Anyone know what we should be expecting from the admission's committee? Last communication I had with the adcom I was told "applicants should receieve their status before the end of February"..

I called them last week and they said they were finishing up interviews and we would receive emails at the end of the month...which means sometime between now and Saturday I guess???

I found it to be the norm that admissions committees like to send out emails last thing Friday afternoon,.. giving students a grace period to cool off before the concerns come rolling in.

So five o'clock Friday is my prediction.

Good luck to all of you anxious applicants. I hope you get good news soon. And if you don't, look on the bright side, you wont spend the next year living in a 10'x14' room with no windows. :xf:
But if you ARE lucky enough to spend the next year in a little room like that, may I recommend taking a summer course in "how to correctly pass papers to the people next to you: reduce the number of times your small group members have to ask 'who's missing page 2?' " :meanie:

For some of us, even a summer course wouldn't help.

I like to think of it as, "I have many different talents and passing objectives is not one of them."

Seriously this is ****ty. If you know you're going to miss your deadline, at least let us KNOW.

I called today, the admissions lady didn't say much, just that they recently finished up interviews and they will be sending out an email within a few days. So whatever that means. We did get the last one on a Sunday, so there's still hope for this weekend. I am so tired of checking my email!:xf:

We are pleased to inform you that you have been assigned a position on the alternate list for the 2009 entering class of the University of Missouri School of Medicine. The 96 person alternate list is rank-ordered and is confidential. In other words, we will not tell you your exact position on the list.

More waiting!!!

Good luck migm. They won't tell you your exact position, but they will tell you top 1/3, mid 1/3, etc. Last year 62 of 96 got in off the waitlist.

Is it just me or does the alternative list e-mail make it seem like they are not going to tell us what third we are in? 🙁

Wait listed as well.

I replied to the email asking what third I am in.

I got the waitlist email today. Anyone know of the dates by which those who got accepted will have to decline from going so that the list will start a moving?

May 15th is bascially the day things get moving. (That's when AMCAS says you have to draw-down to one school or lose your deposits.) Then the domino effect ripples across the nation's medical schools for about a month before slowing back down just before orientation. Expect most of the movement in the second half of May, first part of June.

They won't tell you your exact position. My understanding is they will tell you what third you are in if you ask.

Wait-listed as well.... I will have to call them tomorrow to see what 1/3 of this list I am on. I want to know who actually got in? 😕

What kills me is that so many people use Mizzou as their backup and those are the people that end up getting in and that wait until May 15th to officially decline their acceptance, even though they weren't seriously considering going there in the first place! 😱

I know that there are extenuating circumstances and some people are waiting on financial aid packages and what not but as a PSA: Kindly withdraw from schools at which you were wait-listed or accepted if you have little intention of attending. That extra two weeks that you might wait to decline a school might not make a difference to you, but it makes a world of difference to those who would really like to attend said school and are waiting anxiously and compulsively checking their e-mail.

Thanks! 😳

Was anyone able to figure out what 1/3 they are in on the waitlist by calling or emailing?

I just called Ms. Easton's office and was told by Shawn, the receptionist, that she would have to call me back later for this information. :xf: Sigh, so anxious to know.

Hey guys,

I'm on the alternate list as well . . . and dying to know whether I should be really excited (top third) or nervous (middle third) or despondent (bottom third)!

I called at 9:30a (CST) this morning, but got their voice mail. I left a very nice message and have been anxiously awaiting a reply for the past two hours! Argh! I came on here to see if anyone else had any luck . . . sounds like "no" thus far. I think I'll call back around 1p if I haven't heard by then. *Sigh* Patience really is a virtue . . . 🙄

EDIT: Didn't see the post above mine . . . guess I'll hold off on calling back and let them call me when they are able. ARGH! This last little bit of waiting is harder than all the rest of it combined!

I emailed them Saturday. The haven't responded. Will they only respond to phone calls?

What phone number did you guys use to call? Was it the one they provided in the alternate list email? I think that goes directly to the receptionist and I kept getting voicemailed in that one. Ironically, the same receptionist picks up the phone when you call Marivern Easton's line directly. It almost seems like they are avoiding the main line haha. Anyways, someone try Ms. Easton's line and see if you can actually get a hold of her in person. I already used up my "try"! It is 573-882-8047

This is so ridiculous. They rate us with a numerical score. How long does it take to sort the list of applicants and tell people what third they are in? They could have told the majority of applicants months ago which third of the list we would end up in with reasonable accuracy.

Holding no acceptances at this stage is a real test of nerves.

nope, i wonder if they are just saying that they will call us back, but are planning on waiting for a couple days before they actually do.

I called this morning at 8:30 and then again a few hours later. The first time, the lady acted like she didn't know what I was talking about and said she's pass on a message for someone else to get back to me. The second time, the lady said they were swamped with phone calls and needed time to get organized. It's almost as if they thought their office wasn't going to receive 96 phone calls today from anxious wait-listers.

Edit: Of course right after I post this, I get a phone call. Bottom 3rd. :-( Thank God I've been accepted somewhere else, even if I do have to pay out-of-state tuition. Good luck to everyone else!

Sorry to hear that nimapo. Are you a Missouri resident? What are your stats like? I'm not sitting on any acceptances yet and have all fingers and toes crossed...

