when you log into the tcom website click people tools on the left hand side, then my to do list, on the drop down menu select student center. At the bottom of the page it has admission information and it should say accepted.

i was freaking out about it too earlier, and i finally figured it out.

i'll be at TCOM next year too (just found out in the match)! Can't wait to meet everyone!

Oh wow I didn't even see that page, cool! Thanks!! Plus my mom just called me and read my acceptance letter over the phone. Looks like I'm official!!! Can't wait to meet my new classmates!! 😀

I haven't gotten the letter yet, but it goes to my parent's address and no one's checked the mail today. I've been bugging them to check it like every day haha, I'm still convinced it was a glitch and I'm not accepted. 😉
This is my exact same problem, except that my parents are visiting me right now! So, I don't have the letter and am not able to get to it for a few more days. Thanks, I see now that it does say admitted.

So, the decision date is Feb. 13th? Is there a deposit due at that time?

i got a letter in the mail saying i am on the waitlist.... do you think everyone who did not match got waitlisted

Time2go did say anything about when it needs to be sent back. I called them and they told me I was waitlisted but still have not gotten anything from the mail yet.

I just got my letter today! For those that also received the TCOM acceptance letter, did you guys have a yellow and pink copy of the acceptance form?

My letter says to keep the yellow copy for my records and to return the "other one" but I only have the yellow one. To add to the confusion, the yellow one I have says "retain the pink copy."

What pink copy!?

you dont have to do anything if your on the waitlist is what i got from the letter. if you have a seat in another TX school you will not be able to gain admittance through the waitlist is really the only stand out info i got from it

huh, tcom is accepting women now? thats peculiar.

j/k

I did give them a call and found out I was wait listed too. I think you are right Flu Shot about not many people who were interviewed get rejected. They did not tell me much other than basically the list is ranked but we can not tell you were you are ranked which to me makes no sense but thats how it is. In terms of sending grade updates and activity updates he said you can but your spot and rank are pretty much locked. He did tell me there will be movement most likely starting in April or May. I also had emailed them before I was bold enough to call so if anything new comes up I will let you guys know.

Hey, thanks for the notice. Join the waitlist club; there's a lots of us here 😳

I plan to do my typical call but it seems I already know my answer. From what I can guess, I think that roughly half of those who don't get an offer get waitlisted, so that's about 100? The rejection rate being 1/6 is pretty low, which we might expect too.

I wonder if they can tell us how many people are on the waitlist. Another interesting thing is I am kind of curious how many people accept to be on the waitlist because there maybe some who are waitlisted who got accepted to other Texas schools or accepted out of state offers. Ah, the speculation...

yeah i wish they could tell us more about the waitlist....especially since the OOS list is supposedly so "small". We don't have to call them and confirm that we want to be kept on the waitlist do we???

I am not sure how it works for out of state Megan, but I dont think it would hurt to give them a call. For us in-staters, they mail us a form and we are supposed to send that back to them.

How has OOS movement from the waitlist been in the past few cycles? And how soon does it start?

You got a form to send back to them for the waitlist?

Yeah, the physical letter I got was sent to my parent's house in TX, so I actually don't know everything I got. I'm surprised they didn't tell me there was something to send back for the waitlist. I thought it was just a notice.

My apologies Flu Shot, you are correct nothing needs to be done or sent back. It is just a notice indicating you are on the wait list. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Heh, no worries...I was just freaking out thinking I forgot something

i'm on the waitlist too. i called yesterday morning and spoke with Lynn Scott. she basically told me the same thing she told everyone here. she said that there aren't that many people on the waitlist and that since the implementation of the pre-match system, there hasn't been that much movement in the waitlist in the past. she also said they can't tell us our rank on the waitlist because they don't want someone to maybe feel the burn of being ranked right below the cut off line (oddly specific reason). so that's that. seems like everyone who went through the match and didn't match with TCOM is sitting on the waitlist. best of luck you all!

