Did anybody else here interview on 19 Nov? We had a pretty friendly group of people, but I didn't ask anyone their SDN names. One guy I asked had never heard of SDN!

Hey I'm new to the thread, interviewed on 11/19, and am probably the guy that has never heard of SDN until now! I agree with Tenbusu, everyone was very friendly and everyone I talked to said they all thought their interviews went really well. Was this the case during all the other interview dates?

I interviewed on 10/29 and everyone was really great from the others interviewing to the interviewers. SDN didn't come up, but if anyone is one here from the interview date, hope everything is going well and you all made it home alright!

So, I have no personal experience with this (priors lurking out there, step up!), but my understanding is that this stems from discrepancies in the standards used to determine "Hardship Duty Pay" between the two services. I don't think this happens in CONUS (contiguous US) settings, but in certain OCONUS (outside the contiguous US) settings, you can be given hardship pay if it is determined that the conditions are sub-standard. I've heard from some of the prior service kids in my class, that some of the OCONUS Army bases which are perfectly suitable as far as the Army is concerned, are below Air Force standards to the degree that AF people stationed on said bases receive hardship pay. I have no idea what this means...I did a quick google search and it doesn't seem that the criteria are publicly available. Maybe it's a golf course thing? You'll kind of get the gist of it as soon as you cruise around an AF base for the first time after being on Army posts...it's kind of like going to a country club.

This sounds about right. When I went through avionics school in Pensacola, the Air Force kids got extra pay because the Navy base was below their standards. I think it was because we had no carpeting. I am not even kidding.

Unconditional Acceptance today. Interviewed 9/17

We had a long discussion about this point one time while trying to kill time in Korea. The AF does in fact receive extra pay at some locations, but it is not hardship duty pay though commonly called HDP. HDP comes in 3 flavors. HDP-L (Location) is based on your specific location and is in increments of $50 up to $150. The locations are determined by DOD and the same for all services. HDP-M (Mission) is based on the job you are assigned to. This is mostly the Joint groups that search for and identify POW/MIA personnel in Laos, Cambodia, North Korea, Vietnam etc. HDP-I (Involuntary Extension) is for personnel involuntarily extended in a location. Mostly it happens in Iraq/Afghanistan. More information and the location/amt for all HDP can be found here.

As it was explained to me, the reason the AF sometimes gets extra pay is because the gov't quarters on a certain base may not provide the AF minimum amount of living space. All three services have different standards. For example, consider an O-1 staying in unaccompanied transient housing (like you would be assigned to for a school). The AF requires a minimum of 460 sq ft. The Navy requires 250 sq ft and the Army requires 90 sq ft (sorry XMSR3). If an AF personnel is staying on a Navy base that only provides 250 sq ft, that person would receive partial BAH (Basic Allowance for Housing) to make up the difference in minimum standards.

I found the most current housing standards that I could for each service. If you are bored and care to read them here they are.

I was in on the Nov 19 Interview. It was a very friendly group with a lot less kids in uniform than I expected.

Wait a minute, does this mean that Army housing, (outside of USUHS of course) consists of a 90 sq ft nook? That seems unlikely, since while at OBLC they house us in some kind of hotel, (which I heard somewhere was the single officers quarters). Pictures of the rooms at this hotel indicated a bedroom, a kitchenette and a bathroom, all of which could not fit in only 90 sq ft.

Negative Ghostrider. It just means the minimum acceptable size is 90 sq ft. Most accommodations (particularly those recently renovated) will be much larger. I would guess that the most likely place to find small accommodations are the smaller bases overseas. I know the accommodations at several of the Army bases in Korea are extremely small. If it makes you feel better, we had 3 people living in 45 sq ft on the ship. It can be done.

After spending 12 hours shivering my ass off in 30 degree windchill, (wet, windy and wearing shorts) and trying to jam myself under a bush, (maybe 4 square ft) on a volcano in Maui, I would honestly be happy with a cot and a blanket, (oh and a bathroom if its not too much to ask😀). If I am lucky enough to get a bed, well then to me its like staying at the 4 seasons.😀

By the way NavyCy, regarding Navy Federal credit union, (I read on the military med forums that you're a member) is there any fee to join, (other than having at least $5 in your savings account)?

