I received the following message yesterday..."The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

Has anyone been given an interview after this message? There seem to be many variations of this message floating about and just wanted to get all of your opinions. I am OOS 3.43 Cum 3.33 BCPM 33 MCAT. Can I expect an interview?

You definitely have a shot, I know several people on here have gotten interviews with that message. However, it does sound like space is filling up and I don't know how many interviews will go out. Also probably depends on how many people cancel their interviews later in the season.

I've had this message since late july? How do these priority scores work for interviews? So depending on the score you get, you receive a particular message? I emailed the office and they told me that everyone is in a computer line based on your score to get an interview. So how come people who have this same message after I did get an interview before I do. Do the scores vary that much even though we got the same message? 😕

I am sure there are a range of scores that receive each message (given that there are only 4 messages and a range of scores). It probably doesn't depend that much on when you received the message.

hey - for those who have already interviewed (post 10/15 date), what's your status? I thought I've read of people who said their status changed to post-interview hold, but mine is still the "will you fill out the survey" "status." It's been that way although I filled and submitted the survey the day after my interview, which was 2 weeks ago! Does it just mean that my interview hasn't been reviewed yet?

At some point after your file goes to committee, your status will change to reflect that with a hold message.

Hey, I also interviewed at VCU around that time. I remember my interviewer mentioning that ideally, they'd discuss you on the Monday following your interview. However, he also said that later in the season, they tend to get backed up, and it could take several weeks for you to get the "hold" status. So it'll probably take some time, but you'll definitely get reviewed prior to the next notification.

Don't worry, I'm getting really antsy as well, and there's still about 5 wks to go. Not getting that status change at 6:04PM EDT on 12/15 would be catastrophic. Anyway, good luck!

Oh, forgot to mention that I also have that "survey" status, which I hope will change asap.

can someone who has had an interview invite recently tell us roughly how many interview days are left ... just to feed my neuroticism 🙂

I received that status update (though it was in September, after being complete 8/6), and just got an invite today. I'm OOS with a 3.51 Cum, 3.53 BCPM, and 30 MCAT, though I'm also a nontrad (whether it meant anything or not).

As of 9:15p, there were two for January, and I'm not sure what was left for Feb as I didn't look. Sorry for the minimal help...

For any of you that are in the know, how many applicants are usually considered at each weekly meeting? At my interview, there were like 10 or 11 applicants...so if u multiply that by 5 weekdays, then that would be around 50 applicants/week during the busy season. This makes it seem as though each candidate is reviewed and given a a final priority score fairly quickly.

gulp. fingers crossed!

Keep in mind that slots will continue to get dropped. When I got my invite in the middle of October, there were two December days, no January days, and some February and March days.

Well, they don't interview on Fridays, so that's only about 40 applicants a week. I've heard that your interviewee and file reviewer get ~5 minutes to present your file. Then each committee member ranks you and they move on. This would take a meeting of about 200 minutes (~3.5 hours) to get through all 40 applicants, which sounds plausible enough to me.

How long did it take for them to mark you complete after they have received all of your materials? I checked the status page, and it says they have received my supplemental, the fee, my committee packet and my MD/PhD reference form/letter, which is everything; however, they have me marked as incomplete. Should I call them?

I would call. Their admissions staff is really nice and helpful over the phone.

I interviewed on Oct 14th and have not recieved a status update or been asked to fill out the survey. Has anybody else who interviewed around this time in the same boat???? I think it may be time to give the admissions office a call.

For those of you that have been accepted, come join us in the VCU/MCV Class of 2013 thread located in the Allopathic Class Threads forum. Even if you're undecided on which school you'll end up at, it'll be a great place to talk about the merits of the school and get to know your (possible) future classmates!

i have been complete since 8/15 and still no status update or anything. If rejected will that show in the status? I have a 3.7 and 29Q from Cali.

I believe that a rejection will show up in the status. If in doubt, give the admissions office a call.

Hey guys, I'm a new Va resident to this forum and I'm not applying this cycle or next but the one after =P However I was kinda bored tonight and wanted to look into the medical school thing and was wondering which school would be the cheapest overall to attend in Virginia? I thought it'd be VCU with the 12k tuition but I read someone else saying EVMS would be but their tuition is 23k for instate. Anyone know? Also does anyone have any experience with EDing to VCU, does it help your chances or kill your entire application cycle? I mean if you have the grades and a 30 or above MCAT, would it be a good choice if you were absolutely certain you wanted to attend the school?

