I'm brand new to this thread, but I got an interview invite a few weeks ago for March 24. I'm nervous, I haven't heard too many good interview stories 🙁

I just recently interviewed here and thought the place was great. My interviewers asked me realistic ethical questions and probed my reasoning, completely reasonable. I would be happy to go to school here.

No people are still getting outright accepted. No one has been accepted off the waitlist in about a month as i understand. Its a small class though. ~90 spots.

And you DIDN'T get in?😕 That scares me a little. Are they just interviewing for the waitlist now?

A person with stats like that can get into a top 10 medical school. It's meaningless that they didn't get in. The ADCOM may have just not been convinced they'll attend the school. By waitlisting, they can weed out people who aren't serious.

3.3 GPA, 3.2 SGPA, 39O MCAT, accepted. Lots of research experience, publications, some clinical volunteering. Molecular Bio major

This may already be known to most of you, but if you received a "hold" email then your application (and all others in the hold category) won't get looked unless they feel that their current interview pool is unsatisfactory. The admissions is number-based so everyone in the Hold category has a score based on some scale in their admissions process. The higher your number the sooner you'll be looked at again. This is assuming, of course, that the interview pool somehow disappoints them and leaves them lacking in number of students.

I've been accepted to both but really can't decide between the two. I really liked TCMC (facilities, location, enthusiasm of the students/faculty) but am a little wary since it's a new school. I thought AMC was just ok. The facilities were old, Albany was nothing great, but the students were happy and the school itself is well established.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is if the school's length of establishment should be a criteria for choosing between the two? I'm just not sure if it's right of me to weigh the fact that TCMC is new as a negative. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! 😀

I've been on pre-interview hold for 4 months. Got "reject" email today🙁

Ugh, that sucks. I've been on the pre-interview hold for a long while as well, probably about 4 months. Still haven't heard anything from them but that isn't a very good sign for me that you got rejected. Blah, I hate this waiting game!

Interviewed thursday, got an acceptance email today! That was an amazingly fast turnaround. 🙂

Yeah, but if they wanted to reject you, you'd probably be rejected with that person. So it's many times better than being rejected.

Does anyone who is "Under-Consideration" know when we will start to hear anything?

They've already started accepting some people from the UC list. It happened in January--but not February. Hopefully we'll hear again soon. I'm going to guess most of us will hear in April/May and then we'll be put on the waitlist for June/July/August.

FYI - I withdrew from my interview scheduled for this Thursday, the 11th. Sorry for the short notice, but I just accepted to another school on Friday. Hope it goes to someone that would really like to attend Albany.

Does anyone know if Albany is still giving out interviews? I had received one of those "we'll get back to you sometime after the first of the year" emails, and well...it's way after the first of the year!

I've seen that some of you have gotten acceptances (congrats to you all!) or are still on hold, and that there have been some rejections...but any invites?

I'm mostly just curious, because this late in the game I figure it's too late to hold on to much hope. 😕

Does anyone know of any apartment complexes near AMC? I am looking for housing and it seems like there are a lot of homes converted to apartments but I can't find much about apartment buildings.

Thanks!

They are still giving out interview invites. I just got mine today. It seems really late, but better late than never!😀

Thanks for the reply!! That's good to know! :xf: Good luck to you on your interview!

Were you ever on the HOLD list? Has anyone from the HOLD list been offered an interview yet??

was on the hold list, just got an email saying that i've been moved from "hold" to "no interview".. a slightly nicer way of saying rejected right? good luck to those still waiting to hear!! :luck:

That's how most schools have rejected me thus far.

I interviewed here this week, and I really loved the school. Do we have any idea of roughly how many people get accepted right away? Or do most people get moved to the further consideration list first?

I was really hoping for an ethics question (part of the reason I love the school is their bioethics stuff - philosophy major here), but I didn't get any at all. Just a friendly chat with a really nice doctor who told me about the school and the area. It really seems like a great place though.

You're the first person I've heard of who was disappointed about not getting ethics questions haha. I agree about the school. Professors there seem to take teaching very seriously. It's really an intimate school that might not be famous but seems to do a lot of good things when it comes to clinical education.

Well, part of the draw is the program with distinction in ethics. An excuse to do what I want to do anyway 🙂.

