Yay! My letters were just dl'ed too. I'm hoping we hear back from them in the next couple weeks.

I know I am hoping for too much, but I would love to hear back from them next week! That would be awesome. Good luck to all still waiting, just be patient.

It seems like every one with a LOR request is getting their confirmation emails really close together, regardless of whether they just asked for them this week or last week in the first batch.

I know this is probably looking way too far ahead, but does anyone (PremedIowa, drdeman, etc.) know if Mayo sends out the interview invites in batches or individually? It seems like Pitt does it individually, but Mayo seems to do most things in batches. I knocked on wood to not jinx myself by asking about interview invites too early, I am a dork...

Hey all, the interview invites go out in batches similar to most of the other emails you have received. I received mine at around midnight pacific time. Hope this helps. Good luck to you all.

has anyone received a LOR request lately? it seems to have died down. i was verified 6/28 and am still hoping!

Thanks! That helps a lot. Since they are going out in batches, they will wait until they have a decent number of applications reviewed, so interview invites might take a week or two before they get sent out. At least this way I can plan on waiting two weeks before I get anxious. 🙄

Ohh....btw I just remembered this. I actually got my interview invite very late on a Saturday night/Sunday Morning. Just wanted to let you all know that stuff can happen on the weekends as well. Don't stress too much tho.

Cast...thanks so much for all the help! I, too, have received a LOR request. Do you remember how long after your LOR request you received an interview invite? Thanks so much! 🙂

Great, now I have to stay up late on the weekend too! JK, this is actually good to hear (read?). I'm glad the weekend isn't some sort of dead zone for activity from Mayo. Fortunately for me, I live far enough west that the emails come at midnight anyways, which isn't really that late.

Keep in mind that the cycle has been accelerated when you look at the process for last year's applicants. I think one of them posted it on this thread somewhere. I will take a look and see if I can find it.

I'm not sure how helpful this will be since this year's cycle is accelerated but here are all the dates for my application this past year.

AMCAS verified - 08/15/08
Mayo Fee Request Email - 08/16/08
Mayo Fee Received Email - 08/18/08
Mayo LOR Request - 08/29/08
Mayo LOR Received Email - 09/05/08
Mayo Interview Invite - 10/26/08
Mayo Interview - 11/21/08
Mayo Post Interview Rank Email - 01/08/09
Mayo Hold Status Email - 01/23/09
Mayo Alternate Status Email - 03/16/09
Mayo Acceptance - 05/06/09

As you can see....it is quite the process so don't stress....its way to early for that.

Trying to guess as to the timeline of one application this year would be almost pure speculation. Even though the process remains the same, the timeline has changed so much it is difficult to guess when things will happen for an individual. When in doubt, don't hesitate to contact Marcy or someone else in the MMS office to ask questions. They were by far the most responsive and knowledgeable staff that I talked to last year and they really try to answer your questions rather than throwing up smoke.

I've been thinking about writing a bit about the first few weeks of class in this thread. Would there be any interest in reading that?

no, what kind of question is that? as long as mayo is prestigious, I don't care about anything else.

haha but seriously, that'd be awesome; I've been wondering what the experience is like in a smaller-sized med school class. I've heard experiences from plenty of people at large schools. this might be a nice change 🙂

I would love to hear any and everything you have to tell us about Mayo from your impressions on the application process to the first few years of class.

I agree, it'd be really great to hear about how it is. I heard a little about it already from the tour, but the more I can find out the better 🙂

Yes, please tell us all the info you have. I am dying to go to Mayo.

I am looking forward to meeting all of my future classmates at this Friday's class camping trip! After that, I bet I will be going crazy to get ready for classes or slacking off with 50 of my future friends, whichever happens first.

Here is the schedule for orientation for the first three days of next week before we start Block 1, Improving the Public's Health.

Looks like you and your classmates will be keeping the staff quite busy. I hope they can send out some interview invites before you all distract them (***knocking on wood in hopes I get an invite***).

A picnic at the dean's house??? I don't think that happens at most medical schools! I am even more jealous of you now.

Dang, I REALLY want to go to Mayo. If I get in, I will probably scream for about two entire days.