Thanks a lot to anyone who can help!

I just received:

"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail."

which seems slightly more positive than the "considering further" message.

Does anyone know whether the two messages indicate better/worse priority scores?

Tuition & Fees (In-State for Virginia) for the first year of med school:
VCU: $27,652
EVMS: $25,196
UVA: $32,650

I don't know where you got that $12k figure, but unfortunately we don't get much of a tuition discount here in VA.

As far as EDP at VCU, I haven't heard anything. Sorry.

EVMS is definitely the cheapest to attend in VA. VCU's cost of attendance two years ago was more than $27k. I have no idea how that is possible, but that's what they said.

3.5, 37 from VA, and pre-interview to boot.🙁

I just got the following message from my status page:
The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date.

Could you please tell what is my chance to be invited for an interview?

And congrats for all those be accepted!!!!!!!!!!!

I interviewed on Oct 9th and still haven't received a status update to fill out a survey. I called the admissions office and they said that my interviewer still had not turned in my interview report... so I guess my interviewer is really really busy??? The nice receptionist said that I should get a status update soon, but it worries me that I won't be up for the Dec decision..😱

Yeah, you have a good chance. The email is very positive, I believe it is the most positive one that they send out; I got it a while back, got an interview sometime later (do not remember how long, more than a week and less than a month...but that doesn't matter). I also got an acceptance October 15th, the first day I could have heard anything. So all in all, if you do well in your interview (my interview was awesome, the best one I have had to date), I believe you should be golden. :luck:

Thanks, Schoolsucks.
Congrats on your acceptance!!!!!

Called the office and still haven't been reviewed yet/gotten priority score/rejection...crap.

They're friendly over the phone though, that's a nice change.

Hi does anyone know what's the cutoff for MCAT score for VCU for initial screening?

It's definitely below a 27, since that's what my friend got and he got an interview (and he's 100% priviledged cracker).

Hi does anyone know what's the cutoff for MCAT score for VCU for initial screening?

What was the exact message you received?

the message was (is):

tia for your responses 😍

So, I have an early February interview. Is this really worth going to? I mean, that's pretty late, right? I just hate to go to the trouble and get waitlisted because I'm OOS.

They are almost non rolling, so you still have a decent chance. In fact, that's why I'm still going! They only have 4 acceptance dates and IIRC, they only accept about 100 or so a meeting.

you could drop them my name, and say i would love to go for you, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that

It's definitely worth going especially if you really want to attend VCU or don't have any other acceptances. People are accepted from the last interview weeks every year. And being on the waitlist is a good thing at VCU-there is typically quite a bit of movement. That's how I got in.👍

I don't know; I'm a pretty persuasive guy 😉

well, in that case could you just drop a line mentioning how much bluesmd would like to check out the school and richmond in general 😀

on a more helpful note, or maybe not, is there ANYTHING that you could see at the interview, the students and/or faculty, facilities, surrounding area, curriculum, that would make you choose VCU over your current acceptances. if possible, then check it out. if you are pretty much in love with one of them (wake forest?) then use the money to treat yourself for getting into med school. congrats on your acceptances and let us know what you decide

I'm probably going to make that interview. I've already said "no thank you" to one school, and I'm probably going to let my two New York interviews go just because they're so far away. VCU looks like a great school, and I think I'll throw some more money at it and see what happens. 🙂

But I will do my best for you, bluesmd. Maybe you won't even have to interview 😀

haha, thanks man, that would be really SWEET, just tell them to send my acceptance letter asap!

by the two NY ones do you mean URoch and NYMC? I would like that URoch one except they already REJECTED me! check the the URoch thread to see what happened. 👎 i better have more luck :luck: with VCU

I also called the admissions office the other day and got the same response. Hopefully we will be presented before the December decision. I wonder if we have the same interviewer?????

I interviewed in early November and received a status change exactly two weeks later stating that my file "was placed on hold" and that they would "be making offers in Dec, Jan, Feb, and March." I guess it just depends on the schedule of the interviewer.
