I like how this doesnt strike you as an arrogant comment.
You can deem it as arrogent if you want, but I call it blunt, honest, and true. Too often on SDN people say things to others to make others feel better (or make themselves feel better). It is often seen by people saying things like "your undergrad school doesn't matter in terms of getting into med school", "GPA and MCAT aren't everything, you have a shot at Harvard with your 3.3 gpa 32 MCAT", "where you go to med school won't affect your residency". This can make people feel better but I prefer people just give me the honest truth of what they know, and I know many people at UCSD med school and none of them chose it over UCLA. UCSD is an excellent school in an excellent location, and anyone who goes there should be proud, but don't pretend that it is your top choice while you are on UCLA's waitlist when you know you'd go to UCLA if you got in.

Basically, I just want people to be honest with their top choices, even if they don't get into them. If you end up at a school that wasn't your #1, it is ok to acknowledge it.

Because being on a school's waitlist means it HAS to be your top choice? I am on the wl at DM as well, the reason being that I like to have options/compare financial aid and other factors. It doesnt mean Id actually choose either of these schools over UCSD. Plus if most people at UCLA share your opinion of self-worthiness then my decision is probably already made if it were to arise.

Again, it is not my opinion of self-worthiness. Rather it is a true empirical observation of the many people I personally know who attend and attended UCSD SOM, in addition to seeing the choices made by last years applicants on SDN. My opinion is not involved.

C'mon people, lets end all the negative/ tense conversation here. Your just splitting hairs w/ regard to UCLA vs UCSD. Fact is, they are both great schools that I would LOVE to go to. Stop the fussing.

We need some positive energy back in this thread 🙂

Hopefully, it brings some more acceptances from those of us still hoping:xf::luck::xf::luck::xf::luck:

Thank you CeeLos! I'm still waiting for good news for wait listers. The movement is encouraging and I'm one of those people checking for a change on my status page.

Good luck, and I'm sure everyone who gets into a school this cycle will be happy with that. I'm incredibly happy that I will be going to med school, and thus, become a physician.

Don't forget to look on the bright side of things.🙂:xf:

It looks like a decent number of ppl got off the UCLA waitlist over the past few days. Considering how it seems that more SDN ppl got off the waitlist at UCLA as compared to UCSD, maybe this was the big batch of waitlist acceptances already? Im just wondering how it works out for ppl like me that still havent recieved an initial decision.

seriously! lucky baby otter hugs for all us waitlisters. (in love with my new avatar)
:luck:😍:luck:

I saw the :luck:😍 and thought you got in!!

I also am wondering how the waitlist works here (I posted yesterday too 😳). Does movement happen in one big batch or continuously throughout the first 2 weeks in June?

Im just wondering how it works out for ppl like me that still havent recieved an initial decision.

I average about four status checks per day. haha, I need to get away from computers for a while. I'm driving myself crazy in anticipation of the "letter sent" designation.

Seriously, I dont why we didnt hear anything for those of us that have not received an initial decision. Some theories are that we have already been rejected. Silently.

But that doesnt make sense to me because then why wouldnt they have just rejected us back in the 5/8 batch. There must be some reason why we havent heard anything yet. I think that not being rejected in the 5/8 batch means that we are still being considered. The lady i spoke to said that I should hear back "by the beginning of June" If nothing else, at least all the waiting will be over then.

Me too, haha! Just to echo past questions... does anyone know if waitlist acceptances will be done in batches or continuously throughout this month?

i think a lot of us are wondering the same thing..but so far no one seems to know...

Alright. As with the UCLA PRIME thread, I'm going to be the bearer of bad news here 🙄

I called the admissions office, spoke with a very nice lady. She said that currently the class is full, and to expect movement only around the end of this month.

I also asked if movement happens in one big batch or continuously rolling, and she said it's all rolling. (However, she also said that the next adcom meeting will only meet in mid-June, so while it's rolling...it looks like it's rolling in batches 🙂

Hope this helps! I know I won't feel the need to check my status page 29380432 times a day until 3rd week of June. Then of course, it'll go back to obsession...

I would rather have anesthesia without surgery than be subjected to this wait.

I know many people who go/went to ucsd. Not one of them got into ucla and turned it down. I'm sure it exists, but I would venture to say that 85%+ of people who get into both end up at UCLA. There are some people like drywax who feign a strong interest in UCSD while at the same time sending UCLA a Letter of Intent, but in the end will choose UCLA.

I did a mdapplicants search of ppl who were accepted to ucla in the past 4 yrs, and weeded through them manually to find ppl that got into ucsd. There were definitely ppl that got into both and chose ucsd. =)

Myself, I'm still pretty torn. I think I'm gonna take a trip down to UCLA to see the campus a bit more. Anyone know if there are tours or anything set up right now? Too bad its summer.

If you are going to go to see UCLA again for its campus, you are probably going to fall in love with it. UCLA has a gorgeous campus and, well, UCSD, doesn't have the nicest one in the world.