I called around 1pm today and the receptionist said all of the admissions people were at lunch, and to call back in about 15-20 mins. I called back around 3pm since I was at work and had a break, at which point the receptionist said that Ms. Easton was out of the office! She said that she left her a note and that I should expect a call back. I'm thinking if I don't hear from her tomorrow I'll call on Wednesay. Anyone having more luck with e-mail? Also, does anyone think that Mizzou should start over-enrolling like every other school out there? This whole one spot at a time business is semi-traumatic.... 😱

Yeah, I'm a Missouri resident. Here are my stats: I go to the University of Tulsa and have a 3.87 GPA and got a 30P on my highest MCAT. I had another MCAT where I apparently forgot how to read and tanked on the Verbal Reasoning section, and that one was a 26R (probably what hurt me with most of my schools). I have a few EC's, but mostly I do volunteer work around the Tulsa area with a group here on campus.

I've been accepted here in Oklahoma, and I'm happy with the school, but I was hoping to go to Mizzou because my fiance's been accepted to their grad school for next year. Luckily he understands there's not really any room to be picky with med school, and we're just happy I got accepted somewhere at all.

takethat and viper - I'm in the same boat with no acceptances yet, so also quite anxious to find out my "third" I didn't get a call back today (argh!), so I guess I'll have to call again tomorrow morning. This is SO trying. Thank goodness I'm ridiculously busy at work and didn't have time this afternoon to torture myself. I do find this whole "whoah, we need to get organized!" thing kind of funny . . . they sent out the e-mails on Saturday and told everyone at interviews that we could call to get what third we're in . . . did they really not think that we would do that first thing on Monday?? Good luck to all of us tomorrow, I guess. :luck:

You guys should also be aware that this is also exam week for the M1s and M2s, meaning that the OME is extraordinarily busy coordinating that, and pulling in every support person in the office to help out. Which would give some explanation as to why it's hard to get a return call at the moment.

Called at 8 this morning and got a call back after business hours.. bottom 1/3rd of the waitlist. bummer, but not wholly unexpected.

Aha! Good to know. I was going to call again this morning, but it sounds like I should just sit back and hold my horses. What's that saying "good things come to those who wait"? God, I hope that's true! :xf:

Good luck on your exams, Ping! :luck:

Just got a call from Ms. Easton. Bottom third, gg life lol. Good luck to all the rest of you!

I got a call back as well - middle third, but toward the top of that group (which was very nice of Ms. Easton to let me know!) I'll definitely be sweating it out, but I'm optimistic that this is good news! 👍

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear - it sounds like they are catching up on returning calls.

I am in the middle third as well!! I got a voicemail so I didn't find out where in the top third I am. This is so ambiguous! At this point it would be very helpful to know which 1/2 I'm in.

I emailed on Saturday and then called today (then said they would call me back). I just got an email from Easton apologizing for not responding to my original email earlier and telling me that I'm in the top third. So you should be able to call or email to figure out your place on the list.

So glad I found this thread. I didn't realize they would tell us what 1/3 we're in. I'm a little nervous to call though... I'm sitting on two alternate lists and Mizzou is the one I want. But I do need an idea of where I'm at so if I'm in the bottom 1/3 I can start looking at what I'm going to do the next year. Guess I'm going to just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best until I have a chance to call tomorrow.

I just called the number that was in the email and asked the receptionist (Shawn?) if I could find out my relative position and was told that they were not allowed to give that out. For those that have found out their "3rd" could you please post the direct number or email to Ms. Easton?

Just reply to the alternate list email.

Thats strange I called this morning and told her I wanted to know what 1/3 I was in and the receptionist told me that Ms. Easton was making those calls in the afternoon and she took my name and #. Found out that I'm in the bottom half of the middle 1/3. So in other words I'm in as "iffy" of a position as you could be in. Just wish the waiting game would end soon. They told me in May they would be able to tell me more of an idea of whether or not it looks like the list will make it to me or not based on trends from previous years.

Anybody know where I can see some of the statistics of how many people on the alternate list got acceptances in previous years besides just last year?

I don't know of any. Previous cycles weren't as internet friendly and the medical school doesn't publish that information. (Last year, after classes had started, I called the office and asked what the final count was.)

Waiting is tough, but that's part of the process. Hang in there and good luck!

Anyone know if the lecture portion of the curriculum has a note taking service or whatnot?

we don't use a not taking service. but we do have a class web page where people post lecture summaries, notes, etc...
Lecture comprises at most 40% of our test, and most of it overlaps with PBL
our class web page replaces note taking services very well,

because no matter who is in your class you will have people who do way more work than they need to, and then you just guilt them into sharing it.

Plus, the lecturers pretty much all use PowerPoint and they upload their lectures to the school's website.

There's just not a need for a note service these days. And like bep207 says, our class-run website (i.e. not affiliated with the school) is a more than adequate replacement.

I called Ms. Easton today and she told me that I'm in the top half of the top 1/3! Does anyone know the means by which they send out acceptances? That way, I'll know what to compulsively check for the few months.

I got my acceptance by email- I don't know for sure thats how they let people in off the waitlist though. I'm hoping you hurry up and get in! As far as I can tell, I'm the only person on SDN accepted at MU so far and I'm dying to start meeting some of my new classmates!
