interviewed today. My interviewer was nice, if VERY old-school (she mentioned that she was "of the old school" like twenty times) but she told me at the beginning that to her knowledge, the class was full, and also informed me that she had no pull with the admissions committee.

That said, she hoped I'd get in, and really wanted to see me at UCLA in the fall. 🙄

I wasn't aware that the class was full...not quite sure what she meant about that, because I'm pretty sure UCLA isn't interviewing for the waitlist yet.

Basically.. that means that the interview is just a formality and doesn't really affect your chances regardless if you do well? =_=

Does this mean all acceptances have already been sent out and there won't be anymore at all???! I interviewed 2 weeks ago and my status hasn't changed.

no status change could mean waitlist/hold/rejection letters that haven't been sent out if indeed the class is full..unfortunately.

I hope not! My interview is only in two weeks 🙁

that sounds semi-sketchy.....but who knows....it is mid-march and they've been accepting for 3 or 4 months now

i seriously doubt that they are not sending out any more acceptances given that they still have a whole month left of interviewing. not to mention all the people that they have interviewed and not yet decided what to do with. the class being full does not preclude them sending more acceptances because many people will not end up going to UCLA that are offered admission.
:xf::xf::xf:

Based on mdapplicants.com for UCLA applicants who applied for matriculation in year 2008: 373 applied, 95 interviewed, 35 accepted, which gives us a post-interview acceptance rate of about 37%.

Applicants who applied for matriculation in year 2009: 360 applied, 81 interviewed, 16 accepted, which gives us a post-interview acceptance rate of about 20%.

Not exact science, but looks like many more acceptances are due this year.

Here is a summary of acceptance letters sent on March 12:

Dunc: interviewed in October

tmacroo310: interviewed October 23

bobdogsam43: interviewed in November

ymack: interviewed february 5

Balkanski: Interviewed february 10

blue star: interviwed February 20

I interviewed in February but later than February people above.

They may not have gotten through everyone in the last meeting if they are still doing some Oct/Nov people. I called the admissions office and asked the lady if she could take a look at my file, she told me that I would not be hearing back from them until April. I guess they didnt get to me or couldnt decide. My interview was 2/19.

mine was 2/12 just to add to the sdn database 🙂

They have accepted enough to fill the class, but they accept 300 people for 150 spots.

It is not a swell time to be waiting, and applicants are at a disadvantage now relative to before, but it is still certainly possible to get in.

I interviewed yesterday as well! Very good experience all in all.

Any current UCLA students know what happens on your URSA when you're accepted? I've heard something changes on URSA to reflect your acceptance. I was wondering what that was and when you noticed it?

Did you get a change in your URSA? From reading past UCLA student's posts, they checked their ursa after they noticed a final letter sent and saw a SIR on the account.

Aww i'm sorry >_< if you don't mind, can you tell us when you had a status change on your application status for "final letter sent?"
It says 3/11, but I checked this weekend and it hadnt changed then. So im guessing monday or tuesday

I got the pre-interview reject too last weekend. I guess no school love for me 🙁. COME ON IRVINE! Last chance :scared:

Has the 2nd look email been sent yet? I apparently accidentally deleted U Mich's email, so I just wanted to check on UCLA...

I also have not received an email yet about 2nd Look Weekend. Has anyone received anything since the acceptance (or a change on URSA)?

I've only received financial aid related emails.

just got the financial aid emails.........i think all of the housing/second look/SIR/SLR/etc. stuff will show up on our status page at some point

Just got my UCLA fin aid estimate.
After 4 years, I would be $180k + interest in debt?!?! For public school?! What the hell? That is terrible... is CA really struggling that badly financially?

My mom's gross income is ~$120k minus about $30k in expenses because she is self-employed. We have no assets beyond our home and she has zero savings. She's not paying anything for med, but even if she wanted to, that is way too much.

Probably even more than $180k because tuition will surely continue to rise every year. I'm sure people will be beating down UCLA's door regardless of how much they charge or how little they give out in aid. Have you heard about finaid from UCSF yet? I'm curious about what they offer in comparison.

