do something to take ur mind off of it, we dont want you to burn out before even entering med school 😀 besides, you already have some great acceptances, right? its ok to rest on those laurels a little 🙂
Still want to go to the "U"! It would be the best situation for me, so I am really hoping.

lstone, I know how you feel about being nervous. I have already convinced myself that we wont hear that day anyway so I don't go nuts.

I called up there yesterday and the lady said that the awards packages should go out within a week or so.

arg, they told me this week when i asked last week...i asked a school that had an ealy deadline to extend it through this week, now maybe i have to ask again? miamis being pretty weird this year, the late secondaries, the boca situation, and now this. ugh.

I just withdrew. I hope one of the people still waiting gets a call soon. The financial "aid" package simply sucked. So, good luck to anyone still waiting.

Sad to see you go 🙁 But, you actually got your package? Mail or email?

Did you receive your award package?

Sad to see me go, too!

I was getting impatient, so I called the financial aid office (their number is on their website) and they detailed it to me on the phone: a combination of Staffords and GradPlus, all loans... I said "thank you," very politely and immediately wrote a very curt e-mail to notify them of my withdrawal.

Hey guys -

I too had a pretty disappointing financial 'aid' package (checked it on the myUM page). Just loans...

I'm out of state and the prospect of taking out 64k a year in loans is too much. I just withdrew (even though hitting the send button was hard) - I hope someone on the waiting list gets some good news soon 🙂

Good luck 👍

Wait, how do we log onto the myUM page?

And sorry to see you guys go 🙁

nm, I figured it out. For those who are wondering, here's how you access it:

1) First, go to this site: https://myum.miami.edu/

2) Create an account with your SSN/DOB/etc.

3) Log in, go to Student(top left) > Financial > Current Awards(on the left side) > Fall & Spring (2010-2011)

Dingy have you decided where you're going yet?

just out of curiosity, anyone know what the grand total is next year for in-staters?

this link may be of assistance:

couldnt find anticipated numbers for next year, but as far as i kno, it should be pretty much the same since the 10% tuition increase is only hitting florida public schools

Tuition will be the same next year for what I believe is the 4th year in a row.

Even with a scholarship, my loans are 50k a year :scared:

I'm withdrawing from Miami. There are some fantastic people on this thread though and I wish you all the best of luck with your medical education. 👍

soak in the sun for me!

hey man, so where'll u end up?

Anyone have any info on how overflowing this school is with accepted students (FAU all comeing to Miami now)? Think there will be any waitlist movement here? I really liked this one...

Nice, I know someone who's going there too. Good luck man!

thanks! I will miss the prospect of a warm December though lol. And (not that it matters), I'm female 🙂

So has anyone heard of any movement here?

Yes! I was accepted off the Alternate list on Monday (wooooooo!!!!!)
But to be a little more clear on this, I believe I was accepted earlier than they usually do since I wrote to them quite a while ago because the acceptance I was holding was at an early start school and I was worried I wouldn't hear from them till it was too late for me to change schools. When I wrote to them initially, they informed me that there would be no movement till on (or slightly after) the 15th. I don't know if there have been other acceptances but I haven't heard of any. I would expect movement starting next week or around there. I cannot be certain but it sounded like there would be more movement in the coming weeks. Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Congrats Lyrics!

Were you on the regular or temporary alternate list?

Congrats Lyrics!

Were you on the regular or temporary alternate list?

I was on the regular alternate list which is why I was so surprised. But like I said, I think the only reason I heard so early is because I kind of had to or I would have no chance of going here.

That's encouraging to hear. I'm on the regular alternate list as well.

When did you interview, Lyrics? It seems like those who interviewed earlier in the cycle (before class was completely full) were only placed on the regular alternate list.

I'm guessing after class was filled, they started adding the "temporary" wording in alternate list letters. Temporary is the higher-priority pool, near the top of the list, and regular altnernate list is for the rest of us. I interviewed on the very last interview day, and Dr. Weisman explicitly stated we should look out for the "temporary" wording.

Alvarez, if your smail-mail letter said "you're temporarily on the alternate list", then that's great news. If it just read "you're on the alternate list", then we might be in the same boat.

Good luck.

I can't remember the exact date but it was AFTER class was full. and they also told us to look for the "temporary" wording... I was really disappointed when mine didn't say "temporary." I'm sure they meant what they said that the temp list is the higher priority, but they wouldn't have a regular alt list if they didn't anticipate needing it... everyone still has a shot at this point... good luck to all though!

I too am joining the mass exodus. Withdrew today. The aid was freaking terrible. 60k a year in a market like Miami's? Peace MIA.

Yea man, people seriously don't get how expensive life in Miami is.

I feel bad for all the SDNers that automatically associate Miami with fun and South Beach, but when you start paying $14 for a vodka and tonic or a $23 for a shot of patron (without tip), you realize that Miami isn't as fun as it is cracked up to be- unless you are living on a ridiculous budget. Most people would be very unpleasently surprised about the poor quality of life down in Miami.

u need some dinero to really enjoy miami for sure, but there are still ways to have fun on the cheap.

Got in today off the temp alt list.
Agonizing trying to decide between USF and UM by Monday......:-/

Most major cities are expensive. Whoaaaaaaaaa.

A 2/2 in Brickell is only $1690/mo. A similar apartment in Boston goes for $2600/mo. That alone makes a huge difference.

Is that 1690 per person or for the entire apt? Split that between 2 people and that's fine with me lol.

its 1690 for the whole apt, so its not THAT bad, especially when compared to the other major cities. but everything else is expensive too. as some have mentioned, drinks are like at least $15 a pop there. but we prolly wont have much time to do that and i personally am not all that into clubbing anyway.

lol my biggest struggle at UM will be staying away from the clubbing and south beach, but hopefully not being able to afford it yet will be a big enough deterrent.
15 a pop wtf?
give me some of those 2 dollar buds everywhere across gville!

wow, why all the hate for Miami whodatis? =)

There's more to going out in Miami than South Beach, and if you think any one of us pays that kind of many for drinks you're out of your mind.
