Nope. I also submitted my paper portion of the secondary almost two weeks ago and and haven't heard anything.

nvm, I just got a confirmation for the online form. I submitted it Sept. 1st.
It says:

We have received your online secondary application and will be awaiting your
printed materials to continue the application process.
Thank you,
Beth Ann McCormick

I think in their secondary invite email they said they weren't going to send email updates for the paper portion

amp3r5and, did you ever figure this out?? My employer is on maternity leave till october!

so about the question of whether a separate letter for communication LOR is needed if there's one already in our committee packet, the lady email me back after I already mailed out the LOR but here's what she said:

You do not need a new letter you can use the one in the VirtualEval packet.
Thank you,
Beth Ann McCormick

----
I think you still need to mail in the form and the actual letter though even if it's the same one online

me three! maybe they're sending them in groups.

Not having all of your recommendation letters doesn't hold up your file, does it? The website made it sound like you don't have to get your letters in right away....

I don't know....for most schools, even if there's no two-week deadline for LORs, they still don't review your file until they receive them. They just wouldn't throw it away if it's more than 2 weeks, but I'm just guessing.

We received your secondary application materials and will be sending you a letter of interview within a few weeks.

really does sound like an interview. CONGRATS!!

See, the reason I'm asking if because of their response when they send you the supplemental application. It says:

"Please read through the instructions carefully and our deadline is TWO WEEKS (postmarked) from receipt of this email (which does not include the recommendation letters). You will receive a confirmation after receipt of your online secondary application within two weeks of submittal by email. The instructions for recommendation letters have raised many questions which can be clarified as such: we will accept committee letters/VirtualEval/Interfolio/pre-med advising packets, etc. without forms; we would prefer to have communication letters from outside sources, other than professors, and these should have the communication forms attached; and we do require the waiver form be attached to any individual letters sent along with the scoring form. We will not contact you after receipt of your secondary materials. The only confirmation you will receive is a letter regarding your !
interview or a letter of rejection. Only contact me regarding receipt of recommendation letters after you have received an interview letter which has a section marked for missing information."

The part I highlighted in red is what makes me think that they'd invite you to interview based on everything else you've sent in, and then after they've decided they want to grant you an interview, they'd tell u ur missing your recommendations and once you do that you'd be fine. But I don't know. Does anyone actually know for sure?

Has anyone gotten an interview invite for WVU yet? I received an invite and it is set for Wednesday, Oct 1.

Are you in-state or OOS? and did you get it through e-mail or snail mail? also would you mind sharing ur stats?

I am an in-state applicant. I originally applied as early decision applicant. Their criteria are a 3.5 and at least 8's on the MCAT sub-sections. My GPA turned out to be 3.497 and AMCAS truncated it to a 3.49 rather than round to 3.5. Also, I got 9/7/10 on the MCAT....talk about a day late and a buck short. Also, my invite came by snail mail.

Anyway, Is anyone an early decision applicant? If so, when do you have your interviews?

I saw that amp3r5and listed in the Interview Invitation thread that he received an invite for 10/3, but he'll have to reschedule.

And his came by snail mail, by the way.

yep. rescheduled for 10/6 (tough. short on dates apparently?)
i just wish they'd have given more than a week's notice. that's tough to plan around.

what is a typical interview day like there? I heard you have to decide where you will do the third and fourth year clinical rotations. Also, if you are not early decisin how long after the interview do you get notified of the result?

bump....

also, does anyone know how long it takes to make a decision after interview?

Anyone from VA going up for an interview on 10/16? I would soooo love to find someone to carpool with...with all these apps, I can't afford gas...haha!
I'm coming from Richmond....

And anyone who could offer me any tips that would be great. To prepare so far, I'm reading books on Medical Ethics and Healthcare policy, reviewing my app,and going to review their website more. Does anyone know if they ask a lot about current events?

Has anyone heard anything from WVU about acceptance/rejection/waitlist decisions yet? I interviewed before the 15th and have been anxiously waiting for any kind of news.

Also, has anyone called lately? I called a few days ago to see if the admissions lady would let any info slip about the adcom's decision on my application but she ended up getting a little snappy...I'm trying to figure out if she was snappy because she was annoyed that I called before the 15th or because I have a rejection/waitlist and she is trying to avoid telling me directly. Man, I hate the waiting process, it makes me overthink everything!! :scared:

Anyway, I'm hoping to hear something soon!

I interviewed before the 15th as well and have yet to hear anything. I think they said it could take up to two weeks after your interview before they contacted you.

