New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

Do you guys think it is a bad sign if I interviewed here and never got that email about the Arkansas campus?
I also got accepted and didn't get an email. But that scares me that they are opening another campus. They already have one of the biggest medical schools in the country. Looks like they are trying to make some serious $$$$$$

So I was complete here early December and I was wondering if I stand any chance this late in the cycle? Colorado Resident, 3.59cGPA, 3.35sGPA, 504 MCAT (27.5 on old scale)

I am wondering too if I stand a chance. In state, 3.71cGPA, 3.50sGPA, 499 MCAT (47th percentile). If anyone has any insight, that'd be great! Thanks.

Interviewed on 12/2 and received the acceptance letter yesterday. Stoked!!

The class size for this school has really made me rethink attending an interview here. Are there ant students that can speak for the positives on the large class size?

Congrats!! Do you mind sharing your stats/experience?

Also when was your letter dated? Thanks!
The letter was dated December 8th. Lizzy M in the 65-67 range. Tons of research experience, 60+ hours shadowing, and letter from an MD.

Is there anyway to check the status of your application? Like via a portal or something? Having trouble finding one and not sure if it exists

4 months of wait today....really hoping for this wait to be over soon so I can have my sanity back. Let us early interviewees hope to hear back this week so we can enjoy the holidays!

If I recall from previous posts they did say we would definitely hear back before Christmas right?

are people who interviewed on 9/29 still waiting to hear back? I'm starting to worry that my letter got lost in the mail...

I think there's a good amount of people from Sept. overall they still haven't gotten back to

Call them, they'll let you know if your letter was sent if you're worried about it being lost in the mail.

Are they still looking up files? I think someone posted they aren't and are giving generic responses

They only want grade updates.
Quote from interview presentation
"If you do research that's cool, if you win the Nobel prize that's awesome well make you a trophy for you to display, but unless you have any significant coursework that you have made up, done from new, or new mcat or exam scores then please don't send anything in"

Anyone else just get an interview for the arkansas campus? It's weird considering I never applied to that campus.

I also got an interview for the Arkansas Campus and never applied to it specifically, nor do I really have a burning desire to attend in that location. However, I don't want to hurt my chances at going to the campus in NY by not accepting this interview invite. Not sure what to do.

I almost think that if they gave us the II for the Arkansas campus, then we won't be getting one for the NY campus. I could be completely wrong (I hope I am haha). I will most likely not be accepting the II because I have no desire to attend a brand new school and already have other acceptances.

I doubt they'll frown on you for declining an II to a new campus.

anyone have success with getting an email response? If so, what address did you use?

Been complete for 3 months, IS, 513/3.6, and no word from them. No Arkansas email either! I've been cast aside I suppose. Oh NYIT...

Damn, those are solid stats! I got an II to the Arkansas site (which I am declining), and my stats are much lower than yours. Maybe they have you as a potential II at the main campus early next year.

I hate to stir the pot, but has anyone who interviewed received a [EDIT: Waitlist] letter? This is all speculation but based on this thread, it seems like they're sending out acceptances as they come along and are going to send one massive wave of rejections right before break starts.

None yet, but I'm hoping I'm not the first one to post about being wait listed or rejected here. Been waiting quite a while so I don't know what to think about my personal chances.

I don't think they send rejection letters. And I don't think they ever reject someone after an interview. I think worst case is wait list. I've never seen anyone in recent years post a rejection after an interview.. People are usually either silently rejected with no interview, or interviewed, possibly waitlisted, and then if no spots open up, silently rejected.

You're right, I edited my post. But regardless, usually people post their rejections/waitlists much more frequently than we've seen in this thread.

question for those accepted- is the deposit able to be paid by credit card? or do you need to mail in a check/money order? And what's the timeframe they give you to pay it?

thanks! 🙂

You have to mail check/money order (ugh). They gave me till January 8th.

Ah thanks, When were you first offered an acceptance?

I guess what I'm asking is the time they give you like 30 days? 60 days? Etc

Offered the acceptance Mid-November, so about 60 days. But I don't think they would give everybody 2 months to make the deposit, it may just be because I interviewed and was accepted fairly early (could be wrong though).

If I hear good news from another school that I interviewed, I'm withdrawing my acceptance here and I hope it goes to one of you 🙂

apparently only 1/3 of the class is full so far. so even though NYCOM did start early this year compared to the last half decade in regards to starting interviews. They are still going to stay true to their ritual of doing the bulk of their interviews later in the cycle.
I know this because I called and asked for the status of my background check etc.... and also asked how much of the class was full.
so at least another 150 acceptances are gonna be given out here if not more, since schools like to over accept as a contingency plan for people who decline offers.

Oh man that's like the biggest relief I heard today. After seeing how UNE filled their entire class already apparently I was expecting maybe nyit did the same. I guess they really are just delayed with their reviews.

I expect they will give more acceptences than the remaining 2/3 because I'm sure tons of people are gonna not go there. From what I heard they send 1.5 times the amount of seats they have.

Anyone hear back from November 5th interview date? I called earlier this week and they said it's still under review. The wait is agonizing.
