Agreeable - It took only 4 weeks for me to hear about. I interviewed a week before Thanksgiving and heard back 12/18. However, they did tell us that we weren't going to hear until January, so I was very lucky!

I loved UT so good luck to you!
 
Got an interview invite....is this too late to be realistically considered for the class? Am I being interviewed for a spot in the class or a waitlist?

I have the same question; I won't be interviewing until March 12...
 
I got the e-mail (a few wks ago with the rest of you):

Greetings!
Your application for admissions to the University of Toledo College of Medicine is still under review for an interview decision. We are scheduled to interview through mid-April and expect most interview decisions to be made by late February. The committee is working diligently to thoroughly review all of the files in a timely manner and we ask your patience as we have received a record number of applications this year. All applicants will be notified of a decision by regular mail as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued interest in the University of Toledo. If you are no longer interested in attending UT, please let me know otherwise, it is not necessary for you to respond to this email.


Then I got the rejection letter today 🙁

Is it possible to get in-state tuition after first year and how? The OOS tuition is so high here.

I interviewed in early march. I got in off the waitlist, but I know some people from my interview group got in straight away (they're in my class now). You can definitely get in with a March interview.

Yes. I was OOS my first year and you can apply for IS tuition for M2-M4. I did that and am currently paying IS tuition. The application process is pretty easy Just make sure to talk to the Med School registrar's office when you're doing the paperwork... I tried to do it with the form I found online, which turned out to be for Main Campus. It all got done, but wound up being a lot more work than it needed to be.

What do you need to qualify for IS? Just being a student or you have to hold a job or something? Thank you for your help.

for ohio, its usually live in the state for 12 months, register to vote, and change your drivers license and car plates.
 
I just got the interview invite. Anybody know where I can stay and how the campus is like. I am from california... so i know nothing about the ways of people from the ohio :/

I was born in Toledo but have lived in California for 11 years now. A common thing said about Toledo is that its a great place to raise a family but not the best place to be a young person. That being said, when I go back and visit I always find a place to have fun with my family. There are nice bars and things that are not too far away, you just have to know where to go.

That being said, I LOVED UT. Out of the 4 places I've interviewed so far, everyone seemed very happy and enthusiastic about the school. The facilities were nice and the faculty was very welcoming and accommodating. It seemed like they really did care about their students and genuinely wanted everyone to succeed. Although I want to stay in California, UT is my top choice right now because my interview day had such a big impression on me.

That being said, its cold, there is always construction and the roads suck. Things are old there, but I like that. For example, my great grandpa's farm is a historic landmark in a nearby city and I get Tony Packo's pickles sent to me by my relatives for Christmas.

So if is this easy, then should every one get IS tuition after first year? I still have doubt. Can any current student confirm it?

Pretty much it. Few other deals, like you have to be financially independent for that year (i.e. your parents cant claim you as a dependent on their taxes). There's a fair bit of paperwork you have to do, but it really isn't that bad. Took a couple hours, if even.

BTW. if you're married and your spouse gets full time employment in Ohio, I believe you can get IS tuition immediately. Not 100% on this, but worth looking into if you're married and your spouse would be relocating with you.

I haven't seen the interview invite packets, but I believe they have info for the Hilton which is on campus (actually attached to the hospital via our underground tunnel system). There should also be a list of student hosts for the "coast-to-host" program, which is set up for students that have to travel in from out of state.

efitzpat gave a pretty good description of the area and the people. Everyone here is really nice. I'll let you see the campus for your self, I'll echo that it can be pretty cold here and it does tend to catch CA natives off guard. Check the forecast when you're getting ready to come and dress appropriately.

I don't know anyone that didn't get IS tuition after M1. I had a little trouble so it took longer b/c I managed to fill in the wrong form and they still got my IS tuition applied retroactively for the start of my M2 year. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to get In State tuition if you want it.

