Wanted to clarify on the bolded point above. MSU does third interviews, usually by phone, for applicants with one positive interviewer rating and one negative. This happens rarely, as the ratings have to be really different. The decision to offer a third interview is usually pretty quick, as it does not indicate they are considering you for admission yet. There are numbers involved in the interview rating, and they offer another interview if one score is high while the other is real low.

Good luck to those waiting to hear back tonight.

Congrats determined1985! Mind sharing your stats?

Ehhhh here goes!

2.8 undergrad GPA, 28Q, and 4.0 SMP (non-urm).

But to tell the rest of the story, I made sure the rest of my app was as strong as possible: strong letters of recommendations, I let everyone and their mom read my personal statement and secondaries, great EC's (volunteering hours up the wazoo!, awards and honors for volunteerism, legit clinical experience, and plenty of leadership roles), and finally you can bet your arse I submitted my AMCAS on June 2nd and had no more than a 7-day turn around on my secondary.

Goodluck all!

Im starting to get super worried!! I interviewed september 29th and haven't heard anything yet. I called the admissions office multiple times, but they haven't been able to tell me anything different from my status page. Its discouraging seeing these notification dates come and go without a word. What do you guys think?

If I told you that I interviewed on Halloween last year and was accepted the last date before Christmas, would that make you feel slightly better? I also know of one girl from my undergrad who interviewed in early October and was accepted in January. It happens, try not to overanalyze it. I've been there, though, so I know how hard it is to watch the dates go by and not agonize over the lack of a phone call.

I interviewed in early November, and have seen three notification dates come and pass. The wait is killing me.

Yes, that does! Thanks 🙂

Hey I may be totally wrong here (so someone please step in to confirm or reject this)....

But when I interviewed, I want to say that my interviewer kept stating something along the lines of "So when I write my proposal for you..." or "So when I submit my proposal to the committee..."; I may be absolutely delusional about this, though. But if I am correct, the interviewers need to write a proposal or few paragraphs on you/ fill out an interview form before your application is reviewed by the committee (I think I saw this on SDN or heard this from others on my interview day, too). Also, this would make sense in reference to your website status; i.e.- "Thank you for attending Interview Day at CHM. Your application is being prepared for presentation to the Committee on Admissions. Your status will be updated once a final decision is made.").

So maybe if your interviewer has been too busy to write his or her proposal, your application can't be sent to the committee for review, right?

Hopefully this helps? Goodluck!

does this school accept letters of interest

what's MSU's turnaround time for reviewing applications? Mine still says "complete and under review"...it's been at that status since sept 2...does this mean a silent rejection, or are they really still reviewing?😕

You'll definitely know if you're rejected.

Interviewers do fill out a form with places to comment on applicants. There is a due date of between four days and a week to get it in, but I would imagine that they do not come after people who are late with knives or anything. That said, it is likely that if you don't hear anything for a while it is not because your interviewer didn't turn in your form for weeks on end, but rather because they simply didn't get to your application.

Received my alternate list email from MSU this morning, not sure if I should be sad or happy.
Has anyone else received an alternate list placement at this point?
Do they even reject anyone post-interview at this point?
Do I really have to wait until late May to hear from them again?
What kind of supplemental information do alternate applicants send?

If this helps, I'm OOS and my stats are a little above average for MSU according to MSAR.

Thanks everyone!

Thanks everyone!

The eventual acceptance rate for OOS interviews is very high because they don't interview a ton and most are scared off by the price tag. If this is where you want to go, theres a good shot you get in after may 15th

Has anyone that's been accepted received their CBC email?

should be some status updates today for you guys.

here is what i got via status page, no email...

"Your AMCAS application, Secondary Application and letters of evaluation have been reviewed for an interview decision. We regret to inform you that the CHM Admissions Review Committee has decided not to invite you to interview. The application process is complete and no further consideration will be given to your application."

Ditto. That stinks.

Lol...mine:

Thank you for your interest in the College of Human Medicine. The Committee on Admissions has reviewed your application and, while noting its strengths, regrets to inform you that your application was unsuccessful. You will not receive an invitation to interview, and your application will not receive further consideration.

An unsuccessful application to the College of Human Medicine does not imply that you are unsuited to pursue a career in medicine. This decision indicates only that the Committee feels there are other applicants better suited to our particular medical school program.

I wonder if that's a slightly different letter than what you guys got...I guess I'm not altogether surprised...I submitted my app right on the deadline.

I got one version on my online status check and the other in an email. We were equally rejected 🙂

Ahah...good to know! This is the fastest rejection I've received, which is why I'm blaming it on being OOS 🙂

Rejected. Haha, good luck to those still waiting.

Have to say they could have made that rejection letter a little nicer. Oh well, their loss.

Interview invite today! Scheduled for February, complete in August- OOS

rejected, same generic email across the board. FFS! 🙁

Wow, looks like a massacre today. I still haven't heard anything, I guess it's a blessing at this point.

nice of them to let us know the first monday of the new year about the decision they obviously made before the break.. boo

so for all these rejections was your file ever on hold? or were you guys just complete? I am currently on hold for interview decision

Weren't the next set of calls supposed to go out tonight?

Yes, but I think this just goes to show how small of a sample size SDN is. Seems like most of the folks on here have already gotten into their schools of choice.

Hey Guys--I've been one of those SDN lurkers. Anyways I got the call today at 6:30 pm EST, private number appeared on phone.

Stats:
28O MCAT
3.7 GPA MSU 2005
NCI Research
MPH
Complete: 10/2/09
Invite: 10/22/09
Interview: 10/29/09
Acceptance: 01/05/10

Although I am a non-traditional applicant, I think this shows how random the process can be so hang in there...😳

Congrats on the acceptance!! I was complete literally days after you and haven't heard a peep from them. Guess I won't be getting an interview here. I really wish they would take at least a letter of interest. This is by far my top choice!!

They interview through March and even into the first week of April. Relax, still a lot of time to hear.

rejected via email the other day as well OOS, 30R, 3.62, ah well, what can you do

Sorry posted to wrong thread!

WTF? I thought ABLE was for people with "risk of academic difficulty" I don't think a 30 and 3.4 shows any sort of risk. When did you interview and how long after being complete were you invited to interview?
