Hey Chad,

I called the other day - Mr. Reynolds said that if you interviewed after 9/18 you would find out in Nov because the adcom only meets once at the beginning of the month. I am also thinking thanksgiving is conservative, but better they overestimate than under, right?

Thank you so much for the update! That's what I figured was happening but it's nice to know for sure. 👍

does anyone know how fast they are turning apps around right now? i was complete about the 20th of september and am hoping for an interview soon

Has your application already been placed in the small pool according to the application status page?

nooo i still have the "under review by committee-may take up to 6-8" weeks message. is this necessarily a good/bad thing?

It has only been about 4 weeks since you've been complete. Give it a little bit of time - this is the peak season for secondary applications to be reviewed, and they're probably a little backed up at this point. They'll let you know once you've been reviewed.

Lol, just relax and give it some time. After this message goes away, if your selected, you will be put in a pool of applicants that they use to select individuals for interview so it could be quite some time before you hear anything. This is peak time as Chad said, so you may not hear anything for at least 8 weeks.

Has anyone seen, or are you a hot asian girl who interviewed here 1-2 weeks ago?

i have been complete just over 8 weeks and still have that complete message. is it time to email/call or am i already likely rejected?

everyone who hasn't had an invite is in the same boat, it's just a hold.

Has anyone been accepted? Or rejected? Anything other than waitlist??

I have been wondering the same thing myself. Even though SDN is a small self-selecting sample of the total applicant population, I haven't seen any accepts around here. As someone placed on the waitlist on 10/15, I am dying to get off, as it is my top choice. I have this desperate delusional theory that they are a little behind schedule on accepting people and so they waitlisted everyone until they can get caught up. I have no evidence on which to base this claim, it is just something I like to think so that I can have a sliver of hope to get off the waitlist.

No, that person still has the complete/under preliminary review message, not the "pool of applicants" message.

Does that mean I should be expecting a rejection soon? or will they put people on hold for the "pool of applicants?" I was complete 8/16.

I don't think you can tell based only on the passage of time... maybe shoot them an email? On the positive side, they have already rejected some people pre-interview so it's not like they are waiting for a future date to start sending out rejections.

I'm in the same boat. I really hope it's not a soon-to-be rejection. I did my undergrad in Vermont and I want an interview/acceptance there so badly. I'm secretly hoping I'm on hold because they want to wait for my January MCAT re-take (they don't officially take January scores) before they reject me.

It finally happened! After 8 weeks of being complete, I was small pooled. I hope I get an interview out of it. UVM is my top choice and I'll be incredibly bummed if it doesn't pan out.

hey all... I was complete for over two months and just received an interview invite last friday... be patient, it'll come. Good luck to all of you.

Does anyone know if they have rejected anyone this year before they place people in the small pool

Yes, they have. Didn't send any sort of email either, just a post-interview rejection on the status page.

Dear <Raryn>:

We have reviewed your application and regret to inform you that we cannot act favorably on your request for admission.

The University of Vermont College of Medicine received a large number of applications this year but has a very limited number of places in the first year class. It is necessary for us to make a decision based on the careful review of the complete application file.

You may wish to consult with your pre-medical advisor or career counselor for assistance in evaluation of your file and the appropriate next steps.

We appreciate your interest in the University of Vermont College of Medicine and wish you the best in the future.

8 weeks! That's so long, I'm only pushing 5 weeks. I'm going to go crazy waiting another 3 weeks.

Yay! I got the "within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended" message. I'm just SO glad not to get rejected (right away) by a school, at this point. It's like dating... at least I didn't get rebuffed right away. It makes I got time to work my charms....:hardy:

hey unsung, was this message via email or just your status page?

it's within the status page. I hate to burst the bubble though, I haven't heard from anyone here being rejected before the interview this year. We have all been placed into the pool of applicants.

for those of you who were small pooled today, when were you complete?

I checked my status page today, and I got the same message about small pool. It seems like a pre-interview hold to me since there's probably another "pool of applicants from which an interview WILL (not may) be extended". So I'm not very happy with this status...but oh well, better than rejection I guess.

I was complete end of August-beginning of September.

