Dark navy skirt suit (yes...despite my username I am a female, not a transvestite - benny = my poodle). Also, I am really tall for a girl, almost 5'11...so that will probably dead giveaway. What time is your interview? Mine is an afternoon one so I do not have to get there till 11:45.

According to my email about my interview with them, it said if you have an afternoon interview, you have to be there by 10:45. Just FYI in case you misread the information...

Yepyep - you're right! I was going to prep tonight because I live in philly, so hadnt looked too closely at the details - thanks for the heads up though good looking out!

I decided not to attend the interview because it would take Temple reducing its OOS tuition by 30% for me to be able to justify attending over my IS options. It's an awesome school though, so best of luck to anyone yet to interview or waiting on an acceptance! :luck:

I haven't really gotten a straight answer for this, but is the location around Temple really as bad as some people make it out to be?

yes, the location around temple is pretty bad. If u do attend here, u prolly do not want to live inside 3 mile radius. it wouldnt matter much since u will be commuting only. I live in philly so i know.

What happens? Like shootings, robberies, rapes, stuff like that?

Yeah. All of the above.

It's so bad that the entire medical campus has stadium lighting (the sun never sets on Temple).

Not an understatement. Last time I was over there I saw gravestones on a corner and a man just roaming around with blood leaking from all over his body...doors stay on lock!

It's not that bad. It is a bad neighborhood, but its not so awful. During the day, it is perfectly safe. It's on a busy street with people all around all the time. There are also security guards in towers in several places. At night, the entire area is lit up. The parking garage is 1 block over, well lit, and there are security guards there too. Sure, I wouldn't leave my car unlocked, but people really exaggerate how bad it is.

Thanks for freaking me out before my interview tmw, guys. 🙄

i have been living in philly for the past 10 years, been around temple medical campus bunch of times and never had trouble
There is a lot of security around and as long as you don't aimlessly wonder around the neighborhoods you should be fine

^^^ speaks the truth. On or directly around campus you're fine. It's the block or two in the wrong direction you gotta look out for. That and the PPA...they'll rob you blind regardless of your location 👎

PPA? Philadelphia Parking Authority?

lol. yup! I disdain the PPA with a passion. They're out of control

I remember coming from the interview at TUSM last week, obviously better dressed than anyone else around. I had to take the BSL up to Fern Rock. I thought I was going to get gang raped on my way from the school to the subway. But I guess I looked like a doctor, so everyone was cool XD

Hi! I withdrew my application from this school today by e-mail. I still don't have a confirmation but this will mean an open interview slot for February 3rd.

The tuition is just way too expensive compared to my state school, which has a similar ranking and is half the price.

Good luck!

Nothing like a little excitement in the morning when you're going to class, I guess.

Hey, you happen to be my MCAT Twin. Haven't seen too many people with that sort of MCAT. Good to see that you are accepted somewhere, gives me a lot of hope. I have had six interviews so far, 2 rejections, 1 wailtist, and still waiting to hear from the other three. Good Luck with med school. 👍

Just checked today..interviewed on December 16th...does anyone know if this means straight up rejected or is there a possibility of getting waitlisted?

It's possible for either rejection or waitlist from the letter.

Yeah. All of the above.

so, in essence, you are saying that It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?

anyone still under review? will they tell you when that's done?

Well, regardless of location, the school itself is fantastic...definitely worth considering.

There has been a whole fuss and discussion about area surrounding temple so I ll just go down right to the point.

If you have always lived in suburban enviroment and like it very much, forget about this school.

If you have always lived in city or like city life very much, consider this school.

Above statement could not have been more accurate. so u decide where u at.
Good luck everyone hope it helps

Me too, this school doesn't reject pre-interview right?
Or am I confusing it with someplace else?