I didn't expect much movement on the waitlist either but in reality, there are those who got multiple offers, and still have decisions to make. The waitlist letter said about the possibility of those who have a seat somewhere else much drop their position, so I wonder if there is anyone who might be matched at TCOM now but get accepted off of the waitlist at another program, like ibleedorange for example.

It's not much but I'd like to think they're not just humoring everyone on the waitlist. Then again, we really have no idea about it other than anecdotes 🙁

i was waitlisted too..... is there someone we can talk to at TCOM on how we can improve our application for next year?

Hey what did you end up sending??? I think I'm gonna keep the yellow one but I'm not sure.

Also, I found this today! TCOM 2013 group. Join!!

I'm praying for all you waitlisters, there's still a LOT of time and opportunity left!! Good luck to you all!!!! :luck::luck:

When I talked to them and asked about improving the application they basically told me that your rank is set, and it really will not make a difference at this stage of the ballgame. So basically it is a matter of luck, and other people getting offers either out of state or instate. I am a bit confused if she told you that there are not that many people on the waiting list then how can it be possible that everyone who did not match got is on the waiting list. Sounds to be that there maybe more than just a handful of us on the list.

Yeah, it seems they purposely leave it to be ambiguous because they want control over it with less to answer to. I think it's safe for them to say that the rank is set and that they give little info on it. It sucks for us, but it makes a lot of sense on their end.

It's a shame that there's no way to differentiate those that want it more than others, because it sounds like if someone just waits idly with no concern on whether or not they get off the list has the same chance as someone who throws LoIs and updated transcripts at them every 3 months.

When I was guestimating that there was only a handful of people on the waitlist I was referring to the OOS waitlist not the instate. Sorry if I confused you!

Why did you guestimate only a handful on the OOS waitlist? Is this a fact? (Hopefully... ?) haha. And when the heck is it going to start moving..

Yeah I agree with you flu shot. I wish there was away to at least indicate some type of strong interest espicially since I really would love to go there. And I do have several things I would like to add since my interview which was way back in August.

As far as time when the waitlist starts moving both Mike and Lynn said April/May. So another one of those things Nov 15th, then Feb. 1st, now its perhaps April or May 🙂.

well that is what one of the adcoms told me when I found out I was on the waitlist. He said it was so small that they don't give out our ranks. Also, you can only be waitlisted if you've interviewed and from past years stats....there are 30-40 interviews for 15-20 spots (18 this year). So that is how I came up with a handful! Hopefully I am right :xf:

just joined it, can't wait to see you guys at orientation.

You need to keep the pink copy and mail the yellow one.

Also, does anybody know where I can find out info on tuition? I know the total cost probably isn't set in stone yet but I would like to get some estimate. Thanks!

http://www.hsc.unt.edu/departments/financialaid/budgets.htm

here is the cost of attendance for all 4 years for 2008-2009, this changes every year, but its a good estimate.
It has both IS and OOS.

Hey, would anyone happen to know TCOM's school code for financial aid? I'm about to send mine out and I think it would be helpful to send it to them anyway despite my situation.

If I find it in the next hour or so, I'll post it so no one has to go sifting.

EDIT - Err, maybe I should look for like 5 more minutes, because here it is, haha

Anyone in the DO/PhD program? Did you have to take the GREs?

Ok, post got eaten. Not sure what the hell happened, but I'm pissed because it was long.

I don't know about dual degree doctorates, so I assume the requirements are the same as MD/PhD or any other. Would this option be any different?

I just got off the phone with TCOM and got the same response: there is nothing we can do about the waitlist and it is ranked. Movement will begin in May to June, assuming it moves at all.

The admin also spent 15 min basically reading off of the reapplicant page of the website even after telling me not to give up yet. I was a little turned off by this because it assumes that most people who would even care to call have no idea what to do next but eh, that's just me ranting.

Anyway, that's about it. Oh, and make sure you send financial aid to them anyway. It wouldn't hurt from what she says, but again, I wonder why I bothered to call.

EDIT - Ok, it seems SDN doesn't like that I silence all Google data miners and stuff on SDN so I can't post anything at all until I turn it back on. I turn these off using NoScript add on from Firefox, so if your posts are getting deleted, you'll have to allow Google's data gathering tools on SDN. I know it helps maintain SDN but I plan to find a way around this.

