Campbell University (CUSOM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

They interview Monday and Tuesday. Each interview day has about 12-15 interviewees. It's very likely that they haven't gotten to your file. Since you interview Monday, it's very likely for you to get the good news by the end of tomorrow. Just chillax.

Then I wouldn't stress, no point in worrying about it. Just try and keep your mind off it and see what happens in the next couple of days.
 
Does anyone know the interview to acceptance ratio?
 
Will Campbell review secondaries without LORs? I'm still waiting on my committee letter. It was supposed to be done a week ago and my advisor is still dragging his ass. I don't think he realizes that most schools will not look at secondaries without the LOR.
 
Got the II email 3 days ago. I've been on the edge of my seat, keeping my phone fully charged and by my side 24 hours a day since then so I don't miss the scheduling call. Today I finally got a call from NC....and it was a telemarketer.

Your avatar is apply chosen lol. I do as well, but I've always been more of a lecture learner so hopefully they like me.

If I'm not mistaken, they give you practice tests for each subject which have questions similar to that of the boards/the material the boards cover. I believe you have to get >70% in order to sit for the COMLEX I. My understanding is that you can take these multiple times but if you can't get >70% after 2-3 takes....it might be best to reconsider taking the boards and for that matter be in med school (this is second hand knowledge of course and only what I've heard from my gf).
 
I interviewed recently. I wasn't extended an offer of admission. I don't think it's because of my interviewing skills. I think it's because they realize that there's a high chance I won't stay and practice in North Carolina. There's a variety of factors involved. PM if you want to ask about my experience and I will gladly share my insights with you.

If you want an admission, you need to make sure that you give off a strong vibe about wanting to stay in North Carolina and treat rural patients there. One of the guys in my group literally was asked where he's planning to set up his practice. I personally think that it's a little bit unrealistic to get promises from applicants about where they want to set up their practice 10 years from now.

Oh well...
 
Interview tips for here: BE yourself, don't rehearse a bunch of answers, show interest in the school by asking questions about the atmosphere (questions that show you want to see if Campbell is a fit for you).

I don't think you need to stress wanting to practice or stay in NC. Just show interest in the school and be real.

I agree, I was accepted and didn't stress staying in North Carolina. I think one interviewer asked about where I wanted to practice and I said, wherever the opportunity presents itself etc. but was open to NC.

I couldn't agree more. Some interviewers might like ppl with certain characteristics like attachment to a state, but all interviewers want someone who seems genuine and honest. If your from way OOS, like me, and you sing in your interview about how you want to practice in NC without any clear reasons, they're probably going to think that your full of sh&$.

You don't have to say you're going to definitely practice in NC. For example, I talked about how I'm thinking of having a family when I graduate and I wanted to be away from the cities. My girlfriend wants to work in the pharmaceutical industry so it seemed like a great place to live since it was near the Research Triangle. There are plenty of research opportunities around. I also talked about how I grew up in a suburban town with a population of less than 15,000 and I am only 30 minutes from NYC and Holly Springs seemed to be similar. There was Raleigh which is less than an hour away.

I basically said I think it would be a nice place to start a family and settle down here. Just be mature about it and acknowledge that you can see yourself living here.

It means that you are going to be contacted by Jan once they have an idea about how the so called cream on of the crop prioritizes them. Don't sweat it.

Well, you still give them a strong vibe by leaving the door open. I was just honest with them stating my commitment to a certain organization for residency and beyond. Cusom and I aren't meant to be a match, and it's ok. However, future interviewees just need cognizant of CUSOM's #1 priority especially for this interview. It's a useful tip. I'm not here to bash the school.

At anyone who can answer this: how does CUSOM view people doing military? I will be doing hpsp airforce and they dont let me pick where i live.

There were a number of hpsp students I spoke too, and at least 1 from my group was accepted. They even talked about hpsp as a school funding option. I do not think that would have any bearing on an acceptance.

First of all, you don't get the hpsp until you are accepted to a medical school. So, most of your buddies are just considering hpsp as a funding option. If you want to talk about this issue further, pls pm me. There are some cusom admission people who admit to be lurkers on this forum. Obviously, I don't care. But, I don't want people to possibly say stuff here that might pinpoint who they are. HPSP is def a topic that shouldn't be talked on this forum.

Cusom loves the military students, but it is accurate that until you have that acceptance you are just a hopeful hpsp student

Hey sb247 just had a quick question about CUSOM, might be a stupid Q but are male students allowed to grow beards or have long hair?

We have a few lumberjack level beards...I don't know if the lack of long hair is just selection bias but I don't remember a rule

I got an interview email August 28th but I still have not received a call to schedule it... is anyone else in a similar situation?
 
Any way we would know who our faculty interviewers will be? Who the 8 are?
 
You would find out when you arrive for your interview via the packet they give you. Good luck!
 
N.C resident. Was going to pass on this school due to the accreditation status, but I decided to go ahead and submit my primary (a month later after being complete at all my other schools..lol) after interacting with some of the CUSOM students. I'm an EMT, so I have noticed them rotating in hospitals we frequent.
 
Interviewed on 9/8. Nothing but good things to say. Love the facilities and the faculty. Think it's a very welcoming environment and good place to raise a family/start a family. Cost of living is cheap and anything you need city wise is not a far drive away. I'm from an urban city ,born and raised, I think most people would find CUSOM and the area a nice balance between rural and surburban living. Obviously if you want Sun, beaches, clubs and fine dinning this is not the area for you IMHO.

Anyone got anything from CUSOM regarding merit scholarships? I got nothing so far.
 
Got the "In depth review" update a couple of days ago. It's been this way at every school. I get the feeling my app throws adcoms for a total loop.