Since MSAR says that the class size is 115, that's probably the total number of ACCEPTANCES granted.

so some (i.e. more desirable) people do get interviews straight out of the "preliminary" review process without first going into the small pool? I was complete around the same time as you.

I think they invite some people straight from the screening process, and then potential maybes are placed into "small pool," but I might be wrong.

I was invited straight from the screening process, was never placed in a pool of applicants. But I am wait-listed now post-interview, ha.

I was small pooled then invited for an interview on the same day. I think they small pool everyone. Some people may just have not checked their status in time to catch the small pool notification.

I'm a reapplicant and last year I was rejected from UVM pre-interview WITHOUT being placed in the "pool" and that's why I'm personally excited by it. I know it's not a big deal and is more like a hold than anything else but for me it's one step closer than I was last year and that means a lot.

😀

AHhh!!! I just found out I got an interview via status page!!!!! They're going to email me in the next few days with details and how to schedule!!!! I'm so excited. UVM is my top choice and being OOS I didn't think I had a shot!!! AHHHHHH so excited!!!

What hotels have people been staying at? I just called the Hilton, but they apparently don't have a special medical student rate, even though the UVM website says they do.

Definitely stay at the Sheraton. They have a rate so it's $99 for the night and they have a shuttle there in the morning. Even if you're driving it's like 1/2 mile from the campus. Great rooms too!!

I found the same thing (although they tried to tell me $150 was a "special" rate). The Lang House was where I stayed, it was beautiful. If they ask you if you want a particular room, go for the garden room, huge whirlpool tub. $90

They do, but the guy who picks up the phone is clueless. If you stay there, just ask when you check in, and the hilton will drop you down to the lower rate.

I think the # for reservations is some hilton headquarters somewhere, and they just don't know about the special rate. The shuttle is quite convenient too...

OOS applicant.....subpar MCAT and GPA...complete in late August...status changed to the hold about 2 weeks ago.

Call the Hilton back and ask to be transferred to reservations. Then tell them you are interviewing at UVM for medical school and you were informed that there is a special rate. I was able to get a really nice room for under $90 (the rate was $82 + tax). There is also a shuttle that picks you up from the airport (call them using the courtesy phones in the baggage claim area to pick you up) and they'll take you to the medical school the morning of your interview.

If you end up staying there, try to talk to Alan about getting to the interview in the morning. He's one of the shuttle bus drivers and knows a lot more about helping interviewees than the front desk does.

I actually tried to get a hilton room back in Sept shortly after you posted that you'd gotten your room - I was on the phone for about 30 min with both central reservations and the hotel in Burlington before I was finally convinced that they truly weren't offering that rate. No one knew about it, and they couldn't find it in the system. Of course I don't know if something just went wrong for me, but if they are offering it, they definitely don't make it easy to find. I definitely would NOT recommend making the reservation anyway and then asking them about the rate when you check-in - their base price is quite high and you could end up getting really screwed. I was like "but....but....I know someone who just made this reservation!" and heard a lot of "I'm sorry Miss, don't know what to tell you"s 🙁

It turned out better than fine though, since the Lang House was great. There's no shuttle though (I had a car). It's about .5 miles walking from the healthcare center. And a free full super yummy breakfast is included, no continental crap.

Wow, that's really too bad... Sorry it didn't work out for you. 😳 I really enjoyed staying at the Hilton and it was cheap. Good luck, guys!

for the people who got waitlisted or rejected post-interview, what did your status page say? mine said all that stuff about "we hope you enjoyed your interview blah blah" but now it says this:

"Your file has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. We will be contacting you shortly regarding the status of your application."

i'm scared!!

When did you interview? If you don't mind me asking.

I had this message, too, and it changed to a waitlist message about 2 days later. I don't think anyone has been accepted or rejected yet, only waitlisted.

Not necessarily. It simply means that a decision will be revealed to you shortly (be it rejection, waitlist, or acceptance).

is this from personal experience? i mean, obviously it could be any of the 3 just reading it, but sometimes, from previous years, it means certain things.

I had that message for a month before getting an interview invite. Others had it for a week or so before getting an interview. So, I think it's just a "hold-like" message.