You and me both. I remember when I first really started looking into medical schools about 3 years ago. My school had a prehealth professions fair with medical, dental, podiatric, etc. schools, and I met a fourth year student from Mayo on an away rotation in Scottsdale. She was awesome. I went home and got on the website to learn more about Mayo. That is when I fell in love with Mayo...mmmmmmm, Mayo 😍

It has been my top choice since, and I have tried to do everything I can to ensure I am a competitive applicant to Mayo. I hope they show me some love back.

Too late. Well, not really, but Mayo is my top choice. I would be happy to go to almost any other school I am applying to though.

Yeah, I have been in love with Mayo since about sophomore year, maybe freshman...pretty much for as long as I have been wanting to go to medical school. I will be happy with anywhere I get in, but I will be SUPER, SUPER pumped if I get into Mayo. I feel like the school is a perfect fit for me.

I saw on MDApps that you are from ASU. I'm from U of A, so we're both in AZ.

Awesome, let's go AZ applicants!

The Mayo med students I talked to while I was there doing research were unbelievably nice and down-to-earth... I hope they send me a LOR request one of these days! :xf:

what's the deal with az and mayo? I know there's a clinic in scottsdale, but there's one in jacksonville too.... where are the FL people?

Booo FL! Go AZ!!! Actually, I don't know why there seem to be a lot of AZ people who apply to Mayo. I always thought it just seemed that way to me, because I am from AZ.

Haha, I actually am surprised there are so many AZ people, I was thinking any AZ or FL people (or any other southern state for that matter) would be scared of our MN winter blizzards and our below-zero weather 😉

According to weather.com at 9:45 p.m. it was still 104 degrees outside. I was just out there, and I believe it. The forecast low for tonight? A freezing 90 degrees. I am ready for a change of weather. Cold weather doesn't really scare me too much, and if that is all I have to put up with for Mayo I will do so happily.

I lived in FL for 3 years before moving to AZ.

I'm not scared of the cold weather. I don't really like it, but I used to live up north (OH and PA) so I know what I'm putting myself up for.

104???! snow is the best...you will love it! then hate it when you have to drive through 2 feet of it...lol

its not just snow and its not just cold. its an icebox. so cold some times you can't even go outside. not like the winters in the northeast people complain of so much. minn is a different planet

Yeah, it seriously is 104 in Tempe, AZ right now (actually at 9:45). This is what I hate about our heat is that it never leaves, even in the middle of the night. I have never had an issue with cold weather, but then again I have also never spent an entire winter in cold weather. Each place has its good and bad weather, and April through September aren't our good months in AZ normally.

Haha, I love snow! As long as I'm not hiking to class in it, I go to the U of M which is a big campus and getting to class is FREEZING cold! I agree with Jason that it's an icebox. I definitely wouldn't compare it to OH and PA in terms of winters! But at least those will be a good transition maybe!

One of my favorite parts of the first day it snows is the driving, because I swear that every single year, everybody forgets how to drive in the snow. People in the ditch everywhere, I don't understand it!

It would certainly be a change, but if I really hated it, it is only four years of medical school. Heck, I could even do an away rotation down here in AZ during my fourth year, and only go through 3 full MN winters. I am actually excited by the prospect of living somewhere cold. I don't know if I will like it, but it is worth a try. Plus, this extreme heat has a tendency to give me migranes.

Ah yes, the one plus about the heat, it doesn't make actually driving suck. I just makes you terribly uncomfortable and sweaty when your car sits in the sun for any period of time. I have been fortunate to not have to drive much this summer, but the best is burning your hands on the steering wheel or seat belt.

Midwest winters are inexplicable if you haven't experienced them, I agree with the above posts that there are days that are just absurdly, painfully cold. Like it just hurts to be outside cold. Driving is a challenge if you've never driven on ice/snow.

But yes, Mayo's worth it. 😍

Haha, yea my boyfriend lives in the desert of California for the military, and when I went to visit I hated getting in the car because it was such an oven. But freezing in the car stinks, too. In a completely different way.

mayo is such a diamond in the rough...hehe

My favorite experience in the car is the A/C blowing a full power for ~5 minutes before cooling down, and your back gets sweaty regardless because the AC doesn't reach it. I eventually just start ignoring it when I sweat. However, I can imagine the extreme cold being worse than the extreme heat, but both can really suck. I would be able to compare the two properly if Mayo would just accept me. Hint, hint to any Mayo adcoms lurking out there, please accept me!!!
