For those of you who have been accepted, have you gotten a package yet? I haven't received anything in the mail, and I'm wondering if I'm just supposed to send them a check?

Scrubs, are you leaning more towards UVM or Tufts? I am just curious. I interviewed at Tufts and I am wondering what you think of the two programs/which you would lean more towards going to. 🙂

I'll PM you about it! (If I can figure out how these PMs work...)

does anyone know vermont's approximate time between completion and interview right now? I was complete the latter end of september and still have the under review notification on my status page. thanks!

It says 6-8 weeks on your status page. That said, I seem to be nearing the end of the 7th week and haven't heard anything back yet. Could be a long wait. :scared:

It took at least that long for them to small-pool me, so the long wait is not something to be especially worried about.

They definitely seem to be taking at least the full 8 weeks for the prelim review. I was complete Sept. 19th, so tomorrow will be 8 weeks for me and I still have the prelim review status message.

vermont is awesome, just had my interview on the 15th and it is by far one of the most innovative schools I have seen so far.

Since I'm a non-trad, I don't have a premed office that I can go to to check out an MSAR. Does anyone know how many applicants UVM typically interviews and how large their class size is? I'd really love to know the number they accept but usually that number isn't available. I have an interview scheduled for Dec. 4th at UVM and am very excited but seeing how I'm a neurotic premed like the rest, I'd like to know the "odds." 😱

And I know... it doesn't really matter... but I'm still going to be a nut job. Lame.

Thanks guys! I totally appreciate your help.

So I just got this from checking my status online

Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months.

can anyone tell me if they had received this and what happened next?

thanks!

It means you are complete and you've been "small pooled." You just wait. You may get an interview some day, you may not. But you're not rejected. You're in a pool of people which they draw interviewees from.

Small-pooled yesterday, interview invite today! (Jan. 6th). I was complete one month ago.

Congrat!!! If you don't mind me asking, what's your mcat and gpa like? I was complete ~6 wks ago and still preliminary review... Thanks!

I'm not sure that would tell you much. I'm a very atypical applicant: much older than average, good BCPM from postbacc but low uGPA due to ancient baggage, weird unbalanced MCAT score.

I guess I wrote a good PS ...

So at this point, does no news indicate a silent rejection?

Congrats Student!! You are starting to clean UP!

Any OOS on the oos post-interview waitlist heard anything? (I know, I know, you would have posted, but I can't help myself, I had to ask.)

Haha, I've been checking today as well....I dunno, 2 weeks after I got placed on the OOS waitlist seemed a good day to get more news...but no, nothing has changed for me.

I doubt their committee meets every 2 weeks though.

Actually guys, they don't meet at all in November. I'm sorry. 🙁 The next time they meet is in December according to what they said at the interview day. I hope you guys hear good news then though!!

P.S. Breeak, is the UMass server down for you too? Lame that they do that to us on a Friday...

Does anyone know why they wait so long to waitlist all the OOS people? It seems like it would make more sense to waitlist everyone immediately after the interview rather than drawing it out. When I went to my interview, they said we would hear from them in early January, but why does it take so long if all they do is waitlist everyone?

I'm interviewing the 2nd...coming from Charlotte

Yeah, especially with all the stories about people getting taken off the waitlist at random times.

Ah, interesting, ok - so I'm guessing early Dec, fingers CROSSED! 🙂

I know know if the UMass server was down, I wasn't checking - I haven't interviewed yet, it's in Dec. (They originally scheduled me for Nov 5th, which I already had scheduled at another school, and the earliest umass could reschedule me was mid-dec. 🙁🙁)

Yeah, at my interview they said they were meeting in December and we should hear from them by January 7th.

I'm going to cling to the hope of hearing earlier than 2009. I refuse to celebrate new years without an acceptance! 😛😉

I am sort of hoping the same but its going to be tight for me. 2 Interviews in mid-Oct (incl. UVM) and now three more the first week of December. I wish I could schedule them as soon as I get an invite, but I restricted by working full-time.

