overlooked because I'd be so happy to attend this school.

Just got accepted off the wait list yesterday! could not be more excited!! I missed accepted students day since it was last week. Is their a Facebook group? I would love to maybe find some roommates

Does someone know whether it is required to have 6 credits upper division bio coursework ? I am still completing my pre reqs - planning to take O Chem 2 and Genetics in summer - not having those upper division coursework affect the admissions decision ?

Yep - I did see that - but it says "recommended" not like its mandatory - thats why I was wondering whether it will affect the admissions decisions or so;
Yeah, that's odd how it says highly recommended subset under, "The required undergraduate courses for entry will be:." I didn't notice that at first.

Well, you're taking genetics. Do you have another science course completed or planned other than the required ones?

Summer is the only sem I have now before class starts at Campbell in August - I am kinda planning to take Genetics and OChem 2 during summer - since its kinda short sem courses, the classes are like every day and kinda its tough to take one more as the schedules overlap quite a bit. Well - at the max I will have one upper division bio (genetics) - I will be short of one course by the time of matriculation - thats y was wondering about whether thats gonna impact my admissions !

You're admitted? I think you're fine with just genetics. It does say highly recommended for those 6 credits. I would call the school, but I doubt anyone would care at this point. As long as you have those core courses completed. Sometimes schools outline in the admission material what you need completed before matriculation such as you must earn a C in all of your remaining classes, etc. I'm not sure if CUSOM does that. I'm non-traditional and my degree was completed a couple of years ago, so I didn't really get any information on that.

Hello all! I was accepted in December & was 95% sure I would be attending. That 95% has recently became a 100% & it feels Amazing! Does anyone have any useful resources for House hunting? I am looking for houses in the Holly Springs area. My wife is actually transferring with her company & begins June 2. I called one realtor in the area who was a real jerk. He basically told me it was a hot/rapid moving market & with a June 1 move in date, I was wasting his time calling prior to May 15. Any help is greatly appreciated, I'll be joining that Facebook group soon!

Hey y'all, just trying to crunch some last minute numbers for loans. Does anyone know what CUSOM's COA (cost of attendance, not just tuition) is?
