1. On April fools day, anything goes. I've had way worse jokes pulled on me. From pregnancy jokes to dead dogs.

2. I said it was a joke 18 min afterwards.

3. If you can't take the stress from a joke how are you gonna handle medical school stress?

4. I am stressing out about UAB as much as you are ERS who is obviously a girl by using the word "cute".

5. Sudden increased heart rate is good for the cardiovascular system.

6. Bears eat beets. Fact.

7. I'm sure we will find out something tomorrow. Whatever happens, happens. Good luck to everyone.

8. You can all be sure that karma is an evil b**** and I will prob be rejected.

Let's put it this way - in one word - your attempt at humor was "immature" to say the least.

I was disappointed not to hear anything today...perhaps tomorrow? I think the committee meets on Thurs.? Good luck you guys.

Let the compulsive email checking begin...

The buildup is slowly eating away at my brain....

Gotten three false alarms already today. Does anyone know how to get off ticketmaster's waiting list? Geez

I just woke up from a very vivid nightmare that I was rejected from UAB. Agh.

Haven't all the notifications this year been on Fridays after 3 pm?

Nah, I think I was rejected on a Tuesday last year.

Many have. Some on Thurs for outta state. Last year the waitlist came out on Tues at around 11PM. Two years ago, however, it was friday after 3PM.

Guh! I just got my two week reminder for my MCAT.... I really hope I hear something from UAB so I can stop stressing over both.... :bang:

Hope u don't have to but if u end up having to take it, good luck! I have a bunch of EK books and the 1,001 books if u want them. Let me know.

And I have MCAT Audio Osmosis. It is awesome...and I also have all the KAPLAN books...I'm not going to retake the MCAT...EVER so if you need anything I will definitely give it to you!

That MCAT audio osmosis, as corney as it is, is very good and is great to listen to at work or in the car. I downloaded it from thepiratebay.org and it was great. I think that plus the 1,001 books really help

I was thinking about getting audio osmosis, but I never did. I took the PR class which I actually really liked. It kicked my butt, but I feel really prepared compared to last year. I like the 1001 books too, I've been using them along with my class. I've been doing surprisingly well on my practice tests, but taking the real thing scares me...

has anyone heard anything that indicate whether or not we'll be hearing today? any "insider" gossip? i'm desperate.

Sorry, I'm out of gossip. I'll ask my brother if he knows anything.

He didn't answer. I thought the gastro test was this morning, but maybe it's going on right now. Sorry!

It started at 12:30PM but they're out now (ones I knew taking it but may have been multiple test times).

I believe there are 3 sittings for the exams at UASOM--aren't enough computers in their test room for all 170+ of them.

Ah, well then he's probably busy frolicking in the hallways or something. He's coming home tonight so I'll ask him then. And his girlfriend's dad teaches renal and she's coming too so I'll find out what she knows. Right now I'm thinking we should all chill out and enjoy the holiday weekend. But boo to my biochemistry teacher for having homework due Monday. What's up with that?

Just from this post I realized that I think I know/went to school with your brother!!! He went to Birmingham-Southern right?

Yep. And I have a brother who is a freshman there now. And another brother who goes to UAH with me. I'm so outnumbered.

But anyways they just got here and neither of them knows anything. Bums. 🙂 Well except that the person I told you guys got in from BSC a few days ago actually got in about two weeks ago, sorry for the mistake. That and the gastro test was really hard. Apparently some people cried. Yeesh.

Is it possible to buy these and how much will they cost? Thanks.

I'm seriously going to go insane! I thought we were going to hear something yesterday.

Well I'm guessing we're not going to hear anything on a Monday...

but at this point I really have no clue when we will hear something, so who knows.

Hi, everyone. I have been lurking for a while, but I registered so I could share this with you.

I sent this via e-mail on Friday:
"Can you provide any indication when waitlist notifications will be made?"

and got this in response this morning:
".at this time we do not have a timeline but we have been informed that this is their priority and they are diligently on this issue….thanks and have a great day!"
.

So there you have it, for what it may be worth.

I am in the same situation as many of you. I interviewed in October and felt good about the experience but have heard nothing since. I'm puzzled because my stats are strong - 38/3.7, bachelor's and master's degrees in engineering, a couple years of work experience, good ECs. I am weaker on shadowing and med-related volunteer experience than many of you because I didn't start doing it until after I figured out I wanted to change careers and quit my engineering job to go back to school and take the required chem and bio courses. Literally everyone I talked to thought I would have no trouble getting in at UAB, but now I am afraid I won't even manage to snag one of the last seats in the class. I really want to go there b/c (aside from the quality of education and reputation of the school) my wife and I already own a home in the area, and she really loves her job here. I got my acceptance from USA less than 2 weeks after the interview. I'm dying to know what they see in me that UAB doesn't.
.
.

Anyway, thought you all might like to know that the adcom is ".diligently on this issue".. [Sigh]

Dang man, 38/3.7? WTF is up with UABs interview/accept process. Doesn't make any sense. Good luck though, hopefully we'll hear something soon.

Is it possible to buy these and how much will they cost? Thanks.

I got all the exam kracker stuff from Amazon and it was like $100 for the EK study set. Like $20 a piece for the 1,001 books and $40 for the Verbal book which was good but I still sucked at verbal. The audio osmosis I got for free from thepiratebay.org. I can part with the 1,001 books (don't have organic) for free but like 2/3rds of the problems are already answered and there are prob doodles and s*** in the margins, haha. If you really want the books I think the best thing is to just buy them from Amazon. But if u want mine you're free to have them. I'd give away all my Kaplan stuff but I burned it all in a massive bonfire. Very therapeutic, I recommend it.

Hahahahaha. That's really funny. I have to save mine for my younger brother. Hey though, Kaplan has a Facebook application that is pretty cool and sometimes they run specials for their science review. It's pretty good.

Maybe they're sending the notices via owl post. Seriously though, how many people are waiting to hear vs. already know? I know I could search through the 15 pages of the thread and figure it out, but that would take a long time.

Unfortunately, we're a small percentage of the applicant pool.

This year a little more than 10 I think have said it on the forum but we only represent a small amount of people who applied.

Oh, I know we're just a small percentage. I just wasn't sure if everybody that is regularly posting is waiting, or if some people already know, etc. I have about three FB friends that are waiting and then whoever is on here. So maybe 15 of us that don't know? I'm just thinking that there has to be some good news in there somewhere!

Let's hope so! :xf:

Just thinking out loud....

For those of us that are also waiting on USA: Does UAB's newest delay ripple to South and cause an even later decision date (past April 15th)? Because I had planned to hear from UAB and then wait again for South (therefore giving me continued hope if UAB rejects me). Now I'm beginning to wonder if the news will come at the same time from both schools causing complete jubilation or utter dismay....

from what i've heard south's delay is an effect of uab's delay and so we won't hear anything from south until after uab gets their ducks in a row. this is according to pegs from the usa admission's office.

Speaking of South...I still can't figure out why I didn't get an interview there. :-(

i think you're right. uab and south talk regularly. it's in each school's best interest to know who the other is offering acceptances. when south announced that they were waiting till april 15th it was likely because of uab's delay. south doesn't want to offer anybody that has been accepted to uab and is for sure going there because it hurts their rates.

Its true that south is waiting on UAB but not for this reason. south could care less about their rates, the reason they are waiting is to see how many students are going to get accepted to UAB that they have already accepted. its no secret UAB is their biggest competitor. south typically overfills their class expecting an estimated amount to go elsewhere. South cant accurately estimate this year how many people have multiple acceptances and thus cant with confidence send out anymore acceptances before UAB makes final decisions.
