So I had a meeting with Dr. Meiring today and he told me he just found out that all the SC contract spots have been committed to. He said 13 out of 33 OOS have committed and that half of the alternates have contacted them declining. He also said it could take up until mid-May to find out about an OOS spot :(

He said he'll know more next week about the OOS list.
Do you know if he said that 13/33 is typical for the amount of people committed or if its normally higher or lower? Thanks! This week has me so nervous as april 15th is approaching

He didn't say whether it was typical or not so I'm not sure. I'm nervous too! I'll probably call at the end of the week and see if there has been any progress but he said one alternate was notified that he got a spot the week before classes started so don't lose hope if you don't hear around April 15th!

Hey, curious undergrad here looking to apply in a couple of years. For those who were accepted, what is your deadline to commit? I need to make sure I have time to establish residency before I the deadline!

Become a resident of Mississippi before VMCAS application cycle for the class you are applying to. Certain states require you to be resident for at least a year, plus register to vote, etc.

I'm working on it so far as proof of residency and changing my driver's license, but the issue is mainly with my age. They don't consider you to be an adult until 21, and you must have resided 12 months in the state after your 21st birthday. What I'm trying to do is make sure that the deadline to commit is after my 22nd birthday.

While I'm working on becoming a resident right now, before the VMCAS app, I think I have a good chance of getting in if I apply either as IS or OOS because of how my academics and experience are going so far -- and I don't mean to sound smug or anything! I just want to say that that's less of a concern than making sure I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for OOS tuition.

Also for reference, IHL/MSU's "residency" definitions are here starting on page 99:

You have to be a resident before submitting your VMCAS on September 15th (new deadline). Otherwise, you are considered an OOS.

This is a far shot to ask in this thread I guess, but do you know if it's possible to petition to pay in-state tuition even if I applied as an OOS student?

No. When you sign the contract as an OOS, you agree to be OOS for 4 years.

Does anyone know/remember how many people applied this cycle and how many people were offered interviews?

They said something like 900 applied and 250(?) were interviewed.

Okay, thanks.

I emailed the admissions office/Dr. Meiring and he said that their determination of residency during applications is relative to the date that classes start in July and not your application submission date. Thus, it's alright if you aren't fully considered a resident at your time of application as long as you have evidence that you intend to be a resident before classes start. So the issue is 100% clarified for me and any future confused applicants!

Spoke with Missy at 11:45 today. Gave me my actually number for the wait list. Also said that as of now the OOS waitlist has not moved.

When she says the wait list has not moved does she mean that no one has been called off? Sunkistkitty was told my Dr. Meiring that over half the people have taken themselves off the waitlist. Do you think the number she gave you was updated from that?

I just called and spoke with Hailey. She said she couldn't give me my number yet. But left my name and number if any updates happen.

Honestly, I think they always weren't going to tell us anything until tomorrow. One of the surgeons I work with was on the adcom at UF and she said that, at least at UF, they tell people they might get called off before the deadline but they usually don't. Plus every MSU SD forum for the last few years doesn't show people getting called until at least the 16th.

I think she meant 13 out of 33 committed to MSU-CVM not withdrew application. For some its tougher to decide than others, and waited until the last minute to decide.

Yeah Dr. Meiring said that half of the alternates had declined an alternate spot and 13/33 of the offered spots have been committed to.

It makes me wonder how many are on the alternate list then. 100? 200? If half have already declined their spot then it seems very likely for a lot of people to be called off the list.

1000? 2000? who knows! :p I literally have no idea how many people they put on the list. I know they have only 8 alternates for the SC list.

haha you're scaring me with those numbers! :nailbiting: Maybe we will all hear from Missy tomorrow though! :)

I just declined my OOS spot for the class of 2019. Good luck to everyone on the wait list!!!

So I just found out that I've moved up 9 spots in the alternate list as of yesterday. The list is moving super fast.

Is she calling people to let them know their spot?

So I just talked to Missy. She told me I'm #43 and that oftentimes they go past 43 but they may not know until even June.

Thats awesome! Hopefully we will both be called off but waiting till June sounds awful especially since classes start in late June! I plan on calling her weekly to see how much I have moved.

Yeah definitely, I think we both have a decent chance!! The waiting is pretty much unending.

I called about 2 hours ago and Hailey said that they haven't sorted through all the decisions yet but they hope to be done by early next week, so hopefully the waitlist will move even more in the next week or so.

Thanks everyone for telling us all the information you find out! :) It's very helpful especially in calming my nerves!

Anyone been admitted off the list? I'm in the top 20 and haven't heard.

they have been swamped with graduation stuff such as preparations and paperwork. I'm in, but still waiting on enrollment package. Just believe and live MSU-CVM in your mind every day, until you get the call. It will happen if you believe in it hard enough. Eliminate doubt from your mindset

I'm thinking positively every day. Im also terrified/excited about moving out of Florida for the first time in my life. It should be one hell of an adventure.

Has anyone heard anything today? I would call again, but I'm worried they now recognize my phone number and I'm not ready to be that level of crazy.

Dr. Meiring has decided to visit to my college and I have a meeting with him tomorrow. If anyone has any questions you would like me to ask please let me know! Also has anyone heard/called in today to check on the wait list movement?

I called Thursday and Hailey said they were still going through it and they hoped to know by "this week."

I really would just like to know if they have called anyone off the list and if not, when he expects they might start.

Just kidding! I just got the call OOS!!!!

86 classed up as of today. I think this is it. Join our Facebook page conwayKitty13
How do you know that 86 people are classed up? Thought they would at least go through a few weeks of calling alternates. Just curious!

If I were to guess I would think some of those people are upperclassman .....

Talked to Dr. Meiring and he said the class is already full. This doesn't mean people still won't be called off though. Sometimes people decide to decline after being accepted because of costs associated with OOS school or personal reasons.

Sorry, I'm confused. All the spots have been taken technically?

The class has been filled, meaning all spots are taken for class of 2019. A spot may open up for a wait listed person if one current student decides to back out for personal reasons before June 25.

Okay. Well it's seems highly highly unlikely I'll be getting in this year. Congratulations to those that did and good luck to everyone on the alternate list. Maybe I'll see you next year. Thanks guys.

Yes sorry for the confusion. He said that all 85 spots have been accounted for. He said it was very unusual for the class to fill up so quickly and they barely had to pull any people from the list. He did say that occasionally someone might drop out before classes actually start and then someone else would be pulled from the waitlist.
