Hey BabyDoc86, did they say who they were thinking about giving scholarships to? As in, people who've done something exceptional in their EC's or did it seem like it was merit-based, someone with high stats?

Unfortunately, no. All I was told was that the committee was meeting in the next few weeks. I have no idea what they consider. It would be awesome to get one, but I don't have high hopes for it.

EDIT: I think I read somewhere that to be automatically considered for one, they required a 3.6+ GPA and a 30+ MCAT, but I don't know if they also consider anyone else with exceptional ECs, etc. or not.

FYI, I got an email from Anna last week that the scholarship committee would be meeting in the next few weeks, and once a final decision was made, those who have scholarship offers will be emailed.
I was told that financial aid info won't be available to us until school starts?

Definitely not true. Financial Aid packages (I'm assuming this means any loans available, in addition to those who get scholarships) are available on Pulse in March (per the Class Guide link).

Can any of the current students comment on the above post, that one of your interviewers has a high likelihood of being your mentor? I would love to have Dr. Wilson as mine, so I'm hoping it's true!

I've heard this is true as well.

Have any of you gotten in with a lower MCAT score? By lower, I mean <26. I got an interview with a lower MCAT, and so far the only people on this thread that I saw commenting on that issue have gotten wait-listed/rejected even though their interview went supposedly well. I am obviously going either way, it would just be nice to know if there is even a remote chance of getting an acceptance... Thanks🙂

pm me if you want hope...lol...Ill let you know my score...was accepted and will be attending DMU

My interviewer is now my adviser, and it sounded like he had also interviewed several of his other advisees, so there is a good chance you would get him.

THAT would be so cool! I had Dr. Fell and Dr. Akbar. I loved them both!

Would it be appropriate to call DMU admissions if it has been over 60 days since our complete date? I don't want to be rude, but would also like to save money on deposits elsewhere if at all possible!

I did after 60 days and I received an II the week after.

Couldn't hurt! If you're past the 60 day mark and haven't heard anything, I think you'd be ok if you called.

Weird... I was in the exact same situation as you and I called today.. Glad I did because they sent out my interview invite over a month ago and I never got the email... I had been checking my spam folders and everything! 😱

Just a heads up for others who may be in the same situation..

Just received an II for 1/25. I was complete 10/31. Can't wait to meet everyone!

Woo! II today for 1/31. Kinda debating going since I've already been accepted to AZCOM and KCUMB so if i get in i'll have to forfeit a deposit to one of those. From what i hear though, it might be worth it

So unless I put the deposit down, I won't have access to financial aid info?

I don't think this is quite true either. The info I have says that some scholarship offers may be made in December, but the full financial aid package info isn't available until March. I'm assuming that's for all accepted students. I don't think you have to have your deposit paid in order to get that info, but that's just speculation since I don't have any information that says you have to pay the deposit first.

And as always, someone please correct me if I am mistaken/misinformed!

Late reply, but yeah your interviewer will be your advisor. 🙂 This is the case with everyone I know, except for some people who came off the waitlist really late and decided to matriculate.

PS - Dr. Wilson is amazing, and I hear he is a fantastic advisor (no surprise there!).

That is what I like to hear! 🙂

Oh okay. I was hoping to get some info out of adcom, but I was told that it won't be available until the beginning of the year. Oh well.

Hi all! I received an II a couple weeks back and am extremely excited for this school! Does anybody know the stats of how many interviews/acceptances are given from DMU? I would like to get a better idea of my chances of getting into this program after now having been granted an interview. I have been searching through the 30+ pages of this thread and through DMU's site but have yet to find the info. Congrats to all accepted and good luck to all interviewing!

Looking for housing is already making me feel overwhelmed. Anyone else having any luck?

Uh oh. You just awoke a little man inside of me named stress. He's been asleep since after eating Thanksgiving dinner.

Haha. I can't help it. Hoping to take off the week of my husband's spring break so we can check out a few places.

And by the way, I snagged a copy of Mountains Beyond Mountains from the campus library. 🙂

Amazing book!! It seriously changed my life!

Housing search is making me miserable too. I'm really not sure how to begin. Craigslist is kind of scary. How early do you plan to move?

I'm wanting to work as long as possible. I'm thinking about a move-in date of 8/1. 😕

👍 In grad school I actually read parts of Paul Farmer's other book, but not this one. ModernAlchemist recommended it to me. I'm enjoying it so far.

I'm so glad you got around to reading it! Now we can discuss how epic it is.

Did you get that paper with a list of apartments in the Des Moines area on interview day? It's SO helpful! I have been looking up each apartment and seeing what they have to offer. I'm so blown away at how cheap the rent is out there compared to where I am now.
There are a few places right across the street from campus too. I'd love to live right across the street. I wonder if those places are hard to get though because everyone wants them.

I was accepted off the waitlist about a month before school started and was able to secure an apartment directly across the street. Personally I couldn't imagine living anywhere else due to how convenient this place is! Although there might not be too many openings now, many second years might be moving out later in cycle

Are you in the Imperial or where?