Accepted! The admissions people are sooooo nice. I called them yesterday to find out when responses were going out after the meeting yesterday, they said today or tomorrow. I called back like at 5 and left voicemail to see if they could tell me early tomorrow if they knew (I have another interview today at a good school, but I think Albany is a better fit and my sister in-law is here visiting so I didn't want to go if I didn't have to). They called me at like 745, as I was heading out, before they are even officially open, to tell me I got in.

Even before that, it was my best experience with admissions, as they let me reschedule twice, quickly, after I got sick twice in a row around my interviews >.<.

Anyway yay! Now to find out more about housing and living in Albany =)

If any current students or people in the area could tell me about where people live (also prices for housing etc) and if there are places with lawns in city or withing like a 15min drive to hospital or any guidance for living there, I'd love it!

Congratulations! I was put in the "under consideration" category. This sucks because now I'm on three waitlists with no acceptances. I can't deal with this anymore

Congrats! I also interviewed last week and found out I was accepted this morning! Strangely enough, I also didn't receive any ethics questions, but I am not complaining.

I applied to more than 30 schools, and I was lucky enough to get interviews at 4 of my 5 top choices, UMass, Harvard, and Albany/Emory (which were roughly tied). I liked them all for different reasons, but UMass has been my top choice since the moment I decided to apply to medical school.

Obviously, I'm wicked excited about Albany though.

For anyone interested, I called the Admissions Office today. Those of us who interviewed last week will have a decision (and be notified) by next Thursday at the latest. No meeting this week, but one early next week.

When was the last time anyone got off of the Waiting List? It seems like they only pulled from this list once in January.

Hello!

The interview invite email says that there is a student welcoming committee that holds an orientation and COULD PROVIDE HOUSING for students interviewing on Wednesdays or Thursdays. I never got any correspondence from a welcoming committee, and I don't see where on the application page I can indicate housing preferences.
....Help?

Thanks! 🙂

31O, 3.4 GPA from Cornell, Accepted!!! Just goes to show, you don't have to have stellar stats to get in to med school, you just need to be solid and well-rounded. Perhaps I was helped by the fact that I am from Albany, but who knows...

My interview at Albany was actually very relaxed; the first interviewer (a physician) told me they were basically checking to make sure I could hold a conversation and didn't have two heads. We chatted for a little while about a few of my medically related experiences and that was that.

My second interviewer talked more than I did-- he really seemed to be selling the school. Despite being from Albany, I had no idea about how many great things AMC is involved in. There is a lot of government-related biomedical research happening there, and the facilities are currently under renovation/ new buildings are under construction.

I'm still waiting to hear from UVM and I'm waitlisted at a few other schools, but I'm incredibly excited about having Albany as an option!

:troll:

he/she doesn't seem like a troll to me? sure it's a first time poster, but why would someone make that up? sigh.. this waiting is killing me

I mean, that COULD be a troll, but it seems so unlikely. Not sure what you're getting at with your picture.

I just wanted to use that graphic... Never used it before

Congrats on the acceptance though!

Hmm... I'm new to the forums... can't say I know what a troll is??

I interviewed Jan 6th and was accepted a week later 🙂 I had seen SDN before but I hadn't used or perused it regularly, but now I'm interested to see what's happening with admissions at Albany and a few other places! So that explains my presence here... and I just looked in the mirror... didn't see a troll, so I think we're safe 😀

Hey all, I haven't logged onto SDN in a while, but I'm a current student here at AMC, and I like it here! The city is pretty dull, but my classmates are awesome, the administration is friendly, and the classes are flexible (meaning, since they're all recorded online, I don't go to most of them 😉). Plus, the fact that a bunch of the incoming class comes from combined undergrad/medical programs just adds to the diversity, from my experience.

"fizzle" or anyone else with information, can you recommend areas to live in Albany that are close to AMC? Thanks!

does anyone know if AMC is planning a second look day?

I've been wondering the same thing! I didn't get any information about filling out the financial aid forms until I emailed the financial aid office to ask about it... so I wonder if I haven't been getting emails I should be getting or something.

Finaid office doesn't send you this until you fill out FAFSA and release the information to AMC. I think AMC is pretty good at sending emails individually and not having them go to SPAM, or that's my experience.
I am under consideration and released the information so they sent it to me but I'm not supposed to fill it out until I'm accepted they said. (haha i laughed and said "if" I get accepted).

They may be still pulling from it occasionally, but no one on SDN is among them or they're simply not posting about it. I have little doubt they'll pull from it again this month a few times and/or a few times next month before they form the official wait list.

Sucks though. I was really hoping to be accepted there by now 🙁
