well i actually didnt talk to the lady, but she left a message. i was in another interview at the time she called. i wonder why they call some and not others. weird

The better question is why I haven't I gotten even a rejection after over 2 weeks since my status change. Does it really take that long to put a single piece of paper into an envelope? I know it doesn't because I do that stuff all the time volunteering (of course in this case it's thank you letters for donations).

Have you tried calling?

Well I interviewed a month ago and I haven't even gotten a status change to "decision made." 🙄

I did earlier this week and they said they're working on it. I didn't give my name or anything. I'm thinking if nothing by Friday I'll do it again and give my name. Honestly I'd rather know if I'm rejected!

Yeah, but at least in your case they can't tell you the decision because they haven't made it yet. In my case they've had the decision for over 2 weeks so I should know by now.

Well I dont know if you remember but I was the guy who didn't have a decision made on his file for a long time. So as soon as the decision was made on my file, I called in. And told them that I was waiting for them so I could cancel my other interviews (truth), so the guy took my name and he had a counselor call me with my acceptance. I'm not sure if they will do the same with rejections though, but its worth a try.

OR

if they refuse to do it, then you can probably tell that you didn't get in.

True. Though I'm still wondering what the hold-up is with my file. Anyone know how often the committee meets?

With other schools they bring the interviewer(s) to the committee meetings to help decide. If Upstate does this, it could be one or more of your interviewer(s) holding it up. Not sure if they do though.

I'm pretty sure they do not have the interviewers attend the committee meeting. This impression is based on something my interviewer said.

For those who have interviewed or been invited to interview, how long were your essays?? I don't see any length requirements. Obviously, my essays will be long enough to adequately answer the prompts but I want to get an idea of what others did. Any feedback will be appreciated.

mine was a page and a half single spaced, but i dont think either of my interviewers read them.

2.75 pages single space :scared: . I went a little out of control with details 🙁

Truthfully I wish I'd done that (since you got in and I'm assuming I'm rejected). At the time I wrote the essays I was thinking it was primarily to guide my interviewer so I made them short and simple. In my usual awkward writing style of course. However, I would have put many more hours into them had I realized the entire admissions board would be hearing them aloud.

i dont think it has much bearing on your application so I wouldn't fixate on it. i think it's just a way for your interviewers to get acquainted with you, but oddly enough i dont think my interviewers read them!

Thanks for the input guys!! I think I'll end up with 2 pages, I just finished the second prompt and that was 1 pg. The 1st prompt seems juicer so that should be at least 1 pg..

Goodluck everyone!!!

Mine were about 1.75 pages single spaced total for both questions. I also got accepted, so I must have done something right 😛

accepted
complete 8/12
interview 9/09
acceptance call (left a message) 10/21

accepted. 1 page single space total.

Congrats to all of u with acceptances, I hope some of it rubs off.. 😀😀😀

I'll stick with 2 pgs, it's the first even number...🙄🙄

just to pitch in, I was accepted too and my essays were 2.5 pages. One interviewer was reading it as the interview progressed but I was under the impression that he had skimmed it ahead of time because he knew where I was from. My second interviewer read it with a fine-tooth comb. Some other people's interviewers had no idea what they had written so it could go either way. My $0.02!

SUNY Upstate finally sent me that email that said I'm on preinterview hold.

Reading the email carefully let me know (in the nicest way possible) that I would NOT get an interview anytime soon. I mean, there is no chance that there's anything left after the ENTIRE application cycle has been evaluated before my file get a second review:laugh:

Mayo (post LOR request and sec fee)and SUNY both rejected me, but I think SUNY Upstate did it in such a way that it does not hurt.

Job well done SUNY Upstate! :meanie:

2.75 pages is a lot in my opinion- wow. mine was jsut under 1.5 pgs. accepted last week. my interviewer just used it as a conversation piece. but you can assume that anything you write/send to the schools is going to be scrutinized and will have some bearing on acceptance decisions.

Don't ask me how I found this out, but yesterday I learned I'm either on the HPA or the bad list. Not very helpful since one basically equals an acceptance and the other basically equals rejection.

Why the hell wont they just tell you?

Just got an interview invite. There are spots available as soon as early November. Is there a major advantage to interviewing earlier, or can I wait until early January? Thnx

Personally I'd do it sooner rather than later. If you do it early November there will be more open spots and more good waitlist spots. Waiting 2 months to interview is probably only going to hurt your chances.

Thats strange. I got the interview invite early october but the first available date was Middle November

It's probably from people who had interviews scheduled, but canceled them when they got other acceptances.

So I just took a look at the status page and it says that I've been selected for an interview, but I never got an email or phone call. Anyone else have this experience?

good luck to everyone interviewing! I interviewed earlier and was accepted. Definitely one of the nicest schools around. I'm pretty sure everyone was over-prepared for the interview. It was very low stress. Good luck!

i'm in the interview pre-hold 🙁

this means apparently that they haven't even seen my file
just screened me out
and will review me early next year. maybe after they my first semester masters grades in maybe.

anyone else in this situation?

Wow. Haven't checked this one in a while and like others, I have an interview invite sitting on my status page. I wonder how long it's been there? Do they EVER send out invite emails?? Scheduling it now..

I had the same problem... Other people seemed to have received emails. But this was weird... made me worry if i need to keep checking status pages of other schools to make sure i did not miss anything.😱

Yup. Same here. I think I want to give them a call about it.

Same thing happened to me. I checked the status page and it said I had been invited to interview there. I scheduled it, got a confirmation email, and four days later I got an email from them telling me I had been invited to interview.

So finally they sent me the email. Hold by committee alternate list. Ie, the bad alternate list that they haven't gotten to in 8 years.

Has anyone else not heard anything from this school? I've been complete since 9/15 and no word. It just says I'm complete and nothing else. 🙁

So I just called them this morning and I was told that this does indeed mean that we have been invited for an interview, and that we did not get an email because email are sent on Wednesdays only 🙂confused🙂.

When you schedule the interview, they give you two essay prompts. 😡

just had my interview on monday. suny upstate surprised me becuase it was much better than i had envisioned it to be. the people there were really nice, especially my student host, the cab driver that took me from teh airport, and one of my interviewers. but i really appreciated them having a smaller group of interviewees because it became much more friendly... perhaps now im thinking that a 50 class size might > 120 and > 160. but .... i have no iidea. it was nice that u could say hi to everyone and reconginze everyone and say bye to almost everyone on the way out, ocmpared to most of my other interviewes where u hardly know half the people, or ecen said hi to them... =) good job suny upstate!

Interview Invite!!! YEAAAYYYYY!!!! Finally 🙂

Complete 9/15. Woop-Woop. Now, how to do I get to Syracuse if I can't drive. Yeay, Amtrak.

Yay!!!! Just checked my status page - interview invite!!!!:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:
