It seems the ADCOM are up to mid-November. Is that right? I interviewed on 12/12 so this week would be the 8-week mark, but it seems as though I've still got a good 4 weeks left 🙂

that's good to hear! After Dr. Pettigrew and a couple of ladies started rejoicing that the last week of Jan was the last interview week...I reported it on here.

I never got one either. I guess we're at the low end of the list?
I got one in december, after being WLed in october. Maybe they send them out to people who have been waiting awhile. It probably doesn't have to do with a ranking... correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they rank their WL. Anyway, it looks like we have more waiting to do!

I got in today...interviewed the 19th of November. I was already expecting a WL after reading almost every single post in the last couple months. It IS POSSIBLE! Keep the hope! Good luck everyone!

Waitlist rumors from my days of undergrad there-
They don't specifically rank the waitlist. They look at the demographics and statistics of their class and then say, "Hmm..our average MCAT is a little low." Then they start accepting students off the waitlist with super high MCATs. Same for GPA, ethnicity, etc. I'd imagine.
Again, I could be completely off here. This was just the most common rumor/explanation while I was in undergrad!

I think they actually review everyone who is on the waitlist again. Don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure that's what I've been told. I doubt they just start taking people with the highest scores to raise the average MCAT or GPA. And I promise you, if you send update letters/letters of interest, they will be read.
The waitlist isn't ranked. They have a method for reviewing the waitlisted applications and I know it's frustrating not knowing what that method is. But my advice is to just send in your updates and tell them you're still interested, without trying to figure out exactly how things work--as hard as that may be.

I don't think that they pull for MCAT/GPA to make the average better, but I do believe that the demographics do play a role in it. A lot of schools do that with their waitlist if it's not a set rank (and I actually don't remember any school being a rank by number when I applied - usually it was a mysterious "tier" system or not ranked). If for example, a large number of nontrad students decline the acceptance, they will admit nontrads from the waitlist to replace them. Most schools work do waitlist that way.

Yea, well, sending me an email "reassuring" me that more people will be pulled off the waitlist this year doesn't really do the job- how do i know their waitlist isn't twice as long this year as it was last? Just seems like they're waitlisting more people than they initially rejected (rather than accepted) this time as compared to previous years....

I think they ARE waitlisting more people this year; hence, more people will be taken from the waitlist.
I'm sure it sucks to be on the waitlist and I know a lot of you are getting really annoyed. If this year's application cycle doesn't go well for Pitt because of the waitlist, they will change it for next year.
You're very reassuring. Annoyed is too trite of a word- I'd instead go for dispair punctuated with bruised hope?
Back to waiting for an indefinate period of time with no future plans and a constant burning stress. Thankfully they'll let us know in the time period of March-July; really puts my troubled mind at ease.

Does anyone have any idea when the waitlist is going to move? Is it for sure May 15th or could it be sooner? I really like Pitt but I feel like I'd like a second look at it but the office said only those admitted are invited and I'm on the waitlist and all. Ugh! This is so frustrating.

so i called the admissions office the other day and they told me WL is going to move after may 15. I really want to know when exactly they're going to start reviewing the WL ppl (some ppl say march some ppl say may... what is it... exactly?!?!). I've heard March and May too... in fact, I have heard that sending an LOInterest near the beginning of March is a very good idea if you are on the waitlist

ok 1)frannie you suck for having that choice right now. 2) the more waitlists I hear of the brighter this all seems. They are waitlisting almost EVERYONE right now - so really they are almost simply turning this into non-rolling admissions.

That letter totally doesn't make me feel better in light of the fact that everyone and their mom is being waitlisted. They interview like 1000 people (not an exaggeration), and seem to be waitlisting approx 1/2. That seems totally bonkers to me.

I have a financial aid question that applies to people that are waitlisted. Pitt's deadline to submit financial aid paperwork is April 16th (I think)...so do the people that are waitlisted need to fill out the Need Access and send in our tax forms prior to that date even though we don't know whether we will be accepted? Does anyone know? 😕
