Dear XX,
Over the course of the last week or two, our admissions program here at B.U. School of Medicine has encountered a "perfect storm" of technology problems. I am writing now to provide an explanation and some reassurance about the following two issues that have come up, almost simultaneously:
1. Boston University has experienced some difficulties with its main web servers. While we have no direct involvement with this area, we do depend on University web services for applicant access to MyApplication. As a result, some applicants have experienced difficulty in logging on to our system. This has been intermittent, but quite annoying for those people who are trying to check their status or complete their applications. If youre one of the people still encountering difficulties, please provide the following information to
[email protected]:
a) Your name & AMCAS ID #
b) The URL of the page you were on before you got the error message
c) The URL of the page you were on when you got the error message
d) An exact copy of the error message you receive; just copy and paste it into your email.
Please note that emails to
[email protected] should relate only to technical problems associated with the login process for MyApplication. Please continue to contact the Office of Admissions via the Message Center (
http://myapplication.bumc.bu.edu/2009/Messaging/Messaging.aspx ) for questions regarding the admissions process. If you have other Admissions questions and you are unable to log in to access the Message Center, call our office at (617) 638-4630.
2. We are, as you may recall, one of 21 medical schools participating in an AMCAS pilot project for delivery of letters of recommendation in a unified electronic format. We have discovered, over the course of the last week or so, that there has been a glitch in the way letters have been transferred from AMCAS to us. As a result, some applicants have found that some letters which AMCAS believed were downloaded to us, have not appeared in our database. Working with our colleagues at AMCAS, we have now identified the problem and we have implemented a solution. Our database is now up to date and complete, and we will ensure that no applicant is harmed by this confusion. This problem was related to the particular way in which we were downloading letters and updating our files with new documents, and it was not unique to B.U. AMCAS is working with several other pilot schools to make sure that any similar problems are identified and corrected immediately.
Applying to medical school is, inevitably, a frustrating process. We deeply regret that technical issues here at B.U. and in our communication with AMCAS, may have added to the stress. Please accept our apology and our reassurance that we will do whatever is necessary to assist you in completing your application and in bringing it to our Committee on Admissions in exactly the form you would hope for. We believe that our letter files are now up to date and complete. If, however, you have any remaining concerns, feel free to get in touch with us via our Message Center (