I would definitely factor other decisions more highly into this, such as how helpful the staff and admissions people are, how much you like PBL, financial aid packages (biggest one in my opinion), etc.

People say that there's more entertainment at UCLA, which is entirely true, but I would bet the things in Westwood can be pretty expensive (please feel free to correct me). So, if you have to drive to Chinatown, Little Italy, etc...with LA's crazy traffic, I could almost imagine the commute being just as long as getting to things in San Diego.

If you want regular campus tours, they are still going on and will continue throughout summer.

I am also going to be at UCLA until June 13th, so I can give a tour too or a free dining hall meal/smoothie/coffee/ice cream... except I will be very biased. 😀

Have you even BEEN to UCSD's campus? I don't think you know what you're saying. If anything, they're both equal.

Hey Guys,

I just got in off the waitlist. I am biking across the country so my parents had to tell me. See you all in a few months!

Congrats! What was your online status change date and when did you receive the letter?

Congrats. Does anyone know if the list is ranked or unranked? Im just trying to find a method to this madness. Anyways, I still wait for my initial decision. Can anyone that is still waiting for their initial decision post when they hear something?

They claim that it's unranked and that they are trying to "make" a class. The way that I understand it is that they try to get someone somewhat similar who just withdrew from being accepted. Although I'm sure that it's not completely unranked and they probably view some waitlisted people more favorably than others

hey..yeah the status change was 5/26..i interviewed on halloween, and was unranked for a long time...🙂 hope to meet you guys soon!

Wow, biking across the country. That sounds amazing. I'm still stuck in school writing papers and cramming for exams (albeit with less fervor than I used to...damn this senioritis). 😀

ooooo!! I'll probably be there Fri-Sun (Jun 5-7). Wanna show me and a friend around?!?! =D Or maybe just point us towards important stuff and we can wander ourselves? Whee!

Also, whats with the "accepted students checklist" link on the status page? It says I need to have received a letter to access that page, but I have.

if you decide on UCLA you need to start completing some of their objectives....White Coat ceremony, family orientation, URSA, BruinCard, housing, health info, etc. Go ahead and click on it and see what's there

Can someone call admissions and ask if there's any hope of getting in off the waitlist. I'm vacationing in thailand and the only connection I have to the world is this dinky Internet café lol

class is currently full right now and that probably sometime in late june it will move =/

Oh yeah for sure! feel free to PM me with what times are convenient and all that stuff. i am supposed to be studying hard for finals, but at this point... i think i can take a 2-3+ hour break. 😛 Maybe tomorrow afternoon? Let me know!

Letter sent 6/5/09, I couldn't be more anxious. Thanks MoonUnitZappa for the heads up!

My status says letter sent 6/5/09 as well!!!!!!

I also have "Accepted Student Checklist" link as well.

Does that mean im in?!

You are in. Congrats! I don't have "Accepted Student Checklist." Do you see anything different from before when you log in to URSA? I don't.

BluntSurgeon, did you have "Accepted Student Checklist" when your status changed to "letter sent 5/26/09 ??? Or did "Accepted Student Checklist" appear a few days later?

It was there once the status changed. Does yours not say anything? I don't want to sound like a downer but things might not be looking too good if that's the case.

I cant find any changes on my URSA. Where do I look?

My status says Letter sent 6/5/09, but I don't have "Accepted Students Checklist." This is initial decision for me and I agree that lack of "Accepted Student Checklist" is not a good sign. My interview went really well but who knows how much the interview counts...

I don't think the interview counts for anything. I had what I would call a terrible interview (compared to some of the interviews I had at other state institutions) and I still got in.

You must have very solid numbers and great extras.

But unless you checked your status like 5 times a day, there is no way to tell for sure if the "letter sent date" and "accepted students checkslist" we updated at the same time, right? E.g. your status changed on 5/26/09 and "accepted students checklist" was added on 5/27/09. If you checked your status online on 5/30/09 then you may assume that they changed together... I guess I am just trying to keep the hope alive even though I don't expect any good news 🙂

It would help if other accepted students could post whether they had the "accepted student checklist" as soon as they noticed their status change.

You bring up a very good point. In fact, I never checked my status until I got the acceptance letter (which was a few days after the 26th). So assuming I checked on the 28th or 29th, I might have just seen the final version of the page. There very well could have been a delay between the time that they posted the status change and the time that they made the checklist available.

MUZ, hope is never lost, always keep dream alive. If you don't get into UCLA it was probably for the best. It seems like life works out in the end regardless of the where/whats/whens/hows. Where else have you been accepted?

edit: in reply to your stats and ECs comments, yes I do and to tell you the truth I am pretty bitter about how I had to achieve way above and beyond what's required since I am competing against my over-represented asian brethren. But that's for another thread.

I have no acceptances. This is my 2nd time applying.
