I really want to get into Mayo but I have a 3.0 GPA with a 22 MCAT.

I got a LOR request, partly due to some contacts I have in the school, but you guys need to chill out. If I can be calm, you can too.

I don't think I have seen anyone on here with an LOR request get rejected, so there is definitely still hope.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but are you a troll? Based on posts from current students, Mayo is not the kind of place where connections are going to get you in or even help you.

As for the chill out part, I think we are all pretty calm. People on here aren't acting much different than the people on other threads.

👍 The screen is basically LizzyM (GPA*10+MCAT) greater than or equal to 60. His/hers is at 52, which is pretty far below.
 
I think a lot of us are getting crap about being too intense about the process. While I do think there is such a thing as being "too into it", I think it is far better than the alternative. After all, we are making decisions that will define the rest of our lives. I think not being excited about that would be a bit of a problem...

👍 I completely agree. I think people pass judgement too quickly on here about us being gunners or something. This is really the only outlet many of us have for expressing ourselves about this whole process, so of course when we post it is of excitement or stress. This is only a small window into our lives. I don't come on here posting about how I am just relaxing playing Mario Kart Wii, even though I am quite laid back.

I'll post about Mario Kart Wii! That game is ridiculously fun. I'm beginning to think that to wean myself off of SDN I need a lesser vice to take its place. Kinda like getting a heroin addict onto methadone. Nintendo Wii here I come! lol

I don't know if Mario Kart is a lesser vice than SDN for me. Maybe it will be after I get all those damn gold trophies! Probably not though, because then it is on to the time trials to beat the computer's best time to unlock more stuff. If I wasn't at work right now, I would be playing Mario Kart...maybe I should go find a Mario Kart message board 🙄

It sucks to see so many rejections, and I guess they started on the LOR people now. Best of luck to you guys (and gals)!
 
rejected just now, had my LOR's request a while ago...all in all very surprised... "Not selected" in the subject heading is kind of upfront imo. gluck to the rest of you.
 
I'm so sorry for those of you who got rejected today! Good luck this cycle!!

For those of you still waiting, I'm guessing that they may have batches of applications that they look at... we've now seen both interview invites and rejections for those complete through 07/16, but I'm 07/17 and I haven't heard either way. Guess we're next. :scared:
 
Rejected. Ah well. It's been great talking to everyone on the thread, I can genuinely say that I am totally pulling for those of you who are left! Best of luck to you guys!

I was complete (paid) 7/12 and still haven't heard anything regarding LORs. 🙁


Edit: Not "complete" but paid.

What do you mean? We use complete to indicate that Mayo has received all of our LORs and emailed us that we are under review.

Ah, I suppose "complete" is the wrong word then. I received confirmation of my payment on 7/12.

Mario Kart is great, but I spend all day telling my 4-year old "no" to his persistent requests to play it. I have to say though.. for his age I'm impressed with his driving skills, he gets first place on 50cc occasionally.

Best of luck to those still waiting to hear. My interview request came early Wednesday morning, so maybe you'll hear something soon! But don't let that piece of information keep you up all night.. sleep is always a good thing..

I'm a nontrad with very similar stats and a good amount work outside of school. Thanks so much for the inspiration.

Wow, this made my day (and I had a good day)! I'm so glad to give you some encouragement. I met one of the students at Mayo when I went for the tour and she had a very similar background.. she was extremely encouraging, not just for Mayo but for the application process in general. It can feel like we're a bit disconnected being so far out from college can't it?

Ditto. I paid on 7/15. Still waiting to hear back on LOR/Rejection. Guess I'm on the fence too. Here's hoping I end up leaning to the right direction :xf:

Still in limbo here, too! Paid beginning of July...nada. At least some of my other schools are moving. Texas Tech is lickety split!!

Thank you! For those of you still waiting though, I actually waited just 1.5 weeks which is the average for everyone right now. I got my LOR request back in June, but didn't get my letters in for a few weeks.

You will receive an email when Mayo downloads the letters. This is similar to the "under review" status at other schools. It seems most people have heard something back from them 2-3 weeks after this, but that certainly isn't a rule.

Okay, so maybe this is a dumb question...but: where does the term "troll" come from? I get it's meaning on here but I'm just confused as to why they'd be called trolls... 🙄

I'm pretty sure it is not just on SDN, but it is an internet term. From wikipedia:

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or collaborative content community with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional or disciplinary response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion."

More from wikipedia, "It is thought to be a truncation of the phrase trolling for suckers, itself derived from the fishing technique of slowly dragging a bait through water, known as trolling."

Well July 27 I was rejected from Mayo, at 3pm central. I had recieved a LOR request and my LORs were verifyed on 7/9. Good luck to all that are still in the hunt.
 
Added Mayo on 07/01, and I've not heard anything yet. Would they send a rejection instead of a fee request, or should I expect not to hear from them if I'm rejected?

You should contact them if you added Mayo back on the first. They should have sent you a fee request, if your LizzyM is greater than or equal to 60.
