Submitted my secondary three days, but not still not complete in terms of letters of rec, but they should have received those last week. Anybody know how long it takes to be complete?

I submitted my LOR's on 9/14 but not my secondary until 10/2. They said "it may take a few weeks for your application to be processed by the Admissions staff" so I'd just sit tight, especially since OHSU is known to be a little slower.

I'm wondering if it's even worth it at this point to submit this secondary... Still haven't written the essays. They're just so long it's hard to motivate myself to do it!

For OHSU, October really isn't all that late. They interview through March, and (unless you are a really stellar or a really terrible candidate) your chances don't really depend on when you interview - most of the class is selected after everyone has been interviewed.

That being said, don't just fill the essays with BS if you can't motivate yourself. The essays count for a lot with OHSU.

On my status page, it says my LORs haven't been received, even though they were mailed about two weeks ago. And it says that my application has been processed, so I don't know why they haven't received them. My deadline is 10/15, so I'm starting to freak out.

This happened to me when I applied. Even if your letters have been received, they are not marked as received until OHSU actually downloads them (assuming that they were sent electronically). They had my LORs sitting in their system for almost a month before they actually downloaded them. I'm guessing that's the case with you, but you can always call if you are worried about it - I don't want to flood the admissions office by posting phone numbers here, but if you really can't find any contact info on your status page or contact emails, you can always PM me.

I second this. I applied last year and didn't get my stuff in until early November, near the very end of my submission deadline, and still got an interview in early March. OHSU is more concerned with quality work, rather than turnover rate. I would also be willing to bet that since OHSU only recently started sending out supplemental stuff, you will probably be lumped in with the middle of the pack.

Have there been any interview invites yet?? I would have thought someone would have gotten something by now. (Yes, I understand I am hopeful and anxious.)

does anyone know if the MSTP funds interview expenses?

I'm not sure about the MSTP (through the NIH), but I think most medical schools do. Most of my friends who applied MD/PhD in the past got free hotel rooms, dinners, etc. when they applied...the interview process is usually at least 2 days at most schools. It's as much a chance to interview you as it is to impress you with the city and money the schools has (i.e. they will wine and dine you and make you feel special). Most med schools tend to treat the MSTP students better than regular med students throughout their careers, which makes sense in that you're probably going to be spending almost a decade at that place (usually at least 7 or up to 10 years). You should definitely know if you like the culture of that institution and the city it's in before making that committment.

Good luck!

complete yesterday 10/8
submitted app,fee,letters 9/28

Complete today! Now I get to wait some more. Sigh.

interview invite!!! OOS, complete early September

yea i applied MSTP and most places at least fun 3-4 days in a hotel. the only thing is, its only true if its a MSTP granted institution (I'm not sure if OHSU is) but I really want to see portland.

Received a phone call regarding interview offer... It kinda threw me off guard. I'll be interviewing Sept 15. Anyone else gonna be there that day?

I'm glad to hear there is finally some progress.

Ummm, do you mean Oct 15? Congrats on the interview, whenever it is. I'm hoping I will hear from them soon. Are you in-state or OOS?

Actually I just answered my own question, Portland is definitely in-state.

Yep, I meant Oct 15. I guess I was a little tired then. And yes, I am in state.

Anyone else going to be there?

Hold list...great...Wooo for more waiting.

CSMD2B, do you mind sharing when you completed your application? If OHSU invites in order of completed apps, then it will give some indication of the lag - providing one more statistic to feed our collective neurosis 🙂

Best,
Ascenda

You guys have probably guessed this based on the earlier poster's comment...but yes, OHSU interviews will be in full swing by next week.

does anyone know if the MSTP funds interview expenses?

Nope. OHSU does not pay for travel expenses or housing for MD/PhD applicants. If you are a really stellar candidate, you may be able to call and convince them to throw some cash at you, but it probably won't happen. You are much more likely to be reimbursed for a second look than for an interview.

However, you can easily stay with an MD/PhD student host if you want to.

Ascenda,
I received and submitted my secondary 9/10. They already had received my LOR's and my file was complete by 9/17.

Best of luck to all! OHSU is by far my top choice, great school, in state, and phenomenal opportunities for Med Students! 😀

This school just grabbed my attention and I want to apply. I know its late to add schools at this point, but since they only sent out the sec one month ago, would I be too late? Or should I just go for it and add them?

I'd add them. I've heard that they accept students late in the cycle, so you're probably fine.

My secondary was just processed today, and my status page says this:

"Please note the following information about your application materials:

On your AMCAS application, you indicated an intention to take the MCAT on 07/02/2009. We will wait for the results of that test. If you choose not to take the MCAT on this date or to take an additional exam, please notify AMCAS of this change immediately. Otherwise, this notice will appear until your file is complete."

Anyone else have something like this? My score is definitely in...

I was completed today as well. I took the MCAT on July 17th but my page does not show that message. Sounds like they aren't considering your application complete until the score gets in, so I would make sure they know everything is ready for them to review your app.

One of my letters was sent by mail from my employer about 2 weeks ago, and it has not been received yet. I sent an e-mail through their website asking about it, but I couldn't find any contact numbers. Does anybody know how much time snail mail takes to process with the adcom? It was sent in Portland, so it seems like it should definitely be in their mailbox by now.

Has anyone had luck getting a response from them via email?

dude what happened to completing people fast?!!!! i submitted end of september why are they not completing meeeeee?!! 😕

I have that same MCAT message on my status. I called somebody at the admissions office and they told me to just wait since they have to manually add the new scores to the application.

Has anyone been invited to interview here yet?

Also, as for the status thing, I found that my status updated like 3 weeks after I submitted everything.

what is the status page? i lost all of the bookmarks on my computer...

They're really giving out invites over the phone? Did they send you an e-mail as well?

I think this was a special case since his interview invite & date of actual interview was only a few days apart. They probably had a last minute spot to fill due to a reschedule/cancellation.

I need to submit this app today, but I'm not sure if I'll make the genetics requirement. We have a 3 credit class called Genetics, Evolution & Society. Would that be ok?

dont ask random pre meds on sdn, ask the admissions office who has the only say on the matter that even matters. Though that class seems to fit the bill but who knows what they will say

Yeah, I would call but I've procrastinated and only saw that genetics requirement now, the day before it's due. I think I'll roll the dice.

if u cant ask them i think as long as the class is offered by the bio dept and its a bio class for majors its in all likelyhood fine.

Submitted!! Finally, 2 days before it's due.

That one was a chore! I haven't done any secondaries in so long, and those essays were annoying!

For those with invites, was it by e-mail? I know some of the schools I applied to just posted the notification on the online application status. Just making sure I don't need to obsessively check my online app.

Just got an invite here! By email. They're willing to let me schedule as early as next Tues, and as late as 11/19.