Which airport should I be using? The toledo express or the detriot one?
Is there an easy way to go from airport to the campus... Cabs can be expensive?

Is anyone else going on March 26th? I'm kinda worried that the interview is too late and I will, at best, get waitlisted.

If you can get a cheap flight into Toledo, that would make life easier. It's about 10 miles from school. The Hilton on campus might have a shuttle service to the airport, you might look into that... (not sure, but I think I'd heard this from one of the interviewees I gave a tour to)

I flew into Detroit for my interview, but I stayed with my family that lived in Detroit, borrowed their car and drove in in the morning.

With the "Please don't send updates" line, I'm going to go ahead and say that they're done sending out interview invites unless people cancel interviews. Anyone else getting the same vibe off of that email?

Same. Even though I am not quite sure what it means, I think it's cool of them to keep sending us updates instead of completely ignoring us like most schools do.

Well, we live mostly in caves and use only tonal grunting to communicate (better learn quick). Our most sophisticated tools include rock and big rock, however there are rumors going around about this thing called fire.....

Anyhow, the campus isn't bad. Isolated from the main roads by 1/2 a mile or so, but all the buildings are completely connected via underground batmanesque tunnels. I liked my day there. Pretty laid back. I believe the website has several hotels that are both inexpensive and close to campus. Good luck.
 
I got the email today as well. I sent them an update ~3 weeks ago, hope it didn't piss them off!!!

You will enjoy it. Had i not gotten in elsewhere i would have been very happy to go there.
 
Just a note on the "no status updates" thing...

I was never able to get an official word on that.

My understanding is that they have everything they need to make a judgment on your file. You don't need to send transcripts, additional LORs, etc.

I honestly don't think sending letters of interest is going to hurt.

It depends. They give you a schedule at the beginning of the day. I had one interview before lunch/tour and one after. Some people, though, had both interviews after lunch. You should still finish around 2 or 3, though. Its not too late.

I was born in Toledo, but have lived in California for 11 years. I loved UT when I interviews and my hatred of the cold is the only thing keeping me from withdrawing from every other school and saying yes to UT right now.

Its a great place, read above post about Toledo. The school was the best interview experience of the 4 I've been on so far. Good luck!

i just got an interview invite today too. is it for the WL. i don't think i will go if it's for the WL but otherwise I would consider toledo. are there any toledo students?
 
does anyone know what is M1/M2 schedule is like and is it block/traditional ???
 
copy pasting this from a PM to another user...


the basic outline is that you start with Biochem- Block I (Biochem/Genetics/Histo/etc), this is a pretty good transition block. It lets you adjust to the volume of med school gradually but it doesn't hit you as hard as Anatomy - Block II (Gross Anatomy/Histo/Embryo). The next block is anatomy. You've hopefully adjusted by now and built a study style. Anatomy is very well taught at our school and you'll get a lot of individual attention. Block III is split into 2 blocks, Neuro and Behavioral Science. They try to integrate the two when possible. And that's the end of first year. 2nd year is designed in a way that will pay off on the boards. It is also a lot more clinically relevant. You start off with Immunity and Infection, this covers immunology, pharmacology and infectious diseases. Then the organ systems block covers the physiology, pathology and pharmacology of the various organ systems, finishing in May giving you time to prep for boards. I can't really compare it to other schools, having only done the one system, but the way it's working for me is that the foundation is laid in M1 and then built heavily upon in M2 which is the core of the USMLE. The organ systems block gradually moves us closer to USMLE style questions/thinking and preps us for the exam.


Summary: Block/Traditional with an eye towards the USMLE M2

Where to get money? Sell your plasma! Depending on where you are you may make $15-25/hr to sit there and watch a movie for 90 minutes or so twice a week. This paid my rent for a few months in college.

I was definitely happy about this. I had recently asked when our fin aid info would be sent, and they said a few weeks, so 10 days is definitely an improvement! C'mon big money!
