Congratulations to those with interviews! I'm hoping I get some IS love next week! I was complete 10/14...:xf:

Does anyone know how OHSU chooses who gets interviews? Because I'm IS, been complete since 9/25, and live in Portland (so I wouldn't need much advanced warning for an interview) and I haven't heard a peep. Maybe it's because I have a last name near the end of the alphabet? This process would be so much less stressful if there was logical order to it!

Also, congrats to you guys for the interviews. It's the final step in this loooooong process! Maybe I'll see you guys up on the hill next week and the week after.

My secondary was just processed today, and my status page says this:

"Please note the following information about your application materials:

On your AMCAS application, you indicated an intention to take the MCAT on 07/02/2009. We will wait for the results of that test. If you choose not to take the MCAT on this date or to take an additional exam, please notify AMCAS of this change immediately. Otherwise, this notice will appear until your file is complete."

Anyone else have something like this? My score is definitely in...

I took the MCAT the same day as you and my scores are in. It says on my status page that I'm complete as of 10/9, so I'm guessing not to worry... Every other school has gotten my MCAT scores and they're definitely on my AMCAS application (I checked), so I'm sure OHSU has them.

Forgive me for asking this, but I couldn't find the answer on the website and I felt dumb leaving this question on the message machine that you get when you call the admissions office (now I wish I had).
My deadline is 10/22. Tomorrow. Does that mean midnight tomorrow?? There is no time specified.
With my other apps I played it safe but somehow this one is down to the wire.
I'm exhausted/sick/loopy/have to get up for work at 6.... so I am deciding whether to try to finish it now or get some sleep and finish it after work tomorrow evening.
Should I assume the deadline is MIDNIGHT on 10/22?

Thanks, guys =)

secondary application submitted: 10/13/2009
file complete: 10/22/2009

yay! Hopefully I'll get an interview before the end of the year!

Does someone know how to gain residency in Oregon by any chance?

OHSU's standards for "residency" are a little stricter than the DMV's. They seem to require residency for 12 months (prior to matriculation), and they have a 2 page document in the secondary outlining how they determine your residency. The first stipulation is having residency established by Sept. 2009 (for this application cycle), the second is having your AMCAS residency listed as Oregon. It goes on from there, but those are the 2 big qualifiers.

Wow, that's tough. I guess there's no chance of getting a year or two at a discounted rate then.

Is there a page with the school's tuition/fees for IS and OOS? I can't find one anywhere!

I logged on to the admissions portal and there was a link from the main menu to the estimated tuition and fees for both IS and OOS. I don't know if you've looked there already, but it was there for me.

Ahh. Good find. Thanks!

Hi,

To those of you who received interview invites, was the invitation via e-mail only, or was there an accompanying status update on the admissions portal?

Best,

Both.

For those of you who had interviews yesterday and last week, how did they go? I was busy up on 12K in Kohler Pavilion so I didn't get to see any of the groups but I hope you guys enjoyed it.

Congrats everyone with invites! And thanks for posting!

Complete 09/24 OOS. I think I've been passed.

It's been fun, OHSU.

congrats on the interviews.. did any oos' get invites here yet?!

do the ohsu status updates show if you've been reviewed and put on hold? or does it continue to say that the application is complete and under review?

At the risk providing false hope, I point out that there are people who's applications were completed after mine and Go Ducks, and who received invitations nearly two weeks before Go Ducks and I did.

I can only conclude that OHSU's admissions office does the reasonable thing of ranking applicants first, then inviting them in order of their rank. You may be anywhere on the remainder of that ranked list.

Thank you for the congratulations greenbeans08, and best of luck to you.

Ditto. Complete 9/21. I think people in this thread have been put on hold via online status though, so if you're not on hold yet, there still might be hope. At least that's what I've been telling myself. 😛

I can agree that they would offer interviews first based on how they rank the applicants but what I don't understand is how they rank them. I am IS and was complete 9/25 and about the only average thing about my app is my GPA and no word from them yet. I'm not saying it to be arrogant but I'm trying to make a point that I don't understand how they rank. Of course it could be possible that those with interviews are sporting 4.0/45 and some amazing EC's that I couldn't even dream of. But that doesn't really make sense since one invitee said he had average numbers with some pretty good EC's so...

