I think there might be a little bit tomorrow, but I would expect more on Monday and all throughout next week.

Never heard of Do Dah Day!

I hope they make it all the way into the bottom third... I've been looking for a new job and I would really hate to get a new position and then get accepted. I wish I just knew right now...

Do Dah Day is a fun festival for animal lovers in Highland Park!

I just have a bad feeling that I am going to get screwed again this year and they won't make it through the middle third.

I know it's only natural for you to be worried, especially as a reapplicant, but with them already being into the middle third, it would be an enormous shock if you didn't get in this year. I hope you do.

I agree with Tully.... I think you'll hear something very soon!! 😛

For y'all keeping book on this one, accepted off middle tier, withdrew.

Good luck guys.

Its a little too quiet on here today...

The only way I can think of to kind of gauge the size of committed students is by looking at the uasom 2014 facebook group. The FB group still only has around 80 members, while last year's has 173. I know not everyone has joined that has been accepted, but it still makes you wonder. Also, a lot of people who have joined are from other years, so the true value is less than 80.

Kind of a longshot, but I wonder if anybody remembers the FB number from this time last year?

Judging by the allotment of SDN members assigned to each waitlist tier (see above), and the fact that the waitlist is estimated to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 100-120 students, indicates there are approx. 30-40 students per tier. With the aid of some fuzzy math, we can assume that 20-25% of waitlisters are documented on SDN in the above chart. That means that we have about 60-80 people left on the waitlist, and (according to facebook) there could be anywhere from 10-15 slots (if only half of the people accepted have joined the group) to 93 slots (if all people accepted have joined the fb group) remaining.

So just for fun, if you average the two, (13 +93 / 2), you end up with about 53 [potential] slots remaining, with maybe 30 or so left on the middle tier of the alternate list, and 40 on the third tier

Any theories as to why we haven't heard anything today?!

Any theories as to why we haven't heard anything today?!

I don't know, but I'm getting pretty freakin antsy. It's driving me crazy that I can't plan my immediate future at all. Can't wait to make the most important decisions of my life at the last minute! :scared:

Any theories as to why we haven't heard anything today?!

Ok several! This is for entertainment purposes only and has no basis of fact whatsoever.

1- Most likely:

The class is currently full. As people have turned down acceptances, UAB has sent them out (e.g. last week there were a couple, I think); we shot right through the first part of the WL and that has probably taken care of most of the drops up until May 15. Acceptances will continue to trickle, and we most likely won't see the end of the middle tier. Keep in mind, a majority of drops might have occured, as the first tier must have been around 40 people...and seeing as we are in the second tier, there have possibly been close to 50.

2- Facebook theory: I'm not really into facebook, but even I would probably eagerly join the UASOM 2014 group if I were accepted. The fact that the group is only at 80 now is a bit baffling, given a projected class size of ~175. There is a [remote] chance that many more people than expected have turned down acceptances, and UAB is currently scrambling to prepare to release a large group of waitlisters to get the class back into an acceptable range for this date. The lull in acceptances could be explained as some kind of damage-control/ mass reallocation of acceptances that will soon occur

3- "No one cares about may 15 deadline" theory- I see this as likely. It would explain the lull in acceptances (class is full- no need to offer more) and the low FB group numbers (people aren't sure they want to go to UAB yet-need more time to decide, therefore didn't join group). While UAB is an awesome school, it is expensive for OOSers, and it may be kind of a backup choice for them. They may be holding onto acceptances, but not really taking it seriously (therefore, no FB group), and waiting for their instate instiutions or dream schools to come through.

I like #2.... let's go with that theory! 😛

2- Facebook theory ...

Take this with a grain of salt. I'm currently in the group, but will be deleting my facespace account very soon. I have a great many friends in higher education who share the same aversion to facebook as I, so don't presume the group size honestly reflects the number of those who have committed to a UAB acceptance.

Just sayin'.

Don't even take it with a nano gram of salt; I said I was just having fun. Although, last year's group is 173...so they must really like facebook!

