To be fair, some schools dont even offer it at all.

And it might not be cheaper if u need to take a taxi to/from the airport cuz all the hotel shuttles are free.

I am mostly kidding. It is still much cheaper than the hotel, and I don't feel like I am inconveniencing the student as much. My last cab ride cost me 25 bucks each way too, so its nice to not have to worry about that.

I was dumbfounded when I read that...I have never heard of such a thing. Maybe we will get some filet mignon and a nice bottle of wine

With that said, it is cheaper than the hotels...although the bed/futon/floor may be uncomfortable. Are you guys going hotel or student host?

definitely host

so this will be my first interview so im sure Ill be stressed the night before no matter what......my question is, would it be better to be in a hotel room by myself (maybe doin some last minute preparations)? Or to be with a student host? Anyone have some pros/cons besides the cost issue which is apparent??
Thanks

For my first int at Case I stayed with a student host and it was a great experience for me. I got to learn more about the school, what to expect for the interview, and had a lot of fun. Plus they will hook you up with a ride in the morning to where you need to go. During the interview I talked a lot about things that I had learned from my hosts.

thanks for the input, I think that I will be going with the student host option

Just to give you guys an insider's point of view concerning the student host charge, if students decide to host, we get a thirty dollar payback for doing so. In regards to the other ten dollars....beats the hell out of me. Seriously though, if you guys are trying to decide between staying at a hotel or with a student host, I'd go with the student host if your schedule can accommodate it. In retrospect, if I had to do it over, I would've have gone with the student host in a heart beat.

I was just joking about the whole situation. I am always happy if any student is willing to let me stay with them. I know this can be an inconvenience for any person trying to study.

It's good hear that at least it is the students who are reaping the benefit from the finances. I am looking forward to the trip either way, it seems like a great school.

I know the application website says that it may take three weeks to associate your letters of recommendation with your application, but does it really take this long? 3 weeks is a pretty long wait.

I can't say specifically how long it took for them to attach my letters. What I can tell you is that I submitted on 8/16 and received an interview invite on 9/17. So, take that for what its worth but it looks like 3 weeks may not be a gross exaggeration.

Yes they do, but they charge you 40 dollars a night. You also get transportation to and from the airport apparently.

This is from their e-mail about it

"The Hosting Program offers an alternative to paying for a hotel room. You will have the opportunity to stay with a current medical student for up to 3 nights. You will receive transportation to and from the airport, bus, or train station as well as to the interview on Friday. One of our goals with the Hosting Program is to provide you with a relaxed atmosphere that will allow you to enter the interview day stress-free. Most importantly, you will see what life is really like as a medical student. The cost is $40 per night, and is payable by checking/savings account or by credit card, both through PayPal."

Where can I sign up for the student hosting program? I have an interview at Creighton on Oct 3rd, but I never got an email about the hosting program...

Does anyone who interviewed at creighton today or recently know the address for their residency match list on the internet? I can't find it anywhere...

Is anyone else having problems accessing the interview scheduling page? I click on the link, but I just get a page cannot be found error.

To anybody considering Creighton:

I had an interview at this school today and all I can say is that it is SEVERELY underrated. I can't speak to the quality of every school in the US, but I can tell you beyond any doubt that this school is what is commonly referred to as the BOMB.

majahops: Why was your experience so positive?

Edit: Wow. Next interview date available is Nov 21st.

In that case, time to express my emotion with a smilie 😡

I'm guessing that the batch of interview dates was taken by the people that had access to them a few days ago. I just got the invite yesterday.

I was also very impressed today! Creighton is a great school

Facilities: Best I have seen so far, particularly with respect to the classrooms, small group rooms, digital content servers, anatomy labs and exercise facilities.

Students/Faculty/Staff: Kind, down-to-earth, social but not "socially elitist", intelligent but not "I need to cure cancer to feel like I've succeeded in life", BALANCED (student-practiced and school-fostered), ethical (religiosity welcomed but by NO MEANS required), compassionate and eager to help others... Just lovely, really. All of them, and I met MANY!

Grading: Requires demonstration of competence in all academic areas, but is NOT competitive. It's anti-competitive. You are encouraged to cooperate and help your classmates. It's not just rhetoric, as it is at many schools... the grading system is primarily pass/fail, with potential to earn "honors", but the grade distribution is not published for students OR other schools/residency programs. If you have a shady, individualistic disposition or world-view, this school is not for you.