It seems that their cash back visa card offers superior % cash back to that offered by USAA and I have heard their auto loans offer lower interest rates.

I'm almost afraid to ask, but are you "practicing" for the Army by camping?

Got the unconditional acceptance letter yesterday (Navy, Anchors Aweigh!), didn't expect problems but still a relief to have everything done. My personal timeline includes an interview invitation August 31st , interview on October 1st, conditional acceptance on November 1st, and unconditional acceptance November 20th. I graduated from undergrad last year and I am in a one-year MS program in neurobiology right now.

Congrats to those who have received good news and good luck to those who are still waiting, much too soon for despair (in the med school cycle and life for that matter)

Congrats... Navy has to be close to full, if sdn is any indication. Seems the same as last year where Navy filled early and a lot of USNA people had to go to the wait list.

No he was hiking a volcano in HI and got lost and had to spend the night on the mountain and get rescued...

Oh, he's talking about that incident. I thought he was talking about another one.

Don't know if I can take the high road much longer........

Does anyone have the number for the lady that runs the dodmerb stuff at usuhs?

I got my unconditional acceptance which outlined the conditions for my acceptance lol (finish my degree, take a drug test at officer training, take a HIV test, etc.).

i interviewed on 11/19 too, yea everyone seemed like they did well on their interviews. now nervously awaiting news.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. Interviewed 10/8 so getting a little worried.

10/15 here. After checking the thread history, it looks like they have made calls as late as 2:15 PST. Work is going to be terrible, jumping every time I think my phone buzzes.

Huh, so no activity today then?
I imagine we have now moved off the 1st-and-15th schedule, which will surely lead to higher levels of chronic stress. 🙂

I've been stressed all day around my phone .. I should stop being on SDN.

Oh that's sad! I was somewhat liking the 1st/15th thing - at least you sort of had an idea when it was coming. Now all bets are off. 10/22-er wooo! Have any 10/22-ers heard yet? From what I can tell, seems like not...

If you can believe it, I actually got a call from the 301 area code (I'm in Ca; this has never happened before). No voicemail though.

Does somebody maybe want to pm me the number (or at least part of the number) from which cdr Calloway called?

Conditional Navy acceptance!!!! Interviewed 10/1, non-prior.

I am sure many others will be getting good calls today. 🙂 Good luck!

Good deal, thanks for the info. And congratulations on the acceptance.

Conditional acceptance Army. Interviewed 10/15. Prior service. Yay.

Umm, Navy sure is filling up super fast. Good luck, guys.

Conditional Acceptance today! I didn't even know they do this by phone call, so I was totally surprised. Can't wait to get my papers in the mail! 1st acceptance so far, but it's my #1.

Interview Invite: Sept. 28th; Interview: Oct. 15; Conditional: Dec. 2nd @ 6:10PM whoops make that 1810.

I hope everything goes okay and this "conditional" thing becomes an unconditional! Good luck to everybody else waiting for acceptances!

Conditional, Navy, Non-Prior, Oct. 15th, cried.

Lol, congratulations everyone. Looks like they cleared out the rest of the Oct 15th interviews. Hopefully they have one more round before their xmas break. Im sure all of those military members don't take a month long leave like normal universities get.

Congrats to everyone.

Interviewed Sept. 24th and still haven't heard. I thought they would have sent "the letter" by now. I would really like to know whether I'm alternate list or rejection.

Interview invite today via email. Will be interviewing on January 21st.

Any chance you could PM me as well, would really appreciate it.

Question

1)Who usually makes the acceptance phone calls? I just want to know if I'll be meeting that person in the future.

2)When do we report to Bethesda? I looked through the packet I received at the interview, and it says the Officer Training starts in early June, but do we have to be there earlier than that?

Thanks!

1. Dr. Calloway. You might see her a bit once you start school, but she's the dean of admissions so she doesn't have much to do with you once you're here. If you go to second look in the spring, you'll see her there.

2. First week in August (the 5th for us). You'll go from your home now to ODS/COT/OBLC and then generally people go from there to Bethesda unless you've got to go back to get your car or move stuff or something.

Congrats every one! 🙂

Has anyone that interviewed on October 22 heard any news about acceptance, waitlist, or rejection?
