LMU c/o 2021

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For me, they had each interviewer ask a different "theme" of questions. Like I had one room that was asking about animal welfare vs animal rights and ask if I knew what the one health concept was. Then another room asked about the downer side of Veterinary medicine, like what if you don't get into vet school and if you've delt with euthanasia. The other two rooms asked about leadership and times of adversity and things like that. It's not very strict answer and then question though. They use the questions to start a conflversation that they continue to elaborate on.

Thank you so much 🙂

Has anyone else still not heard anything from LMU? No rejection, no interiew nothing - this happened to me last year too.

I have not heard anything. I have a feeling there is a rejection in my future. I'm currently waitlisted at Iowa State and have pending interviews at UMN (OOS) and Michigan State (IS) so I am mostly hoping for good news from one of them at this point.

I think they are still sending out interview invites through the first week of January. If you haven't heard anything from them by the end of next week, then I would definitely call/email them. Don't give up hope yet!

I am little late, but I got an interview and set it for January 16th! I am so excited but nervous! Congrats to anyone else that got an interview and do not lose hope for those who have not heard anything yet!

Hey Guys! Spoke with admissions commity today, still sending out more interview invites over the next two weeks so don't loose hope yet! He hopes they will be sending them out soon 🙂
aaah thank you! I'm so nervous

Yay!Oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please.

I just got an invite for an interview! LMU is my number one school so I honestly couldn't be more excited. I was wondering if anyone who already had an interview could give me any advice. I'm a naturally anxious person so I'm trying to mentally prepare for the interview questions, how the day is going to go, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The interview was very relaxed! You'll arrive on campus and they begin with a presentation about the school and then you're split in to two groups, the first group begins with interviews and the second group does a campus tour and then you'll switch. The actual interview itself was very relaxed, you spend 8 minutes with each individual interviewer that you're assigned to and they each have their own set of questions to ask. At least one of your interviewers will ask if you have any questions, so definitely be prepared with a question or two that you want to ask about the school because it shows your interest and knowledge about their program. If you want anymore advice or have any other questions, feel free to pm me! Good luck 🙂

To all of those that interviewed earlier in the year (or technically last year) and still didn't hear anything, don't give up. Last year I interviewed there in the middle of October. I didn't hear anything from them until April. Around Christmas time I received a random Christmas card and thought that maybe they mixed up my contact information. I got the phone call on April 12th and I had until April 15th to pay them for a spot.

Holy cow! Speaking of down payments....what is the amount needed to hold your seat?

Wondering if anyone can speak to the housing for students at LMU (pet-friendly preferably 🙂), and what the options are?

They have on campus housing that is pet-friendly. They are set up like an apartment where everyone has there own room, but you share a living room/kitchen. I've heard they are very nice. I believe you are allowed one pet- unless you have a roommate that doesn't have a pet(then you can have 2). They are also a few restrictions on the pets where they have to meet certain behavioral requirements and be up to date on things...(ie no young puppies). But for the most part I don't think anyone has had a lot of trouble with getting there pets ok'd. Another plus is that they are almost halfway b/w campuses. (around 10 mins to each).

With that said, most people live off campus- it's much cheaper and you can have multiple pets. Some people have even found houses where they can keep their horse in the back yard. Downside to this is that it is up to you to find a roommate (most people pick another cvm or dcom student), you'll have more bills to keep track of, and it seems like finding housing in the middle of the two campuses is harder. A lot of housing options in Middlesboro, but it is 20 mins away from the farm. Classes for first years is at the farm almost everyday. Some people also live closer to ewing, but then they have to drive the 20 mins to MANS or longer to go to Walmart. (no traffic for the commutes tho 🙂 ). Also when looking at housing- some areas out by ewing don't have super great internet--people sit on a waiting list for months to get it set up. And also look at driveways- a couple of houses have such terrible driveways UPS/fedex won't deliver to them. Luckily mine is not that bad, but it is a down hill curve which sucked today as it was covered in snow. I could see the road down below looking all passable, but my driveway not so much. Anyway, they tend to post a lot of housing ads on the lmu cvm and dcom facebook pages.

This is incredibly insightful thank you! In regards to off-campus housing, is there a preferred website or source that students look to? Ive perused Trulia and Zillow, but the options are very scarce.