They emphasized this with my group of interviewees quite a bit so I sorta figured that they would get annoyed if we called before the two weeks were up. So I wouldn't worry too much about the admissions lady getting snappy with you indicating that you got rejected or anything. They seemed to REALLY not want us to contact them until at least a couple weeks after our interview.👍

I really liked the school a lot and hope to hear some good news from them soon! Good luck! 🙂

Had my interview on Oct. 9. There were no WV residents. A few VA, a few PA, NC, and I'm a MD resident. Pretty easy interview, no tough ethical questions. It was mostly talking about your experiences.

Admissions process works like this:
They meet every Tuesday, your interviewers are like your advocates. They don't accept you on the first Tuesday that you are considered and you are put on the hold list, which is just in alphabetical order. They will start accepting you on the second time through. Usually by the 4th Tuesday they will either accept you or reject you.

People thinking of not doing the secondary, I would advise against it because they don't send the secondary to everyone. You have already made it passed the first cut if you are given the secondary and you have a much better chance of getting an interview than another random school.

Also, does anyone know when they started sending out acceptances last year? I only saw one person on last year's acceptance thread and they were accepted in January.

Hey everyone,

Is anyone interviewing November 7th? I just received my interview invite today. Any words of wisdom from previous interviewees? Does West Virginia have any sort of agreement about working for X number of years in the state after residency if accepted?

I am OOS (30P, 3.5 undergrad, 3.91 SMP) from Ohio.

Well, I received a letter yesterday informing me that I had been rejected.🙁

I'm upset, but not as much as I thought I would be. I still have another interview to go, and I'm also waiting for a decision from another school. I was surprised to get an interview in the first place, since I'm a nontrad who did not do so hot the first time I attended school. They hit me pretty hard on that during the interview.

It was a great school and everyone was very friendly. Good luck to everyone else!! :luck::luck:

Waiting was killing me so I called today and I am waitlisted. Great more waiting, which sucks because I really liked the school.

Just got a letter from WVU today and was accepted!! It feels so great especially since I was flat out rejected last year!!

Good luck to the rest of you and I hope to see some of you all next year!!

Hey everyone, I just received an interview from WVU and cannot stay with the medstay program because they all have tests the day of my interview 🙁, being a college student on a really tight budget and out of state can anyone that stayed at a hotel there tell me one that is really close or a cheap one and how you then got to the interview? Any help would be great, good luck to everyone!!!

I used expedia and compared with the list they gave me. I ended up getting a room for $79 dollars, but it was a bit too far to walk to the interview, especially if you have to carry all of your stuff. If you are flying in, it is probably trickier since I don't remember seeing any cabs

When were your interviews and would you mind telling your stats? I interviewed on Oct 16th and haven't heard yet and am dying to know!!! Should I call or still too soon...its officially 2 weeks today.

They will accept you off the waitlist in the next couple weeks if you climb to the top of their numerical rankings.

After the next couple weeks you are waitlisted "permanently" (Untill May).

Hey alicat!

I actually talked to one of my interviewers today about what I can do to improve my application if I need to reapply next year. (I still have another interview on Monday and am waiting on a decision from my no. 1 choice school.)

Like I mentioned I'm a nontraditional applicant who didn't take school seriously the first time I attended so I don't have the best GPA. Apparently this is one reason why they didn't accept me this year. I had some interesting life experiences etc. that somewhat helped my application. Though they realize that I have done quite well since returning to school they want to see how I do in the remainder of my classes.

I also recieved a 27 on the MCAT which was lower than my practice test average by a few points. A bit of a bummer but I hadn't taken physics II at the time and it showed: 10VR 7PS 10. That 7 hurt me quite a bit. They questioned it during the interview and it was suggested to me that I should definately retake it before applying again.

Mine is a "special" case (I guess 😳) so I'm not sure how much any of this will help you. I hope you hear some good news soon! 👍

Oh ... and my interview date was 10/10/08 and I'm instate.

Hey all

I just had my interview today, and woah--I really do like the school! Everyone seemed to be having a great time, everyone was very hospitable, and the experience overall was extremely pleasant. Best part of it: all the med students, pharmacy students, nursing students, PT/OT students, etc are all sharing the same facilities. I.e., a lot of young people on campus studying something health-related.

A cute area, too. WVU went from literally the bottom of my list to one of my top choices. I'm very excited about it!

Interview was laid back, stress-free.

Best of luck to everyone applying!

so does this mean they're only offering interviews till the next few weeks and if we dont' get an interview invite, we don't have much of a chance?

