New York COM (NYIT-COM) Discussion Thread 2015 - 2016

yeah they give scholarships but based on your parents income.
The most they give is about 7 grand, and it's also dependant on your mcat score.
The lowest family income coupled with the highest mcat score, gets you the closest to that seven thousand dollars they will knock of your tuition.
Hope that helps 😀

For anyone that gave their deposit did you receive confirmation when it was received? If so, how long did it take?

Still no decisions, sigh. Why do I get the feeling that it'll be a couple more months wait before I hear back anything.... 😕

@wednesday0012 I feel for you. I am basically in the same situation as a September interviewee. Who knows? Maybe we're not at the top of their priority list. Or maybe they are taking the time to compose our waitlist/rejection letters. We just have to move on for now.

I like to think theyre taking their time. I haven't seen much acceptences posted here recently. They might be compiling all at once and sending it out. I do hope they keep to their promise of being done by the holidays. Doesn't look like it thus far though.

I'm also assuming that they're busy with the Arkansas campus, totally forgot that was happening until a few people mentioned getting IIs on this thread to there

Maybe, it would make sense. I don't understand why they wanna keep so many early interviewees waiting around. It's a complete douche move. Even if I were to be rejected I'd like to just know about it rather than be in the dark.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I called today and the person on the phone said that there was still a chance I could hear before the holidays but she didnt sound very optimistic. So I definitely dont think it is a guarantee to hear back before then. I have to be honest I am not optimistic about my chances if it is taking this long.

She said there's possibility we won't hear back by the holidays? I'm hoping to hear back by after new years at least. It's highly unprofessional for a school to keep students in the dark for this long. And it seems like it's a large number of students too.

Well she was talking about my file specifically and I interviewed in November. I actually dont remember her exact words but it was something along the lines of them still reviewing some applications(I think she may have said it was a small amount of applications they were looking over, sorry Im not sure) that they hope to send word on by the holidays. Then she looked up my file and said it was still under review and that I might hear back by the holidays. So while there is still a chance anyone still waiting might hear by Christmas I dont think it is a guarantee so be prepared for the worst.

To anyone who interviewed: did they mention the Arkansas campus at your interview??

I put myself at a significant disadvantage by interviewing at this school so early. It's now been over three months since my interview with no news. I have asked several people in my interview group and they all have heard nothing. It's unacceptable that this school is accepting people who interviewed in November and December while the people who interviewed months ago are still in the dark. Now there are less seats/ less of a chance of being accepted for people in my boat

I don't believe that when you interviewed has any influence on the hierarchy of decisions. I interviewed on October 1st or October 2nd and I kept in touch with a good deal of people I interviewed with, out of the seven contacts I kept only two others heard back, everyone else is still in the air. They must have some kind of other system, but make the most out of your time and interview at as many schools as you can, do not close any doors, and explore any school you can.

Well at least this is encouraging for those of us still waiting. Before this I was under the impression that most people heard back within the 4 to 6 week timeframe(or earlier).

Some people who interviewed received an acceptance within a week.

I honestly think they're having some internal issues going on, because there can't be thus many people waiting and they havent gotten to it yet. Because when I called they did tell me they're having issues with my interview date. Otherwise they don't keep this many people waiting around for so long normally.

I feel as though it's most likely the interviewers haven't met with the admission committee maybe? It's ok though, it's just my future on the line lol

That might be it. I know a couple people who met with my interviewer havent heard back yet . I don't know about the rest because I haven't kept in touch with everyone, but the two I did keep in touch with didn't hear back yet either.

Honestly I doubt it has to do with who interviewed you(except for maybe the people who interviewed in september). I honestly think the school is probably using some system of assigning scores/rank to each applicant and sending acceptances based on that, regardless of when you interviewed. Im guessing they are sending acceptances to the people they know for sure they want regardless of who else comes along and are holding on to everyone else to compare them with people who apply later.

They seem to be rolling out acceptances to high stat students almost immediately. n=3.

I think several people mentioned they didn't have the highest stats and got acceptances.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to be honest, which is what makes me think they're having internal problems

People with the same and lower stats than me have been accepted. People with less experienced have as well, I really doubt stats have anything to do with it. I asked them if they haven't reviewed me cause of my stats and they assured me stats didn't have anything to do with it.

i really think that they are held up because of the arkansas campus and getting that school rolling and that has set them back since the admissions committee in the NY one are the same for arkansas from what i can see. I feel they just put NY on hold for now which is messed up to us

im not even attending this school lol but still waiting on a decision lol, but i feel its so unprofessional of a school to do that lol, like make you interview in september and make you wait more than 3 months, its unacceptable lol. Says a lot about the school!

for the people who interviewed september/october but haven't heard back, did you send a Letter of Intent?

From looking at recent years threads, it doesn't look like anyone has had this long of a wait before.. Or this many people waiting to hear back. Which makes it seem like there is definitely something going on with admissions that is causing the process to take so long. I can't see all of us waiting from September on being waitlisted.

Also I called and they said they are still making a few more decisions, and that letters will likely be sent and received after January 1st...

Anyone have any other info?

Did they say if it was possible that any letters would be received between now and Christmas?

No they didn't say. Just basically that the expected time frame to hear back was after the first of January. They didn't even look up my file, so this must be the case for everyone who hasn't heard back yet. Unless letters have already been sent and the woman I spoke to was wrong..

Might be my optimism speaking, but I really hope theyre delayed because they're sending out everyone's letters and we don't have to wait around too long.

Also thinking maybe they are waiting to send everyone's at the same time so that we all get the same amount of time to decide and make a deposit.

Others who heard back have until January to decide...maybe they won't give us that long so they're sending them all out at once.

I was like I'm writing u a hand written letter that means accept me please

Lollllllllllllllll

Honestly you should follow up by sending them a nice argyle sweater and some khaki pants.
I think that might do the trick!

P.s.
Just make sure that you get the size right or admissions might be insulted!
