cho, unfortunately, i don't think updates will help at this point. from the login page:
The waitlist will be active up to August 10, 2009. Your committee rank is determined by the committee vote and can not be changed. At this time there is nothing else that can be done to change committee ranks.
probably can't hurt, but it doesn't look like it would help, either, beyond demonstrating continued interest. and if you're already in contact with Dr. WC, they know you're still interested. good luck to everyone waiting! :luck:

I am also on the alternate list with an acceptance at a DO. When I asked Dr. WC how this may or may not accept my alternate list status, she said that it's just a way to play fair with allopathic schools. My guess is that they don't have access to AACOMAS information. At this point for me, it's not about MD vs. DO. I just really liked VCU so much better.

Like you Maimonides, the DO program starts August 3rd. If I'm accepted to VCU after that, I don't even know how I'm going to handle the quick transition (housing, moving, traveling, etc.). Good luck!

What DO school was it? I withdrew last week and just sent in my fast track form to vcu today.

long time reader, first time poster...OOS female, still waiting. was told (back in may ish) I was in the top 1/4. Now who knows...about to email WC and see what info I can get out of her.

How did you find out you're in the top 1/4 of the waitlist? WC keeps ignoring my questions about what percentage I may be in.

It was back around May 15 when I first found out I was on the list. I haven't heard back from my most recent request about my rank. However, I find that you have to word yor questions to her very carefully. Look back at revious posts to see what people asked/ got responses on. I have come to the conclusion that she never uses and real numbers, always keeps things soft. She has also been more responsive to me when I ask specific questions, especially a yes/no type.

Touro-NV. What's the fast track form? I'm not sure how that works.
The fast track form is for the CERT/ master program. You basically self report all the vital info to speed up the process and they can assess your chances of gettting in or even accept you based on it-crazy I know, something to actuall make our lives a little bit easier. The woman I spoke with said that if you are on the waitlist for mcv already, chances are the fast track could be adequate for them.:xf:

Hey I was wondering if someone is looking for a roommate. I did my Bachelors at VCU and I am currently living outside Richmond 20 minutes away from the campus. I am looking for an apt closer to mcv and was hoping that someone would share a two bedroom apt. I am very familiar with the area and I can do all the work.
I am 25 yr old female and would like someone who can keep things clutter free and tidy but not obsessively so. I love to read, watch movies and basically hang out. I don't want a party animal though since I am serious when it comes to studying. Non smoking please.
Leave me a message if you are interested.

Is this a program that someone in admissions suggested to you? Does being on the wait list pretty much give you a guaranteed acceptance to the CERT/masters program? How did you come about the decision to withdraw from the DO program and wait another year? Sorry for all the questions, but this is the first I heard of the CERT program. I just want to know about any opportunity that could potentially increase my chances for getting into VCU. Thanks!

So I've been reading the past VCU Waitlist threads and just realized nka1985 is AWESOME! She's been updating anything and everything from Dr.WC and although it was two years ago, still is informative!
Hoping to share my in-state waiting agony with y'all 🙂
I emailed her last week and this week...
No movement "yet" with the in-state list 🙁
Has anyone heard anything?!?

Did any waitlister hear anything this week?
Silence is slowly killing me...:bang:

Just to let you guys know, my friend got accepted from the waitlist today. (Wed, 6/24)

Does anyone know the last date someone got accepted off the waitlist last year?

I heard from one of my firends that someone got in on the last day before the Orientation Day and got some financial aid as well!

Ah...:xf::luck::xf::luck::xf::luck::xf:

+pissed+Let's move it in-state waitlist! Let's move!!

OOS - Cali
Man, what is up with these Cali OOS's infiltrating Virginia med schools?

That would rock my world if it happened to me because I am currently holding onto zero acceptances and I really like VCU. With that being said, for people in the same boat as me, I believe it is best to psychologically move on and assume you won't get in (assuming you've exhausted your options of LOI's and updates). For the upcoming year, I am following up with my plan B (the one I thought I would never have to make), but if I find out I get accepted off the waitlist, then as I said, it would be a supreme surprise.

I am an in-state, male.

Btw, when I corresponded with Dr. WHC around when VCU formed the waitlist, she told me that "my position on the WL was reached during last year's app cycle."

Then about a month ago, I asked her for an update of my chances, and she said, "The Virginia list is moving slower at this point than usual, so predictions are difficult." (May 30th)

Just thought I'd share. Peace.

My brother got accepted of the wait list today. He has another acceptance which he will give up. OOS

nka1985, do you have any insider news for us still waiting? (I'm OOS female btw)

Hello fellow instate waiters!
Good to know that I'm not the only one!😀

Ahh..another day...empty inbox...🙁

Since VCU gives 2 weeks to debate over their offer, maybe we should hear something next week?!?!? :xf::xf::xf::xf:

Sorry, but I have nothing new to share. Since Step 1 is done I don't have to be on campus until the end of July so I'm just enjoying my break before M3.

