Hey premeds

Quick question: I grew up in Natick MA and graduated from Natick High School...I've been living in NY for almost 6 years this summer and graduated from a NYC college recently.

However, UMass Amherst looks like a great school for me. Does anyone know how I have to go about meeting the residency requirements again?

For instance can I take a job in NYC this summer but still claim my primary residence in MA b/c I get mail there? I guess I can just file taxes in MA next year to...

Anyone know???

yeah, i think you would have to file your taxes in the state of MA, esp if your permanent residence is there. i haven't actually lived in massachusetts for almost 7 years now (4 years of college + 1 year of grad school + ~2 years working outside of MA), but since i graduated from a MA high school and filed my taxes in MA with my parents, i was still considered a MA state resident. i hope that helps.

Does anyone know when the committee makes the waitlist?

If I remember right, last year tons of waitlists went out like 4/22 or so. That might be off a bit, check the old thread to be sure. Rejections (for non waitlisters) started like half a week-a week into May.

Actually a bunch of wailists went out last year at 4/12. Then some more 4/22, and the rejections in may.

Thanks for the info, do you also know how the WL works? Is it ranked?

Did nyone with january interviews hear back?

Also can someone give me a link for checking the status?

Here is the link to the peoplesoft sign-in page. Once signed in, click on the self service menu on the left of the page. Then click the accept admission link and it will state whether the admissions committee has made a decision on your application. (Clearly I have done this WAY too many times!)

Hey guys!

Quick question about the secondary app and residency varification...

Do you remember which taxes they requested in the residency varification? State or Federal?

Just trying to get stuff ready for when I apply!

Thanks guys....

I interviewed in January and have not heard anything yet .... i am starting to wonder what UMASS is going to do before April comes in! 😕

When i filled out mine they didn't end up asking for any copies of my taxes just what years I had filed in MA (since I didn't grow up here/graduate from high school). My guess if they asked though would be state...

I interviewed in Dec and am basically just hoping for waitlist at this point.

So, this is my first time posting...basically because my patience is wearing thin. It's now time to commiserate with everyone. I interviewed 2/2 at UMass and am still waiting to hear. I've received an acceptance and have been waitlisted at other schools, so I have to at least be in the ballpark. UMass is definitely my top choice because it is such a good school, in my price range, I wouldn't have to relocate very far (from Boston), my fiance wouldn't have to find a new job, etc, etc.

I called today and the admissions office said it could be anytime between now and May. Ahhh, trying to get comfortable living in limbo...good luck everyone!!

tomorrows the last friday of the month and it doesn't seem like there's been many acceptances lately so...let's cross our fingers!

Ditto! I was told to avoid SDN like the plague, as it makes you more neurotic. After having reviewed the last 2 years of posting, have decided that someone should make a spreadsheet (and/or timeline) of all the acceptances/waitlists recorded. If everyone has been waiting for months, that doesn't make me feel anything but paranoid about my odds coming out of a Feb interview. I do however love the belief that Friday's bring acceptances (much like x-mas); not sure there's the evidence to back it up though!

same here... i interviewed in feb, and have heard nothing. i have an acceptance as well, but UMass is my top choice. i'm just a little annoyed at the untimeliness of the decision process. my fiance is trying to bank in on that first-time homebuyer's credit, but we can't make an offer on a house (where the deadline is the end of April) until i know for sure where i'll be going for school. SIGHH, i hope people hear some good news today! :luck:

An email was sent out to all accepted students about the MOE trip before classes. For some reason all the names were individually listed instead of sending an email to the class of 2014 list. Figured I'd do a quick headcount in case people wanted to know how many people are currently accepted. So far there are 95 people.

