Sweetie, I'm guessing (hoping?) he was skimming. It was your godfather reference that originally caught my eye about his big news, very clever. 🙂

Bruce - congrats! It's a little weird that you've seen your wife's ovaries. I think it's only fair that you...uh. Nevermind. What'd you name the baby?

MsKrispy, yeah, sorry I missed your cleverness there. Her name's Daphne. (mom and baby are sleeping again.)

Received an interview invite today from Drexel, my first one 🙂

I was complete 8/15 and am scheduled for 11/14. Can't wait!!!!!

Best of luck!

-BP

HELP!!!😀

Have you brought this up with the Admissions Office? If you want to switch your interview date, you're best off doing it through them.

for those of you already interviewed, did anyone stay at the Student Guest House? Was it nice and was the ride to the interview reliable? The only reason I want to stay there is because of ride to campus, but I don't want to be late because of it. Thanks!!

so drexel put me on hold (via status page), it says something like "your file has been reviewed and will be re-evaluated later in the season for a final decision"......

Does anyone else have problems with the status link? I used to think it disappeared after hours, but it hasn't shown up once today.

Yup, I stayed at the Student Guest House for my interview. The host family was very nice and accommodating. The lady drove me to Drexel (which is like a 5-7 minute walk anyway) at around 8:45AM. I wouldn't worry about running late because Drexel is certainly within walking distances.

could someone please post the link to the status log-in page?

thanks!

Do they stop giving out secondaries? I added this school last week, but so far nothing. Dammit I want my $30 worth of email secondary link! I read in the previous posts that some people could get in by using the retrieve a forgotten password (a la Palin hack)? Does that actually work?

I've heard of this working, but only if they've actually entered you into the computer. It's more likely that they just haven't gotten to your application yet. Drexel tends to get a little backed up, so try and hold out a little longer.

I just added Drexel three days ago. I called and the guy on the phone gave me really generic info. He basically said just to give them time, so hopefully they send us a secondary soon. Its getting late🙁

Thanks for the info. how was the interview? did you like the area? I'm nervous...

The interview was very laid back. I had a faculty and student interview. Both interviews were done on a one-on-one basis. The student interview happened during lunch. As for the faculty interview, they split us into two groups. One group would interview on campus and the other at the teaching hospital. Unfortunately, the teaching hospital is off campus and you have to catch a shuttle 30 minutes in advance of your interview appointment.

The area is really nice since it's all residential. Rent is very affordable and you can rent places near campus so that you can roll off your bed and walk to school just in time for classes. Since the area is residential, there doesn't seem to be a lot that you can do there. However, the SEPTA (train) public transit is right near the campus and you can catch a train to go downtown with relative ease. Overall, it was a nice school with lots of friendly people. Just take it easy, you'll have a great time there.

Wow, really! They just took your secondary application money and ran with it .

The "downtown" area of East Falls (where Drexel Med is located) has a few restaurants but not much. Besides Center City, many students head to Manayunk, a trendy sort of area with lots of shops, bars, and restaurants. Post-exam outings are almost always there, and it's less than three miles from campus. A number of students live there too, so you have other options for housing.

lol three days? You could give them a little time to get the secondary back to you, you know

So I applied to Drexel last year and throughout the entire process by status page said "No decision is currently available. Please continue checking this website for updates.", and it never changed until they expunged all of last years' applications. Since my status currently says that again, I figured I'd call and see if they can tell me anymore. The response was a rude "check online for your status update." After explaining to the guy about last years' fiasco, he said that as long as it is marked complete, expect an answer 6-8 weeks from the time it is marked as complete. And that's on top of the fact that it took them to upload my electronically delivered LORs a month after I submitted (and 6 weeks after they were sent). So is this to be expected with Drexel, or am I just one of the unlucky ones?

You're not alone. I've been complete since ~8/19 and still have the same message as you. Hopefully our messages will change soon.

I don't want this to come off as snobbish or anything but I just got an invite from Drexel and I should be hearing back from 2 schools that I really liked last week where I had great interviews at. I'm not really that interested in this school and living on the west coast makes it hard for me to travel to Phily plus I'll already be going to Hershey for Penn in 2 weeks. The earliest date they offer is late November. Should I just wait to book an interview date to see if I get an acceptance and then decline the interview? Or should I just book it now just in case and call them later to cancel if I do get offered an acceptance? Also what is good about this school?