Anyone today? This week?
Does anyone know if Dr.WC is out of town?
Ahhh:scared:

*sigh*
Keeping my :xf: for next week! Unless VCU gives out offers on Sundays😀

No prob abt the questions...thats why I'm on here...to ask questions and get any info I can. Any CERT/MS program will increase your chances of getting in anywhere, because you will make yourself a more competitive applicant- you dont have to do it at the specific school you hope to get into. Some programs, like Temple, have guarenteed acceptance into their MD program if you do well enough in their masters program. VCU just guarentees an interview with them if you perform at a certain level. There are programs like this at lots of medical schools (even a couple DO schools have them to).
I applied to DO school after all my allopathic ones were done, just decided to do it for backup, because last year at this time, I thought, I'm going somewhere next year, I dont want to apply again. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, when I was starting to have to make arrangement to go to the DO school in NY, and I was freaking out. I know myself well and I was just so stressed out and anxious, and not excited, I knew things just were not right. So I had to have a serious "talk" with myself. I thought about how I would feel 10 years from now being a DO, and basically, I just couldnt be sure that I would be satisfied, or happy. I have wanted to be a doctor, MD, my whole life, and who I am is very much wrapped up in that, and for me, if I had gone to DO school, I would have been settling. I dont think that DO's are "lesser" than MD's, and in fact, I very much identify with the osteopathic philosophy. I also have always wanted to go into a surgical specialty, and although you can get those residencies as a DO, it's harder, but even if I got one, I know I would never really be satisfied. What the future holds has always helped drive me to work hard, and I am very picky and critical of myself. Basically, I just had to shut out all the chatter and stress and oppinions of others that I had in my head and listen to my GUT, and the choice was clear.
If you are at all hesitant about going to DO school, dont. The 4 years of school, MD or DO, are rediculously hard and a huge investment in so many ways. I'm sure that you thought long and hard about the decision to apply to medical school, and you need to be just as sure about DO or MD, especially if this is your first try. If I applied to allopathic school 3 times and still didnt get in, then I'd probably reconsider DO, or maybe be a PA.
In short...check in with yourself, you know what to do.
And yes, I am aware that I cant spell, lol.

Dalki: So according to the stats you listed from FB, there are 6 spots left. And it's still those 6:04pm emails? They aren't calling yet? Not sure if you said what you're doing if you dont get in, but it's easier to just ask you than scan through all the old posts and look lol......so what are you doing if you dont get in? Glad to know I'm not the only one still hangin' on.

I know..sure feels like it's just us two in here 😛
I've gone through the VCU Postbac and done well...
Currently I'm wrapping up my thesis..any day now!

This is my first time applying..
So even though I hate to retake the MCAT for the third time, if I don't get in by the end of July..definitely will be retaking that monster.

Bunch of my friends (IS) who went through this program got in around this time last year...and it was via 6:04pm emails.

I think you get a call near the end of July.

If you have any more questions about the postbac, just PM me!

Again :xf::luck::xf::luck::xf::luck: !!! times infinity!!! 😀

i'm still waiting also. has anybody had any luck corresponding with Dr. WC recently?

Hey!
I talked to her last week and this past weekend.
(I know... not a stalker... I'll lighten up on the emails)

Are you OOS? IS? F? M? 🙂

So what did Dr. WHC say? Do share, indeed.

OOS WL is moving faster than the IS WL.
I know..nothing new!

Another day for :luck::xf::luck::xf:

P.S. IS is moving...IS Female just got in yesterday!

If anybody have Info about housing near VCU campus, walking distance and safe to walk , I will appreciate if you share info. with me.

Thanks

Everything within walking distance of MCV is safely walkable. Whether a particular neighborhood is considered "safe" is another story. There are many changing areas near the school that still have problems with violent crimes, primarily late at night. During the day, I consider most places near the school to be safe. At night, things change.

This applies to the rest of the city, too. Many people live in the Fan, which is not walkable, but you can get to school by bike or bus from there. The fan is generally safe, but neighborhoods change quickly from street to street. You need to look at specific places and then inquire about those specific areas. I'd be happy to help anyone who has specific questions.

Thank you for quick reply. If you have any specific name of Apt. building and/or phone number, I will appreciate

I guess OOS WL isn't moving much either 🙁
I'm still :xf: (IS, Female)

I am still waiting with the rest of you guys :xf: (OOS, Female)

I really don't want to carry out plan B 🙁

Good luck everyone. There won't be a lot of waitlist movement at this time of year but there are usually a few spots that open up. I didn't get accepted until July 18th the year I applied.