In other good news, figures on NIH funding for 2009 per med school were released. UMass moved up from 37th to 35th in total NIH funding for med schools:

Thanks Toadsworth, that's really encouraging actually! :xf:to everyone else still waiting to hear back (I've been doing so since September 😛)

Thanks! This IS encouraging! I interviewed in December I am also expecting a WL or (hopefully not!) rejection at this point. I felt one interview went well, the other one was kinda meh(the only one of the whole season where I felt the interviewer didn't like me🙁). Umass is my top choice for all the same reasons you guys listed. It's great to know they've only let in about half of the people they'll eventually let in. hopeful :xf::xf::xf:

Wow so don't they need to have offered 125 acceptances by march 30th per the aamc rules?

AAMC "recommends" this, whatever that means. However, I checked the facebook umass class of 2014 group and there are a couple people in there that aren't on the list so maybe something's up? Regardless, I'd assume they'll accept a few more people in the next week. Good luck

To the accepted students, has there been any news on second look?

Same thing happened to me. I got grilled by one interviewer and the other one was really nice and went well

Can someone tell me how UMass informs its applicants of their status for accept, reject, and waitlist? Do they mail, email, call? Thanks!!

they will email you. looks like many students find out on fridays.

Mine was more of a vibe thing...I just got bad vibes from her 🙄

What's really funny is that my friend's boyfriend goes to UMass and this came up last week and it turns out that he had the same interviewer and felt like she didn't like him either! He got in off the waitlist in june. I really don't know if it's just her or what cause my friend's bf is a nice guy. (I'm nice too😛!) but yeah, she was givin me some real weird vibes. lol

How receptive is UMass to updates/LOIs?

Nobody ever answered this and I've been wondering the same thing. I am definitely going to send a letter but I'm not sure if it's better to send it now or wait til I get waitlisted..or do both? Anyone? I'm feelin desperate here...

My understanding is that they are not particularly receptive to them. I sent one anyway - I hope it doesn't hurt me.

My guess is we'll see at most a few more acceptances and then a ton of waitlists in the coming weeks. I'm hoping for even a shot at the WL :xf:.

Anyone know if the 2010 match list for UMass is out yet?

Is Umass still accepting ppl?
I guess no one with post-january interviews have received any news yet?

Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that a few friends of mine got accepted to UMass on Monday (3/29).

How many is a few?

I suppose that these would be the last acceptances before the waitlist is announced.

A few=2. So I guess we're all hoping for the WL at this point?

My first thought :

FFFF BOMMMMMBBBBBBBBB. I laugh only because I just died a little inside.

Oh Umass, why don't you love me like I love you? 😕 😍😍😍

EDIT :

Umass response: :meanie:

Tomorrow's Friday again, should we be holding our breath? Or is all acceptance hope lost?😳

Tomorrows a holiday though...so I wouldn't get too excited.

Last year, the whole Friday thing which seemed (Maybe?) true during the year broke down in April, so Fridays might be less important to worry about now.

I just found out I was waitlisted!!! I'm so excited. I was hoping for a spot on the waitlist since I've been waiting since November.

I ALSO JUST GOT WAITLISTED!😱 I'm really relieved! I thought I would feel depressed about this but I feel just relief. NOT GIVING UP! Seriously, at least it's not a rejection! 😀

By email, 25 minutes ago now... I interviewed in December. I wonder if they are notifying everyone today??? Umass has such a funny way of doing things😕

I interviewed in mid-March and haven't heard anything yet. I have already heard back from the two other schools where I interviewed around the same time as my UMass interview. 1 acceptance and 1 waitlist. But UMass is my top choice.

Also Waitlisted. Interviewed in early feb, 3.7/32R, non-traditional.

Grats guys! Tons of the class generally comes in off the waitlist so you have a great shot still!

Bit sad I didn't get the same email myself, but I imagine it's too early to start worrying for real.

I kind of wish I had gotten that e-mail as well. Did anyone whose interview e-mail went to spam originally find that this one went to spam as well? My main worry is that I'm not on the waitlist, but an even worse fate would be to have the waitlist e-mail sent to me and not receive it.🙁

does the waitlist at UMass really move that much?
I havent heard from them yet for a month now, so I guess that means waitlist or rejected...
