So I thought I knew where I was going to school, but today I was accepted off of a WL to one of my favorite schools (UVM). I think this decision mostly comes down to two factors: grading format, and cost. But here is my list of pros and cons anyway.

Univeristy of Kentucky

Pros:

Close to family
COA ~$45,000/yr
Only ~2hrs of lecture per day, not mandatory
One class at a time
Cheap cost of living

Cons:

Graded (numerical grade shows up on transcript), not curved
Won't release Step 1 scores, but says at or above national average
Still has not released match list
Lexington is not my favorite city

Univeristy of Vermont

Pros:

True P/F
100% match this year
Love the culture of the school
Burlington is one of my favorite cities, tons of great activities nearby
Close to all of my friends

Cons:

Cost. COA will probably be around $25k more per year than UK
Seemingly busier schedule, since the first two years are condensed into 1.5

Thoughts? Anything I'm missing?

UVM for sure. It's really only 10k different(is my math incorrect?) and I personally think that difference is worth choosing UVM! It has a great match and 10k per year isn't too big of a difference for your happiness. Plus your heart seems to be set on UVM.

25k/year x 4 years = 100k total, not 10k. Seems like a significant difference no?

well 45k - 55k = 10k per year. Unless he's including living expenses in his math. If it's 10k per year, I would choose UVM. If it's 25k per year you have to see if Burlington would be worth it. Personally, If I was in your situation I'd choose UVM since most of the Pros outweighs the cons and I would be far happier living in Burlington than Lexington.

I don't know about UK but the kids I interviewed with at UVM were unlike the people I interviewed at other schools. Far more friendly (but interview day only gives a small sample size so keep that in mind haha). Also the kids attending were ridiculously friendly and relaxed. You have to see if 40k(or 100K) is worth that. Either amount is a lot of money. Congratulations!

Sorry, yeah it's definitely around $100k more total and includes cost of living.

UVM seemed sort of gunner when I interviewed there. That being said, I would choose it since it is beautiful and I would love to attend med school in Burlington

But for $100k I would go to Kentucky.

I like Kentucky, personally I would take Lexington over Burlington

What gave you that feeling?

I was told that haha. Some of my tour guides would point to other tour guides and say they were gunner and I ask at every school how intense/competitive their student body is and at UVM no one seemed to try to sugar coat it and said there was an okay amount of these people. Idk what that says about the tour guide or the people I met, but comments like that don't come out of thin air. Now, that sample size was obviously small and like I said, I would still go to UVM (if the price wasn't 100K more) because I'm pretty sure there are gunners in every school. But I just got more of a blatant example of gunners at UVM than any other school.