On an unrelated note, how on earth did you qualify for the fee waiver if your mom makes that much? I know that's not a ton of money for the Bay Area, but I thought the family income cutoff was much, much lower.

Wow, your mom's rich. At least in comparison to my mom that makes 30-50k gross income. That's probably why UCLA is making you pay so much, because I got a pretty nice scholarship.

Actually, since UCLA's aid is so discouraging, I probably won't even bother filing aid at UCSF. I can't imagine the UC's being too different.

And I knew someone would ask 🙂. My mom usually makes way less than that, this was just a particularly good year for her (and bad year for me since it just means I'll have more debt).

She made $25k during my application year, which qualified us for FAP (cutoff is like $50k-60k for my household). If only we could go back to that for this fin aid cycle too.

For comparison, my mom has paid ZERO for my Yale undergrad education the past 2 years, and a total of $10k/year for my first two years when she was making a comparable salary to now (all based on need). So paying nearly full price is quite a shock to me.

I think most students will end up footing the majority of their med school bill. I don't think many people have parents with the resources to finance their education (especially with so many Americans losing all their assets in last 18 months.)

Personally I don't think parents income should really factor into finaid packages.

Congratulations on the turnaround. That is good news for your family in this tough economy ... especially for someone who is self-employed. My family, and probably many other families, have just the opposite situation. I'm waiting to see how it pans out in the financial aid arena.

Of course, it feels silly to have to get my dad's tax information when I've never asked for nor received assistance from them. I've been on my own for about a decade now. Everyone has to jump through these hoops as part of the process.

any status changes yet?

all this silence is making me nervous.

Hey there, I just got the unranked waitlist letter from UCLA in the mail today. I was wondering if anyone had any specifics on how many people get in off the waitlist? I've heard a pretty large range of numbers but since I never got to talk to any admissions people at the interview, I have no clue what to expect. Also, how did you reply to accept the waitlist: email, phone or snail mail?

Thanks!

Did anybody ever get a CONFIRMATION that they were put on the waitlist? I sent my snail mail in a few weeks ago or whenever they waitlisted (half-rejected) me, but I haven't heard anything back.

And whambo, yea I have heard anywhere from 10%-40%, so I don't think anybody really knows and honestly it's probably one of those things that changes drastically year to year. The most discouraging part is that it's unranked so basically somebody with your similar traits, characteristics, and (assuming) stats would have to drop out in order for them to consider you. This is how I have heard they do it, but I don't see HOW they could accomplish something like that, which makes me think it actually is a semi-ranked waitlist. Ah, too much speculation.. I'll be in the UCSD thread.

Yeah.. I've heard that its not that big of a number actually.. like stated above from 10% and up. Just wondering, did you get a status change on your applicant status saying "final letter sent?" If so, what date did it have on it?

i needed to check something else and called the admissions office today. i believe that i've talked with ian, who was very patient and helpful. i also asked him when i would possibly hear back (i've interviewed in mid-feb), and he told me we should expect to hear back "in next couple of weeks." that's around when my roomie is hearing back from his b-school interview. i hope we both get in. hehe

Yeah.. Ian is pretty nice to talk to though I wonder if that is the standard answer because I asked the same thing and he said "couple of weeks".. my interview was 2/3.. I hope we all get in~

While Ian is nice and all, I feel like he is the biggest source of misinformation--I think there are accounts of him telling people different things even when asked on the same day. I guess my point is the people who staff the admissions office are so full of BS it's hard to get any kind of straight answer from them. It's mostly just hot air. Take what they say with many grains (blocks) of salt.

edit: and incase anybody missed my post above, did anybody get some sort of confirmation that they were placed on the waitlist after sending in their snailmail/email whatever?

I would definitely call them for any sort of confirmation.

No confirmation. I'm probably going to call them Monday to check. I also snail mailed mine in.

Yes, I did get a change in my status, it said the final decision letter was sent. However, because it takes a while for the website to reflect your status change, I actually got the letter in my mail the same day that the website said there was a change.

I interviewed on the 10th of February and received the waitlist today March 20th.

From looking at years past on SDN, it seems that the waitlist doesn't move much until late may and june, so I guess I'll be hunkering down.