I love Facebook! Minus the always changing privacy settings and the selling of your private information... OH, and the random middle eastern stalkers... and awkward pictures that I wish were never taken let alone posted on the interwebs... I would probably leave too ddroukas if it weren't for my insane addiction to Farmville...

I mean you would think that at least one person from our little list would have gotten in as a result of the May 15th deadline. Hopefully they just haven't notified anyone yet

that has to be the case....doesn't it typically move about a whole tier around may 15th? i know that might not be the case this year, but in the past i think it used to move almost a whole tier.

Last year they pretty much went through the whole middle third. Some people were notified on the 15th( a Friday) ... So I'm a little worried at this point haha

Tidefan got in on the 13th -

I'm not sure, but I would not necessarily assume that on May 14th tons of people just all of a sudden decided to decline their acceptance. I mean it's probably been occurring all along for the last month or so, hence the relatively quick pace through the first tier. In the past they may have waited till may 15 to release the bulk of WL acceptances; this year it seems like they've been doing it all along.

the only thing that makes me not buy in to this theory is that there has been nobody get in this week off SDN. i just think there has to be more people dropping around May 15th than any other time. It might not move as much this year as it did last year, but the fact that nobody has gotten in this week makes me think that they havent sent out acceptances to those whose spots came from May 15th drops yet. I realize there could be some that have gotten in that arent on SDN, but I'm sure between all of us, one of us would have at least heard about.

Also, I called about setting up feedback and they told me that they didnt typically do that until they were sure they wouldnt get to me on the wait list. They said to call back around in the 24th. They said that I still had a reasonable shot. I'm 3rd tier. This tells me one of two things: 1) they think that getting well into the third tier is a definite possibility or 2) I'm near the top of the third tier. Hopefully, for my sake, both of those are true.

also if it just has to be postmarked by the 15th, they could conceivably still be getting letters today.

I agree with Tully. While there are obviously a lot of people who didn't wait until May 15 to drop their acceptance, I would think that a pretty large percentage of people do wait until then.

I also requested feedback and was told pretty much the samething (i am also 3rd tier)

I'm on third as well. I guess I could call and request feedback as well...if they say the same thing, I would think it's safe to assume that they think it's a real possibility that they are going to penetrate deep into the third tier.

I mean, what is the likelihood that all three of us are top of third tier?

Im pissed! I really thought we would be seeing a lot of movement by this point! I'm just very impatient after all of this waiting..

When I first emailed them about feedback they told me the same thing. But recently, they said that i could set up an appointment. She also said letting me make an appointment did not reveal anything about if I'd get accepted or not and that there's no telling if I would. I'm on the third tier.

That's actually what happened with me also. I freaked out at first because they didn't say anything about it not being an indication of whether or not I would get in when they set up my feedback appointment, but then they reassured me that it wasn't.

Edit: I just remembered that you will be turning down your acceptance. If you could, just tell UAB that you would like to give your spot to auburnO5. Thanks!

Same here, I emailed the lady and she reassured me it didn't indicate anything. I was trying to get more info abt lower tier acceptances too but she avoided the topic so oh well.

Hey guys! I got accepted off the middle tier today at 4:24 pm. Thanks for the support!

This may sound like a crazy question, but do they let people off the waitlist defer? I just got a national scholarship to go abroad for a year and do something amazing (though I can't say details or else it would no longer be anonymous)...but if I can't defer I guess I will give up the scholarship!

Congrats - I think you should defer - sounds like a great opp - plus it will give your slot to hopefully one of us -

That would make 2 accepted off middle tier that would give it up!!! - Keep rollin!

Wow, so only six from sdn on the middle tier remain to be accepted. I wonder if there's a smaller middle third or if most of the middle third waitlisters don't have sdn. Just a thought.

Interestingly enough, I was accepted to South a day after my interview...but now I'm giving up my spot there.

BEST OF LUCK TO EVERYONE! After speaking to someone reliable, I really am confident that they will make it to the lower third.

I know you all don't care as much as I do.... but I just got my new MCAT scores and I got a 31!!! WOOT!!! 😀 Which is soooo much better then my 26!! YAY ME!

Congrats! Hope you don't have to reapply but if u do, a 31 is a very strong score!