Of course, it has short-comings like anything in this world. The first-year curriculum isn't primarily systems-based and I'd prefer a curriculum that was CENTERED around case-based learning... but other than that, this school is awesome... Freaking AWESOME!

If I could describe my impressions of the school in one sentence, it would be: "I'm confident that this is a place where, over four years, the goodness in my heart will be magnified and the selfish, unkind parts of me are sure to atrophy."

I haven't either, not since I received the complete email. I think I might email.

any news on the creighton front? I've been complete since 8/20...haven't heard anything back yet.

It took me quite a while to get any word (~2 months). They're probably very busy.

Crb717: If it's any comfort, it took me about a week or two to get the complete email.

Hmmm...I didn't get a complete email...just that they got my payment. The web page online says my application is "certified" though...
do they have your letters?

has anyone called creighton after they were certified to see if their application had been reviewed/put on hold/thrown into the shredder?
i would love love an interview from this school - it seems like an amazing program !

I was wondering if you have to be from a religious background to apply to this school? Searched and couldn't really find an answer. Or do they give preference to people who have such a background? Just curious since I am interested in applying to this school....thank you!

I made no mention of any religious affiliations or activities at any point in my primary or secondary application and I still received an interview invitation. This leads me to believe that they don't require any religious affiliation.

Good luck

No, you do not have to have any religious affiliations to go to this school, and it is not part of the curriculum, however, they do emphasize values and spirituality... But you don't have to be religious.

Thanks for the help.

do they have your letters?

Yeah, they've had my letters for a month and a half now. I emailed them earlier today as well to see what the deal was. I'll be depressed if I've been waiting all this time when they didn't eve have my completed file yet!

I called Creighton yesterday to ask about my application status. The secretary said that on many Thursday afternoons (maybe from 1:30 to 4:30?) the director of admin has walk-in hours for students to chat about their applications (pre-interview).

I mentioned that I was OOS, and she suggested that I could call in around that time and speak with him.

Hope this helps.

Anyone hear anything from Creighton recently?

ok i always wondered about this. what do they tell you during these sessions? are you supposed to ask questions? do they just comment on your application? i have been complete at creighton for a while now too so i am wondering what is going on with my application ! i guess people have gotten interviews but it seems like its moving kind of slow ?

Since I'm going to be in Omaha for a week (interview at med center, see family), I contacted the admin and asked for an application review. He agreed, and we're going to meet next week.

I'll let you know what the meeting was like--I'm not sure what to expect, but I figured that since I'm in town....

I have been complete since 8/21. It seems they stopped offering a lot of interviews right before they got to that complete date so here is hoping another batch of interviews comes out soon.

complete since 8/27. i would love love love an interview at this school- does anyone have an inkling about when the next batch of invites will go out ? :luck:

is there a status update website? I've been unable to find it if there is

EDIT: haha nm I just found it

Anyone planning to apply to the premedical postbac if not accepted? Does anyone know any information about it? After researching some past threads it appears that the predental postbac is for disadvantaged applicants only but nothing on the Creighton website says the premedical program is. Any current medical students know the status criteria for this program?

For those of you who drove to your Creighton interview, how is the parking and where exactly did you park?

my student host drove into a parking lot that was right next to the med school building. PLENTY of spaces and I don't think a permit was required. If i remember correctly, it was associated with Creighton, but it said something like military on the building too...

Park outside the Criss building. Inside the door, there is a place to sign in so that your car won't get ticketed. Even if it does, its no big deal because they are just university tickets (not with the city or anything) so you don't have to pay them.

Any word on decisions from Creighton? I dont remember if they said it was ok to call or not....

Decisions to interview or decisions to accept? For the interview Im sure you can call, but I dont think they will necessarily tell you much (before mine I emailed and didnt get much info. about any decision). As for acceptances, they told us they strictly hold to the Oct. 15th rule and wont disclose that info. prior to then. As for after Oct. 15th, it takes about two weeks for you to get voted on by committee and sent a decision via mail and phone call (accept, waitlist, reject). Good news is that they seemed to be extremely helpful in telling waitlisted applicants what they need to do in order to get accepted.

and just to give you an example of how long it takes them to notify applicants of their post interview status: the 10/10 interview group was told that the adcom would send out a letter via US Postal mail or by phone call on 10/24 or 10/27.
And they will accept people all the way into August. Just be sure you respond to any emails promptly...or you could lose your acceptance!

I interviewed in early September, so does that mean its going to b the end of October before I hear anything? I figured I would call the 15, but they havent even voted on me yet?