I really doubt this is the case, and that certainly doesn't describe me. OHSU does not do a traditional rolling admissions, so I doubt they adhere to some strict protocol for determining when someone gets an interview. Last year I submitted my secondary to OHSU around the same time as someone else I knew, who shared stats similar to mine. Our completion dates were two months apart, interview dates were a month apart. OHSU tends to do things at their own pace and in a seemingly unpredictable order. On the other hand, because they don't do traditional rolling admissions, you are at no disadvantage receiving an interview invite later in the cycle. I can understand how it's stressful though...

They definitely do not rank applicants. Do you think they read through 5,000 applications just to rank them all before sending out interviews? OHSU's admissions office is well known for being slow--very, very slow. Just look at when they sent out secondaries. Because they are about the only school in the nation that doesn't do rolling admissions, they have no reason to worry about interviewing candidates in a timely fashion or interviewing them in any kind of order.

My guess is that when you application gets a complete, it gets shot over to the desk of a screener. If you get a fast screener, or a screener with a lot of easy applications, or one with fewer applications, you get an answer faster. This is the only reasonable explanation that I can find.

My first time around, I didn't get an interview invite until March. I was complete for a loooong time before hearing a word. I didn't get in, but then again back then all of my ECs were research-oriented. My stats are the average for OHSU acceptance.

I've been through a year of waiting and rejections. Not getting in the first time around was actually a great thing for me. I got a lot of amazing experiences that I couldn't get in school. I wouldn't give that back for the world--although at the time, those rejections were devastating. Plus, because I have cool medical ECs now, I'm having luck at more schools. Last year: not even waitlisted anywhere. This year: it looks like I'll have choices.

IS. Interview invite yesterday. Complete 10/14 ish 🙂

Invite yesterday, congrats to everyone else who got one too. IS, secondary submitted on 9/21 and complete on 9/23. Good luck to those waiting, I thought I had been passed over or put on hold since I saw people complete in early to mid-Oct getting invites but I guess it just took a little while and Go Ducks theory sounds pretty reasonable.

Does anyone know if it's possible to gain Oregon residency and pay IS tuition for years 2-4?

Does anyone know if it's possible to gain Oregon residency and pay IS tuition for years 2-4?
Not possible.

You'd need a gap year where you did not attend school in order to establish residency.

Does anyone know the link to last year's interview feedback? I have never been able to find those things on SDN.

btw

Invite 10/30
Completed 10/13

Right at the top of this page, in the blue bar, there is an option to click on "interview feedback." Go there and then click allopathic schools and then find OHSU.

anyone know what time the interview day ends here?

anyone know what time the interview day ends here?

It's variable. You'll have a morning session where they go over some basics about the school, tuition, etc, 2 interviews, a lunch with students, and a tour. If both of your interviews are in the morning, you'll be done right after the tour (around 1:30). If you have one or both of your interviews in the afternoon, you'll be done later.

You will probably have some time to kill between interviews and interview day events. Bring a book or something else to entertain yourself with.

Hello,

I have a question regarding WICHE status if anyone can help.

My secondary has been processed, but they have not yet received my WICHE certification letter. I have completed all of the necessary WICHE paperwork. Does anyone know if I need to actually send them a copy of the letter, or do they use the database and just take care of it themselves?

Thanks

I was wondering if anyone has been granted an interview for the dual program of MD/MPH? I'm trying to get into this program, but I just noticed that my application says it was put on hold. I have pretty good stats, tons of experience, and I am in-state. I don't want to get discouraged already, but it says that the on-hold status may not be resolved until late February if it takes that long to get through the applicant pool before deciding to interview me.
Thanks for any comments! 😳)

AHHHH!!! Yessssss... Interview Invite!! :soexcited: Jumping up and down.. so excited!

I'm so happy.. I worked so hard on their freakin' essays, I'm glad it paid off. lol

Should I be concerned that on my status page it STILL says that they are waiting on my MCAT from June 18th and that they STILL haven't received my letters?

I submitted 9/23 (the same day I received it) and it says my application has been "processed" but it's still missing all this stuff. I tried finding a number to call, but had no luck. Anyone else having this problem??

Oh and I'm sure people are wondering, but they're onto December interview dates now. They had several dates in the beginning of december all the way up to 12/17.
