You should contact them if you added Mayo back on the first. They should have sent you a fee request, if your LizzyM is greater than or equal to 60.

Yeah, so idiot me forgot that Mayo was one of the schools at which my old MCAT would be outdated. Scores from tomorrow's MCAT will get my application rolling.

Something interesting I found out, though, is that Mayo won't be considering my graduate GPA (4.0 in BU's GMS program) at all in their cutoff, but rather my undergrad only (PNTD). Per the nice lady in the Admissions Office, to make the cut, I'll need a 34 or better tomorrow.

Doable? Sure... but how's that for pressure?! :xf:

Nah, make it motivation. Good luck!! :luck::xf:

I agree with itsalovestory, use it as motivation. I'm sorry to see you getting held down by a lower GPA from undergrad when you seem to clearly have improved more recently. This is one of the somewhat irritating aspects of this process. For me it was stupid HS dual enrollment classes, good luck tomorrow!

Thanks for the wish of luck.

On another note, PNTD = Prefer not to disclose. But you knew that, I'm sure.:annoyed:

He just deduced it from the fact that you need a 34 MCAT. I'm sure he meant no harm.

Anyhow, good luck to you! I'm sure you will get a great score on the MCAT. 4.0 your graduate program is pretty impressive. It's too bad they won't count that.

You both could just edit your posts so that the number doesn't have to stay on there unnecessarily.

Crap, I'm really sorry about that. I did not realize that is what it meant. I edited my post to remove it. Again, I am really sorry. I mentally calculated it, so it must have been on my mind.

Wait, is there some formula that Mayo uses for a minimum GPA/MCAT combo?

Meh, it's not the end of the world. Sorry to have reacted so sharply! It probably wouldn't have bothered me so much, except it's been a very long time since I've really seen my GPA written, or thought about it much.

My undergrad GPA was 2.82. I'm thinking, if this application cycle goes halfway decent, maybe I can give some hope to some of the other nontraditional turnaround stories out there!

I'm raising my coffee cup to us non-traditional students whose undergrad track record is coming back to visit us after all of these years! I do think that the experience after college is a plus. And your passion about medicine will show through too. So, keep hope alive. 🙂 And.. all the best on your MCAT tomorrow.

Wait, is there some formula that Mayo uses for a minimum GPA/MCAT combo?

The formula is GPA*10+MCAT. This must be greater than or equal to 60 to receive the fee request. It is hard to tell how much Mayo factors in the MCAT/GPA beyond this initial screening, but I would have to guess they consider it less than most other schools. Mayo is big on ECs.

Nonetheless, it should have been easy enough for me to realize that if you wanted to post it you would have done so yourself. I wish you luck tomorrow and in this entire cycle. I really like to see people who may have not done their best work in undergrad come back and prove they can make it in med school. Who knows, it may even cause them to change the system one day, so that they would include a post-bac 4.0 from some one like you!

I'll toast to that. I have almost the exact same stats with being out of school for almost 3 years. I'm so happy for you!

sweet, LOR request today!

I got my 1st email from Mayo on 6/25, but was delayed in processing since I mistakenly put down the wrong date for my MCAT and was on the "Future MCAT" pile.

lor request today!!

a quick question -- in the lor request it says "Please ask your letter writers to include your AMCAS identification number on all letters of reference. "

anybody know if this is a big deal? the letter writers i asked early on for sure won't have it in my letter and the latter letter writers were informed my aamc # but i didn't specifically request they put it in the letter, so it's probably not there. i did put the aamc id # as supplemental info for each letter when i sent out the request via my school, but i guess i just want to see if this came up as an issue for anyone.

just curious, do you know how long it took from payment verification/fixed mcat to LOR request? i got payment acknowledgment on monday, so im wondering if i have days, weeks, or what to wait before LOR request or rejection

Congratulations on the LOR request! As for your question, I honestly don't know but suggest calling the Admissions Office. They're incredibly helpful, and always very sweet whenever I call them. 🙂 The number's at the bottom of all their emails.

EDIT: Their number's only at the bottom of certain emails. Check your one that's titled "Fee Received."

Congrats, that's fantastic!! 🙂 As for the AAMC ID, like you, I requested my letters early and am fairly certain my # was not included on each letter. I have an interview in September, however, so it must not have been too much of an issue. Good luck with everything!

Congrats on the LOR request. It's not an issue if they are downloading your letters from AMCAS. If for some reason they are not, then you should call them and let them know.

Wait what?! Does that mean they'll ignore my grades from the post-bacc premed program @ columbia? Man... that'll suck real bad for me since (like you) I went through it with straight As... and I didn't do as well in my undergrad years either.

👎

I am pretty sure they only don't consider your post-bac stuff in the intial screening. Assuming you make it past that, I think that is when they review your entire application, such as how you did in a post-bac program.

I just got my LOR request last night. I send in my fee and was "complete" 7/19.

In yer face lrkoehle! Oh wait, you already have an interview. You win this round :meanie:

Hmmm so I was complete on 7/13 and still no news from them. Anyone else have to wait 2+ weeks and still get the LOR request?

Received LOR request today!!!

