LECOM-Bradenton Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed yesterday, today when I checked the portal it said
something to the effect of

" The admission committee has made a decision on your file, you will be notified by mail in 30 days''

From previous interviewees, did you get something like this as well. I am really nervous to call in and find out. My gut tells me that it might be WL or R. Did anyone get this and it turned out to be an acceptance?

i'm pretty sure everyone gets this message. i had it (i was accepted), and it didnt change again until i sent in my deposit. im not sure if it changed the day after my interview, but i interviewed on a wednesday and they said that they would make their decision the following tuesday, so maybe they meet every tuesday and thats why yours is showing up so soon. (also, i didnt feel great about my interview either so hopefully you will get good news!) hopefully this makes sense...took my biochem final today so im pretty tired. on the up side, winter break begins now!!

good luck!!

i was at the same interview lol. the morning session right?

Has anyone who interviewed on November 19th heard anything yet, or at least had your status on the Lecom Portal change yet?

I think I will wait for the school to call me until Monday. If they do not contact me by then, then I will call them. (interviewed on Dec 6th). Anyone else who interviewed at that date hear anything from Bradenton.

Is the school calling now? We were told (given this was early October) that we could either call or wait for snail mail. I don't get why people torture themselves by waiting.

I was under the impression that they would call us by Monday. (angryazn88 can you verify this since you were there at the interview). I actually did call on Wednesday, and got sent directly to voicemail 2x. So my guess is they will reveal the acceptances when they feel the need to. Plus, who would want to call and find out they were rejected or waitlisted, that would mess a whole day lol.

haha i actually called on wednesday morning at 8:30am after my monday interview last month. it was my first interview/acceptance and I felt the interview went really well so I was "expecting" an acceptance. just called on Wednesday AM and within 2 minutes I found out i got in. it could have really dumped my day as a rejection, but that was a risk I was willing to take

Interviewed yesterday. We were told to call on Wednesday to find out... :xf:

Hey everyone,

I'm interviewing on Jan 5th, I'm really excited and pretty nervous about it. Any little tidbits of advice from those of you who ahve already got in?

Read my post on interview questions I posted a couple of pages back. Also be really informed about PBL.

I've done a couple mock interviews using those as the base, I've been meaning to thank you for that post 😉 I'm also quite familiar with PBL, so I guess I'm in good shape, just a little anxious about the whole ordeal.

I got accepted to LECOM, They sent out the letter on thursday, I just checked my mail today. I am going to be a doctor !!! FYI : I interviewed on dec 6th. I had 28 MCAT and 3.6 GPA.

are you from florida?? i was the asian guy from new york. i didn't get anything in the mail yet. congrats btw

Ya I am from Florida, I think I saw you at the Wingate. Be patient, they sent my letter out on Thursday. So yours should get in sometime this week, best of luck to everyone this cycle !!!

I have been on the alternate list since October and I remember Annette telling us that we would be re-reviewed in December. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this? I am still really interested in this school.

Ah your right, I just got home from Chicago and I got my letter of acceptance too!

I would call Annette. One thing that stood out to me was at the end of the interview Ron Shively said "If you end up on a waitlist and you really want to come to our school, make it known, we want people that want to be here". The worse they could do is tell you that there has been no movement.

hey guys i know most of you are way past this, but i applied a little late. I was wondering how long it took lecom b to send out the secondary after aacomas had received everything and verified you? Any info would be appreciated!

Did you end up getting in somewhere else?
im sure he did lol. you wouldnt withdraw your acceptance if you didnt have another option!!

MLT2MT2DO, are you planning to matriculate to LECOM-Bradenton?

I wouldn't think he would but usually people will say, or they will have posted in another school thread they got accepted, he did neither and was just curious.

More than likely LECOM-B is where I'll be next year. I like another school by just a smidgen more but I'm on the other school's watilist so we'll see.

oh okay. im gonna hold on to my acceptance until i find out if i got into ATSU-SOMA and CCOM. i liked LECOM-B but those other schools seemed more attractive to me. the students at LECOM-B definitely knew their material when they were conducting a PBL session. very impressive! no wonder they have great COMLEX and USMLE pass rates.

Tomorrow's the big day! Anyone else counting down until they open tomorrow?

Hey piper19 and others waiting I applied late too here is my time line:

Nov. 15 --> AACOMAS verified
Nov. 17--> LECOM-B email they recievd primary and a link to secondary
Nov. 17 --> submitted secondary and letters FYI u don't have to submit LORs until interview invite I asked if would help if they had them before and they said I couldn't hurt so I submitted them via interfolio
Dec. 7 --> Portal website said congrats you've been chosen for interview
Dec. 8 --> offical email to schedule interview

I hope this time line brings you some relief!! GOOD LUCK!

The tuition for LECOM-B would be just too good for me to take either of those other schools over LECOM-B (I didn't interview at either though so take that fwiw).

Additionally I agree with you knowing their material, I've told my wife I don't think there is a better school that would prepare me for the boards and work well with the lifestyle of being married. I'm just not really interested in moving around a ton for 3/4 years, and this is the only downfall I can see with this school. I do have to say I've talked to current students and 3/4 years at LECOM-B aren't nearly the nightmare some SDN posts make them out to be, imaging that SDN cynically making something a bigger issue than it is.

At this point my decision is between two schools, either of which I'll be extremely happy at and both of which I'm excited to attend. So I feel I'm in a win-win situation.

Accepted!!!! Any other people get good news from the December 10th interview? I almost dropped the phone my hand started shaking so much when I heard.

i hope to be in your win-win situation sometime in january when i hear back from more schools haha. the most important thing is that no matter where we go, we're gonna become doctors!

It's certainly not a bad schedule during the first two years, especially being married. My wife and I lived in Bradenton for the first 2 years and then moved up to St Pete are for these last two, so it's certainly possible to stay in the area. You aren't going to be big academic hospitals unless you go do outside electives (mostly during 4th year), but I'd say I had pretty good experiences for my clinical years.

Actually just finishing up a sub-I rotation at Shands which is a large academic hospital here in Florida (part of UF) and I think I came in very well prepared and it showed. If you put in the work during years 1 & 2 to do well on the boards (oh, and take at least USMLE step 1, I've already had a few comments about programs noticing that I took it and did well on it, it'll pay off), and then continue reading/studying during clinical years you'll do fine and be prepared to go wherever you want.

Got in to LECOM brandenton, tampa here i come.

Nice....just an FYI. When I left Brandon Hospital today (Brandon,FL 30 minutes east of Tampa/30 minutes north of LECOM) the weather was 70 degrees!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys do they usually have you send letters of recommendation before or after the interview?

Thanks for another positive review for the clinical years. I actually hadn't heard a single bad thing about Bradenton's clinicals until this year (been stalking SDN through most of my premed years) and started to get worried.
Yourself, Altruist, and Digitalnoize have helped put me at ease in regards to 3/4th years despite the expanding class size. Thanks!

This just makes everything harder for me to choose between the different schools!!! All these schools seem really good!!! dammit!!!

Congrats! 👍

I've been waitlisted! I actually thought my interview went pretty well... But oh well...

hey guys, i was wondering if anyone can help me with this. i'm not too familiar with the area, but i was wondering if there are any recommended colleges around. i really like lecom and have already put my deposit down, but i'm kind of having a hard time finding a school for my significant other. from looking online, it seems as though the local colleges are pretty basic (most of them list about 5 majors...someone please correct me if i'm wrong). we are willing to go as far as tampa, or the same kind of distance in any direction (but are somewhat concerned with price). I was just hoping some locals may have a little more insight!

Thanks so much in advance!!