First off, I've never been quite sure why people apply to schools that don't interest them. If it were me, I'd schedule the interview now and if you get accepted somewhere you like better, decline the interview.

So here's what I like about Drexel:

1. Technology.

Drexel is known for its technological focus, and the medical school is no different. There's wireless everywhere. Lecture halls, cafeteria, library, gross lab, bathroom, everywhere. All the lectures are recorded on video and available online soon afterward. This includes the audio/video, the powerpoint slides, and the lecture notes. You never have to go to class if you don't want to (besides occasional mandatory events).

2. Curriculum.

Two to choose from, based on your particular learning styles. IFM is traditional lecture-based, and PIL is taught in small groups for those who would prefer more interactive learning.

The IFM material is broken into modules that are SYMPTOM-based. This is pretty unique, and provides a context for what's being taught. For example, in the "Muscle Weakness" module, during biochem you'll learn bout ATP production; in Physio you'll learn about action potentials and muscle contractions; in Genetics you'll learn about muscular diseases, in Gross and Micro you'll look at nerves, muscles, etc.; and in Nutrition you'll learn about dietary components essential to these processes. Many people like it because, despite how seemingly unimportant the material may be to the actual practice of medicine, everything can be traced back to the central medical idea.

3. Grading. Grades from exams and quizzes are all multiple-choice in IFM (just like it'll be on the boards) and grades are usually posted within a few hours of completion.

4. Faculty. Everyone is ridiculously nice and goes out of their way to help you out if you have questions.

Hope that helps a little.

Wow that really made me like Drexel a lot more!

ok, now i REALLY REALLY hope i get an interview invite from here 🙂

Thanks for the information, the school definitely seems more appealing. I just decided to book an interview and see what happens. Btw, let me rephrase about my feelings towards the school...its not that I'm not interested, but rather I really like other schools that I've already interviewed at and have a good feeling about. And since I'm already flying to Pennsylvania this month I'd rather not pay for another 400 dollar flight again.

Does anyone know if Drexel accepts writing intensive courses as equivalent substitutes for English Requirement? Or it only accepts ones starting with ENG in course title? thanks

Thanks for that great info, saqrfaraj!!!! 😀

I really want an invite. 😳

You are not alone.

i interviewed there a week ago and it was one of the most laidback interviews i've had. everyone there was really nice and the person who came in to talk about the PIL program was one of the most enthusiastic people i've met. if i get accepted i'm looking to apply for that program. the building there was pretty new, which was a plus. i was one of the people who had an interview at the hahnamann hospital, which in the end wasn't too bad because it gave me time to review my materials. getting to the hospital is easy, because the walk to the shuttle was 15 seconds from the door. the interview basically consists of the interviewer going through your amcas application and talking about specifics in the application. the student interview was even more laid back, and it basically consisted of him telling me how much he liked the school. oh yeah, theres an essay, but its an easy one. basically if you get an interview here, go over your amcas essay, be prepared to explain why you want to go to drexel and sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

Same here. I had that message for all of last year until they finally sent out rejections in August. Now I've had it again since 8/6 and I am betting that it will be the same routine as last year.

I was complete on 8/26 and I am waiting too...I also have the same message....I have no patience for this kind of stuff but I guess Im also early if its has just been 6 weeks today....... and people from 8/17 are still waiting

Anybody still waiting on just a secondary....??? I added Drexel last week and no secondary yet🙁

i have been complete at drexel since the end of august. argh waiting sux 🙁

For any of you that have already interviewed do you have any more information on the essay, ie. how much time do they give you? what are you writing about?

Thanks for any help you can give🙂

Saqrfaraj,

Would you happen to know how likely it is one gets an interview after getting the hold/re-evaluated later message...or how long that message usually stays there? Just curious. I've had that for about a month but I'm not expecting it to change anytime soon.

oh yeah, theres an essay, but its an easy one.
Yeah, the essay thing is new this year.
Hey bluesmd, I just read these two posts this morning and several people talked about it on the interview thread. I guess you have to fill out an essay the day of your interview, but that is all I got so far.

Yea, there is an essay that they hand out at the beginning of the interview day. You just need to turn it in before you're done for the day.