Fee Request Received and Paid 7/23
Undergrad cGPA: 3.4
Undergrad sGPA: 3.25
Grad GPA: 3.8
MCAT: 35

I do have extensive EC's mostly leadership and community service.

 LOR request is still a big victory all the same.

LOR request....07/30

Congrats to all who moved on to the next stage with an LOR request last night!

I had a letter request 7/10. I have not heard either way yet. I have a 3.5 GPA with a 33 (8, 11, 14, R). Not really expecting anything, just somewhat honored they might be still considering me!

Did everyone that got the prereq question email get the LOR request?

I don't know about everyone but I got a pre-req email 2 days after my fee request and then a LOR request, the day after. So I am not sure. Can't wait to get my 'complete' email and perhaps an interview invite!

After hearing all this, it sounds like it's bad for me. No worries though, I didn't expect anything from this school.

Don't give up hope just yet. Look at Cast128 from last year's thread. He had to wait until early May, but eventually he got accepted and now attends Mayo. It isn't over until its over.

LOR request today too! 🙂 I submitted my fee 7/12 and didn't get that pre-req e-mail. I tried to scan the thread to answer this, but I just want to make sure, if my letters are already updated and designated for Mayo on AMCAS, then I just wait for an e-mail saying they've received them now? Sorry..

Also.. I was thinking about just assigning one committee letter for them because they require that or three individual ones, but I do have a few others that were submitted from science faculty. Do you think that one committee letter is enough?

Thanks everyone, and congratulations to those who just received the LOR request today too!

Hello all, almost done with our second week at Mayo.

This week has been much easier time-wise than the first. Only a couple assignments and reflection papers and every afternoon off, though some time is allocated for shadowing. I spent yesterday afternoon in the clinic seeing cancer patients which was an inspiring and humbling experience.

Mayo really gives their students a lot of support from the beginning. We are all paired with physician mentors, the majority of whom are very interested in our lives. I met my mentor and her husband and they both were interested in not only supporting me academically and career-wise, but in whatever way they can personally. What other school puts students in touch with such caring (and accomplished) mentors that want you to succeed both professionally and personally?

Hope to meet some of you during interviews. This is a very unique institution that gives you both the personal experience of a small school and the opportunities one would expect from such a high-profile medical center.

Oh yeah, and my classmates rock.

Can't you just PM this to a couple of us and tell everyone else how horrible it is to drop the number of applicants. Tell them that they literally tie you to a chair and force you to eat mayo all day long and then recite facts out of books super fast! Let me get back to my chanting:

 Wise and powerful Mayo gods, grant me an interview

Speak for yourself! I had LORs recieved July 9, still haven't heard anything! It is driving me crazy! I stay up until 3 AM central time every night just so I can know if I am safe for another day! I can't sleep otherwise😀

Give me a break. I can't believe how many people on this thread have said that exact same statement. Almost makes me not even want to go here if these are the kinds of people they're looking for.

wow. lmao!

This thread is addictive. I'm still not staying up late watching my inbox, clicking refresh every 5 min...YET!+pissed+

hahahaha, i hear ya, man.
this whole application process has us all going a little crazy 🙂

👍 That's awesome, and here I was thinking the name Mayo came from the Mayo family, to find out it is their educational approach.

Glad to see you're coming around. Mayo sucks you in a little more at each step. I screwed up and went to visit Mayo; they've had their hooks in me ever since. Oh and don't stay up late checking your email, just set an alarm to wake you up at 2:30 EST, then go back to bed. 🙄

I just wanted to confirm that Mayo does not consider any post-undergraduate coursework in its GPA calculation. Best of luck.

I believe that post-bac classes are still considered undergrad if that helps.

From what I've heard, this is exactly right.

Hmm... sitting down and calculating my LizzyM puts me well over 60 even w/o my post bacc grades! Well actually no that was short lived. With my postbacc grades it doesn't even go up by a point. Blarg.

Still.. this means I might get a LoR request yet! C'mooooon mayo :xf::xf::xf:

Ashunka- when did you pay the application fee?

Thanks!

"Any Mayo students have suggestions? Could you PM me if your willing to discuss more, specifically abt me.
I asked them whether i can stay with a student. the webpage says sometimes they can arrange it ."

We will be starting that program soon. We just voted in our class reps and should be able to get info to you at least by early September. For now, just wait and we will get back to you once our class reps get organized with all that administrative stuff. Hopefully, we will be able to both organize student hosting and take most groups out for dinner or drinks or whatnot. For now, sit tight and don't worry about making hotel reservations or anything.

That would be awesome if a few of you guys are able to come out for dinner/drinks. I would love to get to see more of Rochester than just the school and clinic.

hey, interview invite over here

see some of you folks in September

Congratulations.

Rejected via email @ 1:30AM. Did not get LOR request. Paid fee on 7/10. Not too surprised, as Mayo was pretty reachy for me. Good luck to those of you still in the hunt!

All of you Mayo applicants,

I have read your comments and profiles, and I am so impressed. Honestly, whichever school you ultimately attend, your patients will be in good hands. I think I would be comfortable as a patient myself in under any of your care. What an honor it is to be considered as an applicant along with you all.