No, sorry for being ambiguous. This is after you interview. You interview and you are automatically put on a waitlist (everybody). After two weeks if you are voted off then you will be accepted, if not you stay on. You can be voted off the waitlist for four or five weeks after your interview, after that you stay on the waitlist permanently (until May). At least, that is kind of how the lady explained it.

They give interviews through April like everyone esle. 👍

I took the MCAT twice over the summer, and 4 times in total. I increased my score up to 9 points if you want take the best scores from each section. My fourth and final attempt was 10ps/9vr/9bs/O however on the previous MCAT I got a 10 on BS. I was also a second yr applicant and a WV resident. My sGPA and cGPA was 3.49 from a well respected instate private college. I have several EC's like fraternity and honoraries. Also, I had a lot of volunteer work but not much along the lines of shadowing or research. Also, I prepared a lot for the interview. All in all, I am def not up to the typical SDN applicant when it comes to strength of application but I guess it was good enough!🙂
I like to think that I did great on selling myself in the interview...but theres no way to know that for sure. I always wonder if the interview is just there to make sure they dont accept nut jobs or if they actually matter in admissions at all.

I agree, WVU seems to be greatly under-rated as a medical school. They command a wide referal base for most of WV and parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland. I think it allows students for a lot of oppurtunity to see an array of cases. Also, I like the smallish-medium sized school atmoshere with about 110 new students each yr. I really am excited to start and hope the best of luck to you all! :luck::luck:

Got my official "You are now stuck on the waitlist for months" letter, kinda disappointing. I'm hoping it's because they want to accept all possible in-state students before going with out of state.

Just got my interview invites. WVU sent the snail mail to a wrong address at first. Can anyone give me some pros and cons about the school? I am deciding if I should go to the interview.

I really liked it. Very nice and new facilities. Very friendly people (staff, students, doctors). Seemed to have a good balance of clinical and research. It's a pretty rural area, which is good or bad depending on your personal preference. They do take a lot of instate applicants. Some stats I saw from last year were that like 99% of instate interviews were accepted and 23% of out-of-state were accepted. Other pros, the cost of living in the area is pretty low, so even paying OOS tuition, the overall cost is lower than many places. I might be biased because I was hoping to get accepted and I'm currently waitlisted. If you go and don't like it, can you do me a favor and blow the interview to increase my chances?

I don't think i will go to the interview. since i have an acceptance to a better school with cheaper tuition. Good luck with WVU.

Received my interview invite today. I will be there January 14th. I really did not expect it, but am happy that I got it.

I got accepted to WVU!

I had my interview mid-November, and it really is NOTHING to fret about. It's a 2-on-1 (an MS4 and a faculty member), and they each have a sheet in front of them with notes they took about your application (if you peek at it, you can see your GPA, MCAT, ECs, etc.) A few things to note if you have an interview:

First, you have to decide, pre-interview in the waiting room, where you want to do your rotations. You have to rank, in order of preference, between Charleston, Morgantown, Eastern Rural WV, or No Preference. It would be smart to look into each location because it's quite a heavy decision.

Second, they give you a gift after the interview! A little WVU SOM mug, some candy, little knickknacks.

Thirdly, and I can't stress this enough: Make aware to them your interest in rural medicine and helping the underserved, either through primary care or preventative medicine--that is key to acceptance!!! For me, it was true so I had no problems saying so, but if not, understand that emphasis going into the interview.

Unfortunately, I will not be going to WVU, so I won't see you guys there. Good luck!

I just got an invite yesterday and totally didn't expect it. I'm soo happy =]
I was complete mid Sept and I'm OOS with no ties to WV. Those that are still waiting...don't give up!!

I also got an interview invite (12/6) and was so surprised myself since im OOS! My interview is for Jan 26 so I was wondering if anyone knows at this stage whether or not i'm battling for a waitlist position right now? Or are there spots left in the class?

I also heard a rumor that all OOSs are put on a waitlist if they interview. Any truth to this?

Has anyone tried to get to WVU by public transportation? Is there a greyhound bus or train that can get me there? My dad said he can drive me there in the morning but I have to get back to PA by myself. Any ideas? Thank you!

I'm withdrawing my application and my interview, which is scheduled for tomorrow. Does anyone know who I should email or call? Can I call the lady we scheduled the interview with? It feels weird to email since they've been contacting us through snail mail, but calling seems a little informal. Thanks in advance!

wow, late notice. i would call Beth

I interviewed Dec 4 and was waitlisted 2 weeks later. Has anyone been accepted from the waitlist? I'm afraid I won't hear from them until April or later.
