Just to add the little info I have, last year UVA interviewed my friends with super high scores really early and they were accepted in October, and my friends with more average scores were interviewed later and accepted in march or so, whether they had applied early or late. So, maybe they just havent gotten to the lower scores yet!

I sort of get that feeling too. None of my friends have interviews yet, and they don't have anything above a 34 I believe. I met people interviewing at EVMS that had friends with interviews and they all had upper 30 MCAT scores.

Hopefully our chance comes!

I don't have a 35+ and I got the early acceptance...???

Keep the faith guys. Send in status updates regularly (but don't pester them), show your interest in the school. If you don't get an interview early it's not the end of the world.

I think it's about 50%.

Did anyone else get the "send us your transcripts" email? They need our transcripts pre-matriculation...not now, right?

I got that one today too. I don't think I'm going to send any until I make a final decision in the spring. I think they only need to have the transcripts pre-matriculation like you said.

Yeah, that's how I interpreted it as well. Besides, it wouldn't make much sense for me to send them in until the summer, seeing as I'm still in school and won't have final grades until then.

Sorry...one more question. How long did it take for you guys get a decision? It seems like they were sent out really quickly after the interview for some people, but it doesn't look like any have been sent out for a couple weeks now.

Anyways, I'm hoping for some good news. I called the Admissions Office yesterday and told them that I've had some interviews at other school, but UVA is still my first choice.

I'm in the same boat as you. Went to Uva for undergrad, complete in early August and havent heard a thing. Maybe they hold off on the undergrads?? NOo clue, but I really really want an interview!

I know one thing UVA does (and lots of other schools do this) is if someone cancels an interview just a few days before, then they'll sometime ask a local applicant if they can come in on short notice. But I don't think they go out of their way to hold off on undergrads.

I actually have a lot of friends at UVA (and in VA in general) and it seems to me that they're interviewing more OOS applicants first, and they'll get to us Virginia residents later in the cycle. Don't start worrying yet!

Can anyone recommend things to see/do the night before my interview? I want to get the most out of Charlottesville the one night I am there. It's on 12/3, what's the weather usually like by then? We usually have a foot of snow in MI by that point 🙂

Yay! I can't say anything about the weather...but the interview day is really chill. There were 6 students during my interview day. You'll have two 30 min interviews...one with faculty the other with student or faculty. Both are very nice and relaxed interviews.

No, there is no online status check. I would suggest calling, because even if they can't check your status for you then you'll know for sure.

I was curious. Is there a rivalry between UVa and MCV. I mentioned MCV in my why I wanna go to UVa essay, and I am wondering whether that might be the reason I have not been invited?

I think that VCU might have some slight negative feelings toward UVA because of the media snafu that occurred several years ago (a newspaper reported a notable case happening at the "Medical College of Virginia at University of Virginia"). But in general I think the two work in cooperation with each other - some of the really crazy trauma cases that UVA gets end up at VCU.

I felt more of an animosity from EVMS toward VCU and UVA.

I wrote about how I felt family was important, and my sister goes to MCV which is close by, and thus having a sister who is close by is a plus for me, and attracts me to the school also.

That won't hurt you, don't fret over it.

Everyone here needs to look on the bright side: UVa sent its first rejections recently; if you haven't received a rejection then it's still possible to get accepted.

I haven't witnessed any anti-MCV bias at UVa, and I haven't heard of any UVa bashing at MCV. I have, however, heard of plenty of UVA and MCV bashing at EVMS (especially at the interview). You may draw whatever conclusions you like from that.

I sent them an email letting them know I was going to be in the area interviewing at other VA schools. A week later, the dean emailed me back letting me know an invite letter was on its way and they worked me with to schedule my interview the same week as my other 2 interviews 🙂. So I would say give it a shot 👍

I find it pretty hilarious that I, and so many other UVa undergrads, have been given the cold shoulder thus far by our dear old UVa. Personally I have been complete since early August and am holding a few acceptances already.

A week later, the dean emailed me back letting me know an invite letter was on its way and they worked me with to schedule my interview the same week as my other 2 interviews 🙂. So I would say give it a shot 👍

Wow, that's a little surprising. I personally don't see MCV as being in "the area" (1.5ish hour drive). If that is considered acceptable, then I would try the same thing for the DC schools (DC is only 1-1.5 hour drive away if you're smart about the roads) too! EVMS is even farther away - 3+ hour drive. But I guess if you're from far away (like the W coast) then it's probably worth a shot to save $$$ !

Yea I was kinda surprised too. I live outside DC and go to school in St Louis--I told UVA that I was making a trip to DC and driving down to the other Virginia schools so maybe that helped? Either way, I was happy that they were so accommodating. Although if you think about, what other med school(s) is/are closer to UVA than MCV, besides maybe the DC ones?

Interviewed on November 10th.

Accepted on November 20th.

UVA has a remarkably quick turnaround after your interview.

Lesley Thomas is not a doctor - she's a lawyer. Look at the emails you've received from UVA - they're signed "Lesley L. Thomas, J.D." I thought it was interesting when I got the emails and letters. Just thought I'd share to head off any mistakes (I'm sure if you called her "Dr. Thomas" in an email, though, she wouldn't care - I met her on interview day and she's a very nice woman).

Secondly, I interviewed last week, and I just got an email today from amcas saying a school has requested a background check on me - UVA is the only participating school that I applied to, so it has to be them. Does that mean that I've been conditionally accepted? I haven't received anything from UVA yet. Has anyone else gone through this process? If it's good news, that would be great - it'd be my first acceptance!
