So, after going back and reading the entire thread, it looks like this is a not so promising hold message. I am in state and have a 3.3/31R

What are my chances of getting an interview?

I got that message and I got accepted on 10/15. I'm not sure how much stake you should put in those messages. None of them seem to lead to a definitive outcome.

Has anyone who submitted their application (and had it marked complete in late September) received a status update? Mine is still sitting at "Complete", I'm hoping to receive one of those cryptic messages soon so that I have a chance of interviewing before all of the interview dates are filled.

My status finally changed. I have been complete since August 8th! I'm out of state though, so I guess that's why my file seemed very low priority! Anyway, I'm excited just to see something new.

Wow, since August 8th! Looks like I might be in for quite a long wait. Time to work on my patience.

what is the MAY message. Is it the one where it says "The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further."

I do not like the sound of that message. I was really hoping good things from VCU from my stats and ECs.

it has the word MAY, in capital letters saying they would like to interview you but can't guarantee everyone at your priority score will get an interview.

Yeah, sometimes its best just to put it out of your mind for a while

hey, everyone! 🙂 i just got an interview invite, after receiving this message earlier this month.

about the interview dates, there were no more than 2 listings for January, 4 for Februrary, and 1 for March - there were several time slots for each date.

good luck! :luck:

WOW. THere were no slots in January when I got an invite. I wonder if people cancelled or they opened up new slots.

They are no longer taking reschedule requests FYI. They said they are overwhelmed with applications this year. I'm just happy I got an interview 🙂

got an interview invite yesterday and a couple of dates were open for december and january. good luck everyone👍

People must be canceling because it seemed like all dates/times were available earlier this season.

Hey guys, I got the "file complete" email 8/18 and haven't heard a thing since. My status page still says I'm "going to be reviewed" or whatever - does it always take this long to get ranked?

So, has any OOS who interviewed at VCU in early October called them yet to get a status update ? I guess the next official 6pm status update is scheduled for december but I am curious to see if anyone has been able to find out their status early by calling them.

It completely depends on who your file reviewer is. Some are really really fast and others take quite a long time. Remember, the members of the admissions committee are volunteering their time - they have other duties that take take priority over reviewing applicants' files.

They won't know your status until December 15th, because whether you're accepted or not depends on where you stand among ALL applicants that are reviewed prior to 12/15. So until the remaining applicants from now until 12/15 are reviewed, there's no way to determine whether you will be accepted/waitlisted/rejected.

A true rolling system in a sense. Well its nice to know that. Thanks!

They prolly assign you some kind of score huh? and maybe tally everyone at the end of the day. Well, i guess its wait and watch then..

Yep, it's called a "priority score." It's been discussed in pretty heavy detail in this thread.

I'm in the same boat, complete since 8/16 OOS

I was given the " we are interested in you and MAY want to interview you" message at the end of September, and I got the interview invitation last night. There was 1 date in Nov, 1 in Dec, 2 in Jan, a couple in feb and a couple in Mar. Good Luck to everyone else!!! And don't give up, that MAY message could very well turn into an interview!

I just got the reservation update. That old thread from last year said "this email is pretty straight forward but note it is NOT a rejection. they want to do as it says...review you under a subcommittee blah blah."

so, does VCU actually reject some ppl from the get-to-go or is the worst possible first update this reservation email?

also, do you suggest I do anything about it? send an update letter?

You can call and ask if there is anything specific.

They actually DO reject right off, so you still have a shot.

I was mouthing off about how long VCU was taking, and I checked my email, and I finally have an interview invite! 🙂

They have 1 date in November, 2 in December, and several in the spring semester.

I agree, I have the other hold message, recieved late august, and i'm yet to hear anything else.

The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

Out of Stater here. How long does it take for them to review your file and give you one of these cryptic messages about interviews? I was complete on 9/15 and have not heard anything. I check the page on which I did my secondary (this is the right one?) for a message and don't get anything.

does anyone have the applied/interviewed/accepted stats for VCU. i got the may message on 10/13 and am dying for an interview invite. i just couldn't be patient and called them today and they said i should be hearing some news within the next couple of weeks!??!? so does that mean 2 or 10. haha well i just wanted to know how many get interviewed. thanks

According to U.S. News,

For 2007, 5,664 applied, 734 interviewed, and 410 accepted (184 attended).

Got an interview at 6pm today!! W00t!

An update for those of you who still have the "further" message:

I've had the "our committee would like to consider you further" but we can't offer you an interview yet message since August 18.

It took almost 3 months, but VCU came through! I'm so pumped. Made my weekend.

Hang in there everyone!

What is the proper way to refer to VCU? Is it VCU School of Medicine? Or VCU's MCV? Or just Medical College of Virgina? It seems like the faculty and students refer to the school as MCV.

Technically it is just VCU School of Medicine but as you said, many of the doctors/students still refer to it as MCV.

Instatewaiter is right on. You can either call it VCU School of Medicine or MCV. After all, the employer of the physicians is "MCV Hospitals & Physicians" and the medical school is located on the "MCV Campus," so MCV is basically the same as the medical campus at VCU. I think that all of Richmond still knows it as MCV.

When I was in Richmond, everyone referred to it as MCV. Other med schools also know it as MCV rather than VCU medical school. I think it is only premeds and applicants who call it VCU medical school because it is under that on AMCAS.

I tend to call it MCV because that is the name the community knows-a surprising number of patients have no idea what your talking about if you call it VCU SOM.

This may be a stupid question, but here it goes....I read the instructions for filling out the secondary "If any questions are left unanswered on the Supplemental Application, we will not process your application." The problem is I had to leave a lot of it blank, because it simply did not apply to me. Fortunately, when I went to the verify screen, it filled in most of the blank answers with the default "no." There are a few questions that are left blank: publications (which I have none), prereq courses that I plan to take (I am completely finished with all my prereqs), and the disadvantaged question. Should I go back and fill those out, saying that they do not apply to me? Has anybody submitted and left those blank and still had their file reviewed?

Yet, you have VCU class 2011 in your sign..hmm 😛

Why don't you just put "n/a" in the blanks for the ones that don't apply?