Who knows...maybe it'll a magical christmas/newyears afterall.

Good luck everyone

So I have been smallpooled for 1.5 months. Is a rejection more likely than an interview invite at this point? I hear that people smallpooled heard back really soon about an interview.

Interesting article.

Burlington, Vt., is healthiest city, CDC says

What's the healthiest city in America? It appears to be Burlington, Vt. Vermont's largest city is tops among U.S. metropolitan areas by having the largest proportion of people — 92 percent — who say they are in good or great health.

It's also among the best in exercise and among the lowest in obesity, diabetes and other measures of ill health, according to a recent report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This New England city of 40,000, on the shores of Lake Champlain, is in some ways similar to the unhealthiest city — Huntington, W.Va. Both are out-of-the-way college towns with populations that are overwhelmingly white people of English, German or Irish ancestry.
But there the similarities end:

  • Burlington is younger, with an average age of 37, compared to 40 in Huntington, according to the Census Bureau.
  • Burlington is better off financially, with 8 percent living at the federal poverty level, compared to 19 percent in Huntington.
  • It's much more educated, with nearly 40 percent of area residents having at least a college bachelor's degree. Only 15 percent in the Huntington area do.
  • The cultures are significantly different, too. Bicycling, hiking, skiing and other exercises are common in Burlington. Neighborhood groups commonly focus on improving parks, working in community gardens and repairing and improving sidewalks.
  • "There's this norm of a lot of activity," said Chris Finley, Vermont's deputy health commissioner, who works in Burlington.
And though college staples like pizza are common, healthier foods are also popular. Grass-fed beef is offered in finer restaurants, vegan options are plentiful, and the lone downtown supermarket is run by a co-op successful in selling bulk rice and other healthy choices to low-income residents.
Burlington is helped by the presence of IBM and other employers offering more generous health benefits and corporate wellness programs than companies in Huntington, some experts suggested.

Has anyone received a rejection since being small-pooled?

okay, so I've been small-pooled for about 3 wks, at this pt. Maybe I should send them an update of my activities? Ugh.. I don't know what to do.

man i want to hear something out of burlington. I'm on the verge of 8 weeks complete now.

For those that are still undergoing the initial review process, did your status page just change? The first paragraph is the same, but the following two mini paragraphs disappeared from mine. This is strange.

I got small pooled after the longest wait EVER. I'd kind of forgotten about this school and haven't checked my page in a while though.

i just checked mine and have the same problem. this probably isnt good🙁

I dont know that its a problem per se, I was just curious if this was something that happened across the board or if it was only for me b/c I am only a few days short of the 8 week window.

The exact same thing happened to me. In addition, I am also just a few days short of the 8 week window.

ya i doubt its that much of a problem either, but in my paranoid state i feel as if UVM is slowly deleting my app from their server, piece by piece. and i should have mentioned i was around the 8 week mark as well.

Is this the change everyone has? I can't remember if this is a change at all, but I feel like the paragraphs were longer before.

Once the review is complete your status will be updated and you will be notified via the Online Applicant Center.

I hate to be the bearer of false hope but I noticed a similar change to my status page and then a few days later was small pooled. This was four to six weeks ago. I was incredibly lucky though because a few days after being small pooled, I was sent an interview invitation.

So don't let the change bring your hopes down. Worst case scenario it means absolutely nothing and best case you could be getting small pooled!! 🙂

awesome. thanks for the info wannabe. how long was it from the change until the small pool?

For those of you who have interviewed already, about what time does the day end? I know it says in the e-mail 4:30 at the latest, but I am just curious what time most people finish up so I can book a flight. Thanks!

You'll be assigned an interview time for either 1:30, 2:30, or 3:30, and the interviews last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. The majority of the people on my interview day had 1:30 time slots though, only 3 or 4 had the 3:30 slot.

Hitting the 8 week mark tomorrow and still no word 🙁

sorry wrong username... I'm longed into my boyfriend's
