WWhere There's a WWhisk, There's a WWay! - Game Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
D1 is a lot like I approach baking things--look in the fridge, then in the pantry, see what ingredients I have; then decide what I am hungry for; wait, do have the stuff to make that? No, well, ok, what can I make out of what I have...do I have a recipe for that? hmm...let me look...nope. ok, what else can I make? O, cool, I can make this!! LOL
:eyebrow:

I'm gunna have to agree with Paws here. I read this as fluff and not helpful at all.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who was a little skeeved out by the hydra. I wasn’t sure if I was right to be skeeved out or if I was just too noobish to understand. It’s two players who will be able to bounce ideas off of each other which could theoretically make for better reads, which is only good if they’re village. Not sure it’s worth the risk to potentially keep a wolf/chaos hydra around.

(I know I’m not the person you directed your question towards, but figured I would address it anyway since you’ll likely ask.) No, because it doesn’t change the reason why hydras are weird to me. So to answer Pip’s question…

what are your exact concerns with the hydra situation? do you have any questions/are confused about the set up? Also, this set up only helps village, as the wolves would already have each other to bounce ideas off of anyway.

Caught up on thread and this is what has stood out to me most. To me it was pretty obvious these were noob questions about game mechanics and to try and potentially throw shade on those that answered the questions rubbed me the wrong way.

lynch VMH

Ummm, fluff post. This looks super noob or sketch.

I kind of agree with this thought, I also thought these were just mentors from last game trying to help. Not sure it's enough of a reason to lynch VMH yet though

I agree with this, I think its awesome to have people answer questions (some of which more than one person may have) on the thread. We could ask in mod pm, but at least if we ask here they are not getting asked the same thing several times. I don't like that vmh jumped on the players who were trying to be helpful. Villager or wolf, getting answers to our questions really helps make sense of the game (duh). So for now I will

lynch vmh

because I agree with Allie that trying to point fingers at those who are being helpful is not cool (for lack of something more articulate).
I disagree because I am always leery of people answering easy questions on thread like that. It always feels too much like people trying to generate goodwill by being overly helpful. There is not as high of a percentage of "freshly minted noobs" playing this game as others have suggested (we do have a fair few, but we have a good number of experienced players, some noobs who have played several games, and a handful of noobs who are playing their first game ever outside of the noob game), and the questions were posed on thread addressed to the mods while the mods were still around to answer the question (and did shortly thereafter). These were not game mechanic questions, they were housekeeping questions.

I am not trying to remove "helpful" people from village or discourage people from asking or answering questions on thread, I am pointing out something I found odd that I have frequently seen wolves do in other games. Just like answering a question isn't inherently wolfy (but can be), questioning the answers given to questions is also not inherently wolfy (but can be).

I agree with this, hydras aren't automatically wolf or village and the normal reason people categorically hate hydras (confusing & difficulty of reading two people at once) is circumvented here by having only one half of the hydra allowed to post on thread

That's exactly the reason I had suggested that only one of us be posting on the thread.

The only thing I remember about killerleaf is that she was the NPC dictionary thing in the DRoP game. Does she always post in this kind of RPG/LARP-y way where her posts are a little bit related to the theme? Sort of like Ceke lite. Or is this new?

Your other half can be reassured that I'm 110% aware Cdo never responded to what I said.

But she also should know I'm a sucker about people who constantly get lynched D1, so I'm not gonna crack an egg there until I get a bit more feelz.
are you referring to the post below? I didn’t think that there was anything to respond to it.
Don't mischaracterize.

First of all; Staypos posted about Finn lynching first.
Second; Mel even pointed out that the idea gave her village cred in speed game and bit him. There's justification and consistency there. It doesnt' mean he isn't a wolf (wolves can be consistent fo sho) but your statement of his post is absurd.

Plus. It is day one. You jump on something and push and watch the response. Otherwise it's a bunch of BS random votes and that's no fun. Don't discourage good play.
Why don't we just kill the hydra, that way we can at least say we killed something that wasn't human (and collect on our witcher contract)?
how is that a good idea? They have just as much of a role as everyone else. “Just because they weren’t human”.

Why should everyone know this by now

Sorry, being a bit egotistical and dramatic here.

The Lounge has a thread called "Crayola227 in the hizz-ouse" where the last couple years I update whenever I am in LA seeing family, if SDN'ers ever want to meet.

In the noob game I mentioned more than once what a good/bad time I've been having here.

In any case, all excuses are off after today's flight. Then I'll be back in my natural environment with my 50" plasma screen and keyboard for SDN'ing. Like a boss.

what issue do you have with the hydra?

