I've noticed that the number of people that have posted status change for interview invites have slowed down considerably. It used to be like twice a week people would post invites and sometimes on Saturdays. I guess VCU is slowing down on invites now. 🙁

Yeah. Makes me sad. But, you know, maybe only the early applicants and great numbers are the ones posting on SDN. I hope we just don't have a representative sample size here. I've got a hold message, and I'm really hoping to hear something in the next few weeks...

i'm sorry goone2524 🙁 meh, i don't know we don't really know where were are. people have gotten invites with ALL of the different messages. just got to hope for the best. i'm getting impatient though too

i have a hold.. but about the slowing down of interview invites -- i interviewed at another school last week and they said their invites/looking over applications would slow down over the next few weeks because of the thanksgiving and christmas breaks. so this might be the case for VCU too...

I've read some about people saying VCU's already booked interviews up until March. I just was phoned today and offered a time in early December. My application went in just over a month ago so if you are still waiting there is still hope.

I was complete since mid-September (late, yes I know) but I still haven't even gotten a review yet...I know someone who just got an interview invite for the beginning of March today but I only have one interview at this point.

This sucks. Its been 2 months!!

Hey everyone -- I interviewed 11/11 and received an update today (12/01), for anyone keeping track. The wait continues!

The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 15, December 15, February 1, and March 15.

You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in mid-March, or to notify you that the Committee will no longer be considering your file.

We thank you for your interest in our school.

I got the same email and considered it to mean that I have been placed on the waiting list. Inappropriate interpretation?

I think they are just informing us that we have been presented to the committee and assigned our priority score. They set a cut off at each of the acceptance release dates and if your score makes the cut then you get an acceptance. Otherwise, your status won't change anymore, well until you get waitlisted or rejected.

bingo

I also called the admissions office the other day and got the same response. Hopefully we will be presented before the December decision. I wonder if we have the same interviewer?????

you know... I was thinking the exact same thing (that we have the same interviewer). I know that the committee meets every Monday, so hopefully we'll be presented soon. But it's going to be torture to have to wait until Jan!!! even though we interviewed early Oct. Anyways... good luck to you!!

So I finally got the infamous "MAY" message after deciding in October to add VCU. Does this bode well for my chances? I'm OOS,31,3.95 cgpa and bcpm.

Hmm. It sounds promising, but it's also late in the season. The only experience I know is my own, and I was invited for an interview pretty early (August) with the "MAY" message. You can check my mdapps for stats. Your GPA and MCAT are great though. Why did you add VCU so late? Were you hoping for other acceptances and it didn't happen, or did you just decide that VCU would be perfect? Just curious 🙂

A good question would be: Has anyone had the "MAY" message for a really long time and NOT been invited for interview?? Long time= >8 weeks

me. 'may' message on 10/13 🙁

awww 🙁 But only been 6 weeks. They are SO busy at this point in the process, that this is not surprising. There is so much more time to go! :luck:

It was a combination of liking the school and a lack of OOS-friendly schools on my list. I already interviewed at my state schools and one other, but nothing else so far. I wish VCU was in my initial batch.

lol. And apparently..I can't write! (see my last post; two grammatical errors)

I got the "may" message on Monday, and received an interview invite this morning. I am applying MD/PhD, and I don't know if the process works differently for MD/PhD applicants. Good luck!

Ugh. I've been complete since 9/15 and still nothing - 31 with 3.85 cGPA, OOS. Boo.

That's great! There could be hope, then.

I got the "very interested" message, which explicitly says they're trying to interview everyone at my priority score as quickly as possible, almost 6 weeks ago, and I still haven't received an invite. I think I either fell through the cracks, or they're just REALLY slow. I'll give them a call some time soon.

I don't think anyone has it worse than me in this forum, as far as the STATUS page is concerned. I've been on hold for pre-interview since 08/15 with the message: "The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further." I don't know what my chances are for getting an interview this late in the game

same message but since July 22nd 🙁

Are you In State or OOS? I'm OOS here in California. I heard that OOS applicants have the same chance as In State applicants. Is that true?

That is not true. Just take a look at the MSAR to see the odds from last year.

Last application cycle I had the same exact message until January 30th when I received an interview invite and scheduled an interview for the 3rd week in February. Don't lose hope yet. Ultimatley, I was placed on a waitlist and never made it off. However, this year I interviewed in October and am very hopeful.

Ugh, I don't think I can wait until the next notification date, which is in 11 days. If I have to wait until Feb or March (or later) to hear something, I'll implode from the agony!

Amazingly, you get used to it. I interviewed last year on 12/5 and had to wait until 2/1 to hear. It seemed an impossible wait at first and then it just flew by! Good luck to everyone. 👍

I understand you're pain. I've been waiting since the 3rd week in October. The thought of receiving a status update on 12/15 crosses my mind one hundred times a day.

lol same here, interviewed on oct 20th, waiting for dec 15 has felt like forever, just 10 days away though

It's true, you do get used to it. My interview was October 2nd and I wasn't reviewed in time for the Oct 15 notification date. The anxiety only hits me occasionally now 🙄

This seems to be the running theme of the process (MCAT, applying, med school, residency, etc.) After a while you start to care less and less, to the point that when something good comes, it just ends up being anticlimactic.

yea for some reason I thought the next notification after dec 15 was in january 15, but I guess it's in feb!! I interviewed Oct 9... but my interviewer still hasn't made it to a meeting to present me. i can't even imagine waiting until feb to hear! 😱😱

Hmm, have you tried calling them? They're pretty nice on the phone and should be able to give you details. I interviewed in early Nov. and had to wait 2 weeks, but 2 months is a bit much. In any case, this shouldn't have any effect on you getting accepted, since it's based on priority score. It's just the time factor that sucks!

That sums up exactly how I feel about this entire process. The more I wait, the less I care! I think it's a good thing in one sense because I'm not worrying nearly as much as I did back in the summer, but at the same time, my apathy is taking some of the joy out of my successes. 😎

Yea, I actually just called them. The receptionist is super nice, but she only told me that they're backed up. It's weird though because my interviewer hasn't been able to turn in my interview report, so she said that it shows up on the computer with the interview not being completed. So when I check my status page it just shows.. "Congratulations you're interview is scheduled on Oct 9". I was getting pretty anxious, so I decided to email Dr. Whitehurst-Cook to see if she could give me more answers. I wonder if my interviewer forgot about me...

For anyone who has interviewed when did your day end? Also about how long did it take to get from the school to the airport? I have a morning interview and then it looks as if the tour ends at 1:45, are you then free to leave after the tour? My flight leaves at 3:45; for people who have been to Richmond do you think that is enough time to get from the school to my gate?

I also interviewed in the morning. I think the tour ended earlier than that and we were free to go right afterword. Richmond airport is pretty small and there was NO traffic, so I had no problem getting to the airport in time.

That should be plenty of time. The airport is only ~15-20 minutes away from the school and it is a small airport so security is quick.

so i got the message:

"The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

from looking at this thread, that seems to be a pretty ambiguous msg, since some ppl have gotten interviews quickly with it and some haven't heard anything for months....? how does it "rank" among all of the different msgs you can get pre-interview??

to my knowledge, which could be wrong, this is the order of scores (1 being the best, 5 being the worst):
1. very interested
2. may
3. consider file further
4. committee
5. rejected
but other factors also seem to affect it.
agree/disagree?

I'm kind of puzzled. I got a differently worded message that seems to indicate ~ the same as the message you got:

"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail."

Wonder what it means? 😕

Is there any way to request an earlier interview date? 2/4 is just too far away!
