Just got accepted off of the top 1/3 of the waitlist this morning! :soexcited:

Seems like the waitlist is moving extremely fast! If it keeps moving at this rate, I'm sure many of you guys will have acceptances before you know it. Good luck to everyone still waiting 👍 :luck:

DrHKitty's Friend (A: 4/8, 1st Tier)
Alethea (A: 4/16, 1st Tier)

DrHKitty's Friend (A: 4/8, 1st Tier)

I have another acquaintance that got off the upper third about a week ago. If we keep a good count maybe that'll tell us how many are on each tier

Hopefully we aren't doubling counting.

My friend goes to bama and does some research at UAB in opthalmology.

I don't really know this guy. He's a mutual friend's brother but I do know he's already graduated a year or two ago. His last name starts with a vowel if that helps.

I wonder how they pick people off the waiting list from the same tier? Is there an already-set order to each third?

Yeah, the order is already set, so they just go down the list.

My friend's last name starts with an F. So the above holds true. Anyone know of others who have gotten in off of the waitlist?

Accepted from the top third this morning. Best of luck to all.

Awesome! Are you going to go to UAB?

A friend of mine (male, IS, UAB undergrad student) was accepted off the top 1/3 roughly 2 days after they sent out the WL emails. I don't think he's been counted yet.

I really hope they hit the middle third by May 15

Last year they were on the lower tier by June 6... so hopefully this year won't be THAT different

I actually had a friend who got in off the lower third in May last year. Maybe June 6th is just the first person who posted on here. Let's hope for the same amount of movement!

Hey everyone. I was accepted off the Top 1/3 of the waitlist today. Hopefully the list is moving fast. Good luck to all of you!

Were either of you holding acceptances or waitlist for South Alabama? And are you going to choose UAB?

I was accepted off the top 1/3 today at 2:05 PM!

Congrats - hope that wait list keeps moving this fast - must be all of those OOSers going away - hope they keep moving!!!

Weren't you a reapplicant crimsonred? If so, what part of the waitlist were you on last year?

I was third tier last year. first tier this year.

did any re-applicants receive immediate acceptance rather than wait-listed acceptance?

I'm glad the waitlist is moving really fast. I expect to see some people from the middle tier being accepted soon eh? That makes me very hopeful... which might be a bad thing. 🙄

Same here, very glad. I reaaallly hope they start pulling from the middle third SOON!

Surely some did... I don't know if anyone on here did though.

I really wish I could have gotten first tier. I was third last year and middle this year..

What are some things they told you to work on? I am having this debate inside my head about applying again right away or waiting another year...

Basically last year all three interviewers said my app looked great, I just needed more clinical experience (which I had plenty at the time, I guess I just didn't write/talk about that enough). So I spent my off year working as a full time medical assistant with tons of patient care, just to get bumped up one tier. Man I hope I get in!

Yea, that sucks. I'm worried that'll happen to me, if I have to reapply. Did you wait until you got the official rejection last year to reapply?

Yeah, I probably should have started working on it earlier, but I was really holding out til the last second before I had to put myself through this process again. It seems like they don't interview reapplicants until late in the cycle anyways, so I guess it didn't matter that much.

Yeah, I'm not messin around with this malarkey anymore. Don't care to cite specifics, but a whole lot of fishy business going on (or so it seems). Too many good/great applicants waitlisted and rejected, and too many lesser ones accepted (I'm not talking about people on SDN necessarily, or even just UAB specifically). If I don't get off either of my two waitlists, then maybe I'll just go out of country. I've already applied to SGU in the Caribbean and probably will hit up ROSS pretty soon.

I don't feel up to another year of this torture. You reapps are pretty tough. And mature. I, on the other hand, feel everyone's been a bit mistreated, and am not sure I'm going to be able to deal with it again. If I had reapplied (after fixing my applicationn as instructed), only to be waitlisted/rejected because of an OOS overdraft (or whatever the cause), I'd feel betrayed. Don't know how you guys do it, and I surely don't want to do it next year. Especially when UAB won't give timely feedback ("someone" critical to the process is absent for an unknown period of time) so we can at least get started now in the event of having to reapply.

Hopefully I'll get into somewhere here. I talk a lot of smack, but I'd rather stay stateside if I could. Best of luck to the UAB waitlist club.

I know it's painful but... don't do it! Apply at least one more year after changing your app to reflect the feedback you get if you don't get in and also fill out the AACOMAS app so you have some options.

I know the debate has been beaten into the ground, but if I had to do it again, US DO > FMG, imho.

Best of luck to you -- hopefully you won't have to do it again!

Pshhhhhhh.......

According to your sig you had to wait ONE DAY to find out that you got accepted. (unless you were a reapplicant)

I've been waiting somewhere around 630ish days to get an acceptance, and some people have been waiting longer than I have. I think prolonging it any more than you have to is just crazy. Wait til you get your feedback then apply immediately and work on your app in the meantime.

Congrats on the acceptance though 🙂

I know everyone is really antsy about getting in, but I have kind of a simple question. Is class attendance at UAB mandatory?

you are right - we are all antsy - what a Ridiculous question - if you don't want to go to class then either don't apply or withdraw if you have applied - please!!!

This is not a ridiculous question. You are required to go to 80% of classes. You start losing pts after you have missed 20% of classes and the overall attendance is 5% of your grade. Sometimes it is good and even necessary to skip a class in order to do some hard core studying. You can always get the scripts (notes) for the classes you missed.

haha I agree, but i believe attendence is manditory. I am not sure what the penalty is for not attending though. When I went for my interview, one of the current students was saying how he hated that class was manditory bc of his learning style. Sitting in class did nothing for him. It just wasted his study time. He tried studying during class, but that wasn't very productive. so... I guess for some it would be bad, but I still think that no matter what, you should have to/want to go to class 😀