No issue, but I needed a third post, and I figured if we're good parochial villagers, I feel like we should have an inherent distrust and hatred of the strange and unknown. This includes, but is not limited to*: wolves, hydras, gorgons, griffins, manticores, dwarves, elves, halflings, gnomes, Sauron the Necromancer, and people who speak with strong accents.

*There is, of course, an unspoken limit against talking vegetables. Those are friends.

Totally agree.

However, I am going to have to go back and re-read some of these quick-to-strategize posts later tonight because it is kinda sketchy. D1 is such a guessing game and jumping onto people for lynching a random person doesn't sit right with me (looking at you, LIS). I thought D1 lynches were a shot in the dark anyways and I don't think that's indicative of a wolf, imo.

Nah the veterans have always maintained you can spot wolves D1, I thought it was crap until I saw it happen more than once, and even caught on to one that early too.

There *are* many crapshoot votes D1, but not all.

😵 so you suggested lynching kcough and I, NOT because you have a problem with us as a hydra, but just because you needed a third strategic post??? how is that at all helpful to the village?

You don't think there was anything in that post that warranted a response ?

I'm a simple villager; strategy is for generals and governance is for nobles. I see a strange biped thing, wave my pitchfork, and give myself over the great mob. Then I get drunk and nap with my cow. It's what I do.

I guess I see your point. I’m not entirely convinced, but for now

Fish Vegetables are friends, not food?

Do your opinions change on this hydra considering only one participant is posting on the thread?

I just don't know how I'm going to rely on a meta read of a hydra, and that's typically how I play.

I don't use punctuation and the like. I always want to keep a spreadsheet or notes, but frequently it comes down to "feelz" with me.

you'll only have to rely on your meta read of one player though since only one of us is posting. which is the exact reason WHY i suggested this type of hydraing. it's less confusing for everyone else because they only have to get a read on one player versus two and they don't have to keep reminding themselves that these two players posting are the same person.

You're aware about half the field has played one or less game and meta analysis will be less than optimal for them?

why does that mean everyone should know you're there? i don't go to the lounge (and neither does my other half) and i'm sure some of the noobs don't venture over there either.

Like I said, I mentioned in the noob game. The fact I mentioned it *again* here (althought prefaced with "everyone should know"), well at that point everyone really should know. Just saying, people asked where I am, and at least 10 people playing this game easily knew that I mentioned being in LA AND flying out today. I think I even mentioned it in the sign up thread for this very game.

Because I'm usually on here 99% of the time, and I know how much people obsess over comings and goings om SDN in WW. So it's been a topic of convo for 3 weeks with many of you. Maybe not all, but then again, if it's mentioned in sign up thread or here no one has an excuse to not be aware.

My point was that even if you didn't know from this thread or sign up it's easily found elsewhere, in a thread that is even basically titled cray's whereabouts.

I'm sorry, what??
Is this someone new playing or a name change? Could easily switch my Lynch vote to you. There has been so much activity on thread for a D1, I really do not feel like the three votes over 36 hours should be challenging.

Im thinking of starting a blog about my life thread (separate from the single horney not crazy thread) where I could report on my wake sleep times, sleep quality, what I have for breakfast, and rate the quality of my BMs.

why should i have to go and search around sdn to figure out where a missing player is? i shouldn't have to and frankly, i am not going to.

dude you literally know who this is. it's karabou's friend. who we told to make an account and play. a week ago.
which i HAVE mentioned.
you're really making me sideeye you, paws.

But also, maybe it literally just went over her head? This comment confused me too because I thought she would have picked up on that but I also can't seem to make the fact she didn't wolfy per se.

Oh. I did not understand that. I knew he said he was making an account but didn't get that this was the account or why Finn was lynching him D1. Makes more sense.

That being said these posts are kind weird lol

You're aware about half the field has played one or less game and meta analysis will be less than optimal for them?

Eh, still more meta analysis of those noobs (and as modlet I could read their training from manators). Even within one thread I would expect there would be more consistency than what I might hope to see from a combo of players I'v never seen combo before. One way we pick out wolves is when they have that "pack mentality" sound.

I don't like hydras, I don't like ties, and without me getting a better analysis of the thread right now, there my vote sits.

As far as this idea that hydras are two heads better than one, the fact is my understanding is that it's frequently done because one if not both players can't fully commit.

frequently done because one if not both players can't fully commit.
not this one. it was done because kcough missed sign ups and so i asked if we could hydra so that she could still play since we're basically the same person irl and so we could just be the same person in this ww and both get to play.
