***The Official Midwestern-Illinois Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

hey guys, I just received an interview here today!! if anyone could give any tips, that would be amazing!! 🙂

Hello! I received an interview here and wanted to ask how I should best prepare for it? Should I practice the typical "why dentistry", "strengths/weaknesses", "how I would fit into the school" questions? Some have said on the thread that they ask questions to get to know your personality but what kind of questions would those be??

You have two faculty members interviewing you at the same time (very kind folks). They have a list of questions in front of them and they essentially take turns asking a question. While you are answering, they are typing away on their laptops. After one question is done, they move onto the next one - it was definitely not conversational. I think I was asked 6-7 questions? Without giving too much away, definitely be able to explain why they should choose you, any hardships you had to overcome, etc. And I kid you not - the interview feedback page (link in the first post of this thread) will be your best friend. GOOD LUCK!!!

Thank you SO much, I'll be sure to go read the interview feedback!! Also, did you find eating lunch at the school awkward at all? And how much time did you spend outside at your interview? I don't really want to bring a big winter coat that would cover my interview attire but if we do a lot of walking outside I might just have to!

How late does Midwestern interview? I haven't heard anything from them but I emailed them recently with my academic update. Hoping there's still a chance!

You're welcome! Lunch was spent with two D2 students, and the interviewees split up into two groups in the dining area (one D2 student per group). I wouldn't say it was extremely awkward, but if questions aren't being asked then it does make for a rather awkward time since you'll be eating in silence lol. There is a fair amount of walking around campus - it is mainly indoors but you will be outdoors for a bit when jumping from building to building. They told us that we were welcome to wear our coat during the tour, so I'm sure covering your attire isn't a big deal especially since you can take it off before your actual interview.

Does anyone know anything about scholarships for this school? How do we know if we received anything? I was notified by email but have not received the welcome email yet or the official paper acceptance in the mail. I am able to access the online portal and canvas/email all that

Incoming D1s don’t get scholarships as far as I know. Once your a student you can apply for scholarships for D2-4 years though

Definitely bring your coat if you’re interviewing this week, the weather will not be pleasant with rain/ possible snow on Wednesday and snow Friday!

Hi! I just got an interview invite today and I am out of state. I am just curious if anyone knows what is the percentage of acceptance for out of state students? I know someone mentioned 80% but I feel like that is too high? It is not listed or anything on their website.

Thank you!

70-80% is definitely accurate. Since MWU IL is a very expensive private school, most qualified candidates typically opt for their cheaper in-state school anyway so MWU & most private schools usually rely on out-of-state candidates to accept their offers. If you paid for the ADEA dental school explorer then it tells you all this stuff. I’ve attached a screenshot of the IS & OOS applicants from D2018 cohort

I agree with your statement. Recently visited the school and spoke with admissions and they confirmed what you said. Most IL residents choose the other in-state schools is exactly what they told me. Their current D1 are over 80% OOS, they showed me a data sheet with that info

Has anyone received an interview invite recently? Or would anyone happen to know when the next interview invites would be sent out?

Do pre-December interviewees ever hear back if waitlisted? It looks like a bunch of people that get waitlisted from post-December are the only ones to hear back :/

I had my interview Oct 31st and was waitlisted Dec 3rd!

Has anyone received an interview and was verified around August 1st?

Is there any chance that I hear back with an interview if I applied June 4th? cGPA: 3.39 sGPA: 2.99 (included both of my ochem 1 grades and not just the second) DAT AA: 22 TS: 23 PAT: 22... Thanks!

hey did you ever year back from them?

I interviewed last week and just got an email that I was placed on the alternate list 🙁 anyone else? Has anyone been accepted off the alternate list yet post December???

did anyone receive an interview invite this week? and if anyone received one in January, can you please share what day of the week and what time of the day? Seems like most go out in the middle of the night lol

I received an invite on 1/14 in the afternoon, and it is for 1/30.

Does anyone know how the alternate list works here? It said in my email that it was unranked. Does that mean that my placement on it is in order of when I interviewed? They also said they want me to continue to send updates that will make my app competitive - wouldn’t that imply that it is ranked? ‍♀️

I don’t think they do it in rounds, last cycle I interviewed mid January and got a call the next day but I have friends who also interviewed in January/ February and didn’t get accepted for weeks. I don’t think there’s really a distinct pattern they follow, it seems pretty random

While your friends who were waiting that didn't get accepted for weeks placed on the alternate list? It seems like many heard right away...how many get admission from the alternate list with post December interview?

did you anything to show your interest? bc my stats are the same as ur. Would appreciate ur help.
Hey I also have similar stats and did my interview last week! I did not do anything extra to get the interview but this is also my second time applying so that might be one of the reasons they invited me this time? I would suggest writing a letter of interest because I know a few people from my interview did that and heard back from this school and other schools!
I hope that helps 🙂

do you know how soon the others received the invite after sending the letter? I sent one three weeks ago but still nothing. Applied in June, have avg DAT scores but 3.9 GPA, received other acceptances but nothing from this school. Really losing hope at this point 🙁

Same lol I sent one in a while ago, above average stats, interview went well too ( or so I thought). Im loosing hope at this point too

Got put on the alternate list :/
Interviewed 01/22 and got an email today. Looking at the forum last year, it does not look like many people got out of the waitlist, if anything, it was people who got waitlisted in December.
I am still hoping but dang 🙁

lol im still waiting for an interview even tho my stats are above average and this is my second time applying

Hello ! for those who interviewed here already, do they timed your answers ? or is it more conversational? Please let me know and any advice would be appreciated 🙂
Hey! They definitely do not time your answers. The two people basically asks you different questions from a list of questions they are given. And some people would say it is conversational but it really is not. They only occasionally reply back to your answer. It is definitely not a stressful interview though so just prepare a little and then relax! They didn't ask me "tell me about yourself" but they asked questions that could help them understand who I am... if that makes sense. Like examples that happened in my life, etc. 30 minute interview with about 5-6 questions.
I hope that helped!
Good Luck 🙂

hi, the interview is 2 on 1 and its more question & answer, not quite conversational. It's no longer an MMI style interview like it was 2 years ago. They do not time your answers. but if you ramble too long they kinda transition you to the next question lol. check out the mwu-il interview feedback in a previous post, it was pretty helpful. i didn't get any ethics questions like people previously mentioned, just your basic interview questions.