I can also add some insight because I am currently living on campus in the pet friendly building. It's actually closer to Harrogate TN (main campus) than Ewing VA (5 min/15 min) and for mailing purposes we are considered in the Cumberland Gap. Housing is nice. I calculated it to be around $700 per month. All our bills (water, electricity, heating/cooling, cable, internet, lawn care, garbage anything else you can think of?) are in this $700. The plus side is we didn't have to buy any furniture. The apartment came with a table and chairs for the dinning room and a couch with a chair to go with it. The kitchen has your basic appliances (microwave, refrigerate, stove, dishwasher). Each bedroom came with a bed, a desk, chair, nightstand and dresser. Each bedroom is also attached to your own private bathroom and walk-in closet (yes, a legit walk in closet). You can even hook up a TV in your room with your included cable. The bathroom has a tub/shower combination, toilet and a sink with lots of counter space and a huge mirror. It is also has excellent lighting for those of you that put sometime into your makeup. The apartment itself also has it's own washer and dryer which you share with your roommates.

Living on campus also comes with bonuses such as a pool during the summer months, a few grills to cook on, a 24 hr gym only available to residents, security and a fenced in area for pets. There is also a bar here that has fun nights with the residents. One thing that I really like is the fact that I can just email housing about something and they come and take care of it. One of the things I'm not a fan about is my neighbors and that the walls are kind of thin so you can hear everything but you would probably get that at any apartment complex.

There is a website that is used but I'm not sure how up-to-date it is. I would check around April/May when people begin to move out and graduate. Also Heartland Real Estate has some stuff avalible to rent.
Here's the website

I am confused... maybe someone on here can help me. LMU is my first choice for vet shool and this is my second year applying to this school. When I went to go visit the school before my first time applying, I was told that I was guaranteed an interview based on being above their GPA requirements (I believe she said anyone who had a GPA of over 3.0 was guaranteed an interview). I did receive an interview my first time applying (I interviewed Dec 14), but was placed on the wait list and didn't end up getting in. I reapplied to LMU this past year, and my GPA more or less stayed the same as I graduated undergrad last May. I also retook a biochem class, and now I work as a full time vet tech. I feel I have only improved as an applicant, but haven't even heard from them for an interview this year! Does anyone know if they changed that rule about being guaranteed an interview? I think I read on here that this is the last week they are sending out interviews?

For those of you looking into housing, I am a second year and I would recommend finding a house or apartment to rent if you want to save money! The campus housing is great, but it is rather pricey in my opinion (and I am all about reducing that debt load). My roommates and I currently pay 250 for rent and about 150 in utilities, so altogether $400. We got lucky and found a house that came with a lot of furniture, so those options are out there! Just do you research and look into the DCOM classified page that was recently shared in the past few posts!

Yeah, numerous places, including my in-state, UC Davis, and Cornell. So excited!
OMG I just put two and two together, that we've already had this convo on MSU's thread! 🙂 So sorry! Super happy for you!

No worries! I didn't remember! I've been having so many conversations and have had so many interviews that I'm happy for the extra congrats 🙂. Thank you. I'm so excited. I've worked so hard to get here and I finally am going to go to veterinary school (first-time applicant)!

How soon would you guys recommend looking for and then committing to housing?

2018 CVM and 2019 DCOM students will be leaving for rotations in May/June, so landlords usually start posting about openings in March/April. I would commit to housing by July just to be safe, but we've had people be pulled off the wait list in August (even after classes have started if someone got accepted to their in-state and drop out) and not have any problems finding housing.

I am in the same boat. I took a year off from applying to retake classes after interviewing and being rejected. I have also worked as a vet tech now since last year and have volunteered at a zoo. I was really hoping to receive atleast an interview but have heard nothing 🤔

Same.

In regards to the weather, how will the conditions be for driving? I'll be driving up from Charlotte, NC the night before my interview (02/03) and most likely staying at the hotel in Middlesboro, KY. Any input would be great!

Did you apply to other places and hear back anything?

Has anybody from the 21/22 November interview group heard anything?

The major highways are always scraped and salted, so you should be fine.

Does anyone know how many people LMU is interviewing this year?

Will no longer be attending my interview due to a family emergency.

Good luck to all those who have interviews at LMU this cycle!

hey guys random question, I'm interviewing on February 6, super bowl is the day before, can any current students point me in a direction of a good place to watch the game the night before? Die hard football fan and don't want to be sitting alone in my hotel room all night watching haha.

Having been there a couple of times now I can tell you there is really not much there or in Middlesboro. Your best bet might be to stay in Knoxville if you really want to watch the game in a sporting environment. The drive is minimum of an hour from Knoxville to the interview location.
