I can join in a little while (an hour?).
In terms of suggestions, my friend just recommend pen15 on Hulu. It’s about 7th graders in 2000 and she said it’s really good

So basically everything in the state is closed today because of the ~bomb cyclone~. Lots of schools made their closure announcements as early as yesterday evening, which never happens. My school sent a message this morning that campus was still open. Less than an hour later they changed their mind lol.

Now I'm watching the news scroll all the schools that are closed and I feel like it might be easier to say what's still open, if any.

eek!! i'm sorry! my sister is stuck in it too!

I have to ask... did y'all know it was coming? because now she's freaking out because she doesn't have any food in her apartment. and if it was sudden I don't want to judge her. OTOH, if she had warning that this was coming, i'm def judging that she didn't go stock up on food.

They’re calling it a “bomb cyclone” here in OK because approaching perfect tornado conditions this afternoon with wind speeds in the 50’s

It's been in the forecast for a few days now at least, but I knew about it because I get all of my weather info from NOAA and they post bulletins and updates about these as soon as they're in the forecast. If she doesn't check the weather regularly (lots of people don't unless it looks bad out) or watch her local news station I think it's understandable to have missed it, especially since this blizzard was coming after a stretch of pretty nice weather.

Not true at all. I'm still human and going through a lot the last several years, and social isolation isn't healthy. I do have a newer flagship smartphone with top-rated cameras in DxOMark, but there's no way in hell I would video conference on Rabbit from a smartphone, since it's idiotic to watch TV/movies from such a small screen when full-size displays are available. I'm still using my 2007 laptop as daily driver, and its cam is old, and I've gotten lots of criticism from random strangers on the Internets about its poor quality, so a new standalone webcam is on the purchase list, but it's just not a high priority right now. Mostly because I have a ton of other things that are higher priority (like studying and like finding out how to obtain health care in this country as an adult instead of rotting away for years at a time while health problems get worse and new ones develop). I'm a mess and very self-conscious (it's been 7 years since I've gotten quality sleep) and with the MSK concerns, I haven't had time to take care of myself, especially letting full-time jobs take over my entire life since 2008.

All this to say that your schema about me is a little bit off. While I do believe that webcams and microphones are easily attacked for nefarious purposes and people should be educated about their responsible use, I'm still human and enjoy connecting with others (moreso face-to-face). I'm just not currently willing to spend the money on a new USB webcam when I have other priorities on my plate, and my student loans are like $400/month on $0 income, and I desperately need to see multiple specialists but have no means to do so as an adult.

K, probably a longer response than was necessary, but it's a pet peeve to be misunderstood I guess. :)

Uh so it wasn’t a joke at having no money to afford technology or anything like that. I was just completely joking referencing your perceived increase in concern about privacy and technology in the past- I know you have the thread in the lounge that’s essentially “Stroganoff judges people’s lack of privacy”, and then AFAIK there was a post a month or so ago with Ski with how Google can’t be trusted and **** like that. So yes, I might’ve misunderstood you, but I think you also misread my context/ the joking aspect behind it.