Pretty sure they do reject pre-interview. At least that's what I fuzzily recall from last year's cycle. 😛

And I was really impressed with the school. Out of all the places I've interviewed so far, Temple is in the top 2. Great facilities, great students, great clinical training. Only downside is again -- the cost. Yes, the area around the school can be a little rough, but good housing can be found close by and public transportation makes it easy to get around. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Anyone know if Temple releases where on the waitlist an applicant is positioned (such as bottom 1/3, middle 1/3, top 1/3)?

Hm. Good question. Not sure here, they didn't mention it during my interview. Perhaps call and ask?

And does anyone know how much the student interview counts towards admissions decisions? I honestly felt like my student interview wasn't even an interview. I didn't get asked any questions, and my interviewer kept talking and hardly let me get a word in edgewise. Nothing against her (she was extremely talkative & friendly), but after it was over, I don't think she got to know much about me at all... which worries me.

they start taking from the waitlist in march...if things go like they did last year. I got pulled from the waitlist mid-march before receiving my 1/3 placement (i think those come in may/june)

Thanks for that glimmer of hope 👍

I disagree. I live in a very nice suburb, and so do about half of the people in my class. There are lots of options. You won't be living right around the school, but just a few miles away in almost every direction will bring you to a variety of places to live.

I hate it when people from the suburbs don't understand city life". I used to live near Philly and currently lives in Oakland. Yes I hear gunshots every night, yes there are crack heads on my street corn, and the worse are the hoes that turn tricks in front of the church (going to hell for sure!). However, it doesn't affect you unless you go poking your nose around. Here is the deal, it's a city and every city has a bad neighborhood. The right way to handle yourself is give respect and get respect.

If you walk by some "shady" looking people, don't ignore them and walk faster. That is simply rude. Say hello, how are you? Give respect because you don't know them and who they are. They might not be bad people and if they are everyone likes manners and no one likes a douche.

At the same time, command respect by walking upright and giving the presence of "hey don't mess with me and I won't mess with you" Acting like a puss* will surely result in an ass kicking.

Seriously it's not that bad...just as long as yo don't wonder around by yourself late at night in a dark alley, or make friends with gang members, or scuff the shoe of the guy with 5 tear drops (I saw a guy with so many he was literally crying)...you'll be okay

nope. temple med school is right in the heart of the city. few miles away u ll still be in city. besides most students who go to temple live either in center city or in areas that are pretty much like cities. someone who has pretty much lived in suburban area all his life isn't going to like it considering the area and stuff which i wont go deep into. u really have to love city life. u can come here and cry when u go home next 4 yrs of ur life lol

I think I came out really negative when i said u can go home and cry for next 4 yrs of ur life. I wanna say that temple is the school i personally go to even if i got accepted to top 5 med school. area personally is not even a problem. I want to help people and give back to community where it needs help and I dont care about having best things in life.Temple can help me do that. But area is certainly a problem for many premeds. and i agree with ygree001 thoughts and i think that is wut I was trying to say when i was comparing suburban and city life style.

I know exactly where the med school is, and yes, it is in the city. I also know where I live, and that is 6 miles away, a 20-30 minute drive, in a very nice suburb.
Also, there are very different parts of the city. Just because you live in Philadelphia does not mean you have to live in a neighborhood like that around the school.
My point is just that people shouldn't think that if they go to Temple they will end up living in a horrible neighborhood. There are lots of options.

I'm withdrawing my acceptance this week (and getting my deposit back wahoo), so those of you on the waitlist good luck! 🙂

From what my student interviewer told me, the second interview is informal and is used to get to know your personality. It's supposed to be a conversation so they can see if you would be a good fit at Temple. I wouldn't worry if she didn't ask you any questions.

That's great news for me, as I thought I connected very well with my student interviewer. The Adcom interviewer seemed overly serious, but she seemed to agree with everything I said about the health system...We shall see.

😍Accepted via email! Interviewed 12/3. So happy! This was by far my favorite school of all the schools I interviewed at.

Can anyone who's interviewed here give me a timeline on how long they waited before they heard back? Thanks 🙂