Man, he said May-June. Lynn told me April-May. It would be nice if they make up their minds. I really don't see why they can't tell us our spot on the waitinglist or at least give us some type of indication what are chances are. People are trying to make life changing and career decisions and it is very difficult to do so when every time you talk to them you hear a different response. Lol, I guess that was my rant for the day.

Nah, join the club. I was a little ticked when I wrote this up so it might be a little skewed.

I understand why they won't tell us the ranking because it gives them the freedom to do what they want. I know it might not make sense the way I say it, but if I were them, I'd do it the same way. It's inconsiderate for sure, but remember that we're completely at their mercy.

If you get that call 1 week before orientation to join 2013, you'll have to drop everything else if you want that seat. A lot of people are not going to be happy for sure.

That said, I think the clearest thing any of us waitlisters can do is to send them our financial aid package, assuming you're going to submit it. I just finished mine and sent it off. Anything else seems, to them, as more junk to file, which it probably is.

I would not mind at all hearing in April or May, or even early June....but I will be TICKED if I get that call a week before orientation because I will already be moved to a different state to start at a different school. Don't they realize this....especially for OOS'ers? It is gonna be horrible for everyone if we find out that late, and I know if I do that I will be heartbroken because I simply won't be able to attend. I sure hope I don't find out that close to orientation :xf:

I talked with a friend of mine who is at TCOM and he told me one of his best friends got called a week before orientation. So it can happen, and if it happened to me I think I would come back. I got accepted at A.T. Still over in Arizona, but TCOM is so much more established. And I agree with what you said for them it just makes perfect sense.

Yeah, it's kind of a bittersweet blessing to get called up that late and given a seat. Still, I wish there was some way they could differentiate those who would drop everything and screw over all current plans to go to TCOM. I would be one of them but I hope they know like with megan, not everyone can simply do that. Although, I know you would do it megan if they called you that late 🙂

Anyhow, stay strong everyone...it'll be quiet for awhile until people figure things out, especially since most of us are probably going to branch off into the other threads in preparation for anything. I know marv is already stopping by the El Paso thread (not like I'm a stalker or anything 🙂 ) and it makes sense. It's a shame because the AZCOM thread isn't nearly as active or as personal as this one. It would've been great to meet everyone.

On that note, congrats mzebda on SOMA! I know a few classmates who got in and plan to go; it's definitely a different type of school. I think it is a great program but I don't know if it's what I want. However, if I wanted intensive clinical training early on, I would go there for sure.

haha you stalker, you 😛 but yeah i've been hanging with the el paso kids. definitely doesn't beat this comfy thread though. but what can i say...can't let this waiting game consume my life since the reality right now is that i'm not accepted to TCOM and i am accepted to TT-EP. ohhhhhh life...let's keep sipping on that lemonade 😉

Hah, you caught me. Please, I'm allergic to restraining orders 😉

Yeah, I've been facing reality long before the match because it just makes sense to and it seems that if we're to be taken off the waitlist, we're going to have to screw over some plans one way or another.

For example, I already kind of have on campus housing plans and a roommate set up for Fall and as much as I hate to admit it, I wouldn't hesitate to screw him over and head to Ft. Worth. Granted, I'll help him find a new roommate and maybe pay a few months rent. I'm also sure he would understand; I'm actually living with him now

But, yeah, my 'home' thread is a little too administrative. No one really sticks around to chat and usually is just around for business. I don't mind that either and it's perfectly understandable, but I love coming back here and seeing responses from everyone.

Ahhh, if only the match was more kind...I honestly feel a lot of people were disappointed that day, especially in the RoT thread. Still, it's really not over till it's over :xf:

yeah, my "home" thread was actually getting pretty hostile. i tried my best to keep the peace. it was kind of unfortunate 🙁

and what sucks about my situation is that orientation is July 9th and i start that spanish thingy right after so i'm going to be off the market in July. we'll see how things turn out. i already have apartments lined up and what not.

yea a lot of people weren't too happy about match but hey que sera sera (did get that right?)

I agree with that Flushot, and I guess that is what maybe makes it tough is that people like yourself, Megan, and myself really have an interest in going. It is tough because there is really nothing you can do. A friend of mine got waitlisted at A&M and they can submit an additional letter of recommendation and if there grades have gone up or done research they are encouraged to let the admin committee know so they can consider that. But, I guess the fact we have acceptances means that we really can't complain.

Yeah, if I wasn't sitting somewhere, this would be much more harrowing. I know some of the other TX schools has similar options to submit stuff to improve their situation, so it is surprising to see that TCOM will not accept anything supplemental.

By the way, marvo, I'm reading the El Paso thread and it seems pretty civil; is there some drama going on that I can't see? 😕

Yeah, I heard about them having to learn medical spanish due to the proximity to Juarez. I don't know if they want graduates to stay around that area or if it is just for 3rd year rotations (I can imagine rotations 4th year being more free for auditions), but that's what I understood from them.

But, again, huge congrats to marvo; getting into that class of 40 is pretty impressive.

ya congrats to marvo, i would love to go to ttep but was shocked they make you learn spanish

a few people were getting a little edgy about the scholarship situation. wasn't all out warfare but compared to this thread it pretty much was war 😛

and they don't expect you to be fluent in spanish or even to know spanish to attend. they have this "immersion" thing where they throw you out into the community to learn the language, culture, area, etc. and get the conversation side going. then later on they're going to try to get us learning medical spanish. once classes actually begin (beginning of Aug) we're required to do 3-4 hours weekly of that spanish thing outside of classes. this is all with an "i think" at the end so i'm not sure if this is all that accurate.

i think the whole reason why they built the school was because they needed more physicians in EP. they definitely want their graduates to stick around. there's actually a forgiveness loan where the condition is that you stay and serve in EP for a period of time (i highly doubt i'll be doing that). i know that we are free to do 4th year rotations in other places just like most other med schools (i.e. outside of the country, maybe in another city). i'm hoping to get my butt back in houston for that, but we'll see. i just love the eastern half of texas too much 😀 i just hope this whole new school thing won't be a huge flop.

thanks for the congrats! congrats on AZCOM, Flushot! seems like you were keeping that fact pretty hushed this whole time with hints here and there 😉. it may not be TCOM, but it's what'll give you your degree. at least no matter what we're going to be doctors and that's really what matters in the long run. just trying to think positive in this semi-limbo of ours.

just fyi, if you're already accepted at a texas school you can't get accepted to another texas school after june 15th. it sucks for some who really wanted to get off a waitlist but i guess it kinda takes the pressure off too, that way you know for sure where you're going by then. and seriously congrats on el paso, that class of 40 was NOT easy to get into!!! 🙂

oooooooooooh yeah! man i completely forgot about that. thanks, mgirl21! i guess i was having my hopes up a little too high. so correction: i'll be off the market june 15th then. it does take the pressure off and it's nice of the texas schools to do so they don't screw each other over i suppose. but yea, thanks for the reminder 😳

June 15th? I thought it was June 1st, according to TCOM's waitlist letter. Maybe it's an old date and they changed it.

Anyhow, that still means we'll have to boil for a few months, if we even hear anything.

Marvo, haha, yeah, I've been quiet about AZCOM, but mostly because MDapps doesn't seem to put up my acceptances. I got tired of fiddling with it, so it is outdated. I'll probably take it down later.

That said, I'll just leave this here...

We've got to hold on to what we've got
'Cause it doesn't make a difference
If we make it or not
We've got each other and that's a lot
For love - we'll give it a shot

We're half way there
Livin' on a prayer
Take my hand and we'll make it - I swear
Livin' on a prayer

It says no later than June 15th on TMDSAS, maybe TCOM shortened the date to make it easier on themselves??

Did all the accepted get the welcome e-mail today? There's still no info about the preview day that is supposed to be sometime in April...hmm
