So this may be too soon to ask, but does anyone know if UNC allows you to underload (10 hours) your last semester to save money? I was accepted here a few weeks ago (my # 1 school), so I'm basically tailoring the remainder of my senior year to what UNC will allow me to do.

My institution allows and approves underloads, but for insurance purposes I will no longer be declared a full-time student.
It shouldnt be a problem as long as you graduate with a degree. I would call them up just to make sure though.

thanks k. get one too!!

Okay I totally just came onto this thread to ask if I should withdraw as OOS after not having heard anything since submitting my secondary in August. I'm guessing that's a no...?

Why would you withdraw anyways? Either you get rejected or get an interview...if the latter happens then you can withdraw then and feel good about yourself .

Just got a phone call today informing me of my acceptance into UNC - YAY first one, I'm super psyched. Interviewed 10/20, In state!!

Looks like you got a decision in two weeks - did you interviesw in sept or oct. Everyone says it is taking 6-8 weeks?

I interviewed October 14 and My group was told that it would be at least December, and not to call until Christmas.

I'm OOS and still haven't gotten a secondary. Has anyone been rejected pre-secondary? Would update letters spur them to send me a secondary? I'm assuming at this point that I'm not competitive enough to receive one.

Does anyone know if there are any UNC med student blogs or websites (I've seen some for other schools and they are usually pretty helpful when trying to learn about a school)?

I just got an OOS interview invite! Didn't expect it at all.🙂

I Interviewed Oct 20 - The committee meets once every 2 weeks. They said it usually takes a minimum of 4 weeks, but a current first year student at UNC said if you have great stats and a lock to get in they can push him/her through at the next committee meeting.

You can try because it probably won't hurt. UNC is very slow and the office personnel are not very friendly to deal with. It is understandable beacuse of the volume of applications and the calls they get from applicants.

What is the lock you are refering to? For most, like the other bloggers are saying it is a 6 to 8 weeks time frame and no less based on what they are hearing at interview.

the whole "lock" thing... I think that's just an expression - someone who has great stats and a HUGE chance to get accepted. I was also told 6-8 wks, perhaps longer. I'm expecting to hopefully hear back in that time frame and no earlier b/c my stats are average/good. Interviews went well though so I think it's good news to any of us who haven't been rejected at this point. Just cycling through.

I apologize if this has been previously addressed in this thread but I did a search and couldn't find any info.

Has anyone taken advantage of the student host option? If so, do they drop/pick you from the airport and/or interviews?

Does it cost money?

Hey cher, I don't know from experience (I'm local) but I would imagine it would depend on their schedule. Most students live in town on bus lines so you could take the bus from your student host to the interview. As far as getting to and from the airport, another option would be the RDU Airport Taxi which is around $40.

No student is going to charge you money unless they're a complete @$$

hahaha

also excellent appropriate usage of they're/their/there (can't tell you how many people I know that mess up stuff like that 😛 )

I thought UNC didn't send out rejection letters until the end of the cycle after they determined the wait list.

Did anyone else waiting on a decision from UNC receive a "you have been designated as in-state for tuition purposes" letter earlier this week?

Definitely got scared and thought it was a rejection/waitlist when I saw the thin envelope

Nope.

That sounds like a good sign though.

i did- so scary!!!:scared:

they should put a warning on the front of the envelope

I received that same envelope last year. It freaked me out too when I first received it.

2 weeks since the last meeting of the adcom is tomorrow (11/16).

Anyone still in that pre-secondary phase they claim isn't a rejection?

yea, I believe the committee meets on Monday.

is anyone else nervous every other monday evening now? It's really too early for me to expect any news but I'm still very aware of whether it's an adcom monday or not. I want UNC love so badly. sigh....

So I guess I am not the only one stalking their inbox every other monday evening!!

Somebody earlier in the thread had stated the committee member had called him the night of the decision. It also looked like members were called later in the week following the meeting too.

I believe UNC does not email, they call and use snail mail.

I'm in!!!!!!! I actually cried over the phone when they told me. Oh my gosh this is sooo exciting. I'll be seeing everyone in the fall since I was praying for UNC all along. (I got my call at 6:45) Yaaaaayyyyyyy!!!!

COngrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is so exciting!!!!!

When did you interview? And who was your interviewer?

What was your MCAT/GPA? I am just asking because I am wondering whether they are still just accepting people with high stats.

omg thats sooo exciting!!! congrats!! hopefully I will get that call soon and will see you in the fall!

amt I think we interviewed on the same day - chatted about the camp where you worked w/ disabled kids? crossing my fingers for us both 🙂

Take heart! My numerical stats are nothing stellar: 3.8 cumulative, 3.5 science, 31 MCAT. However I have 5+ years of full-time experience in the healthcare field both here and abroad and am committed to practicing primary care in NC. I really felt that they valued my experience and weighed that much more heavily than my acceptable but definitely not stellar stats. Thank the Lord! I guess what I learned is that if you just stick to and really focus on whatever aspect of medicine calls you they will see and appreciate that dedication. I interviewed the last week of October. See folks in the fall in Chapel Hill!!!!!!!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah we did! have you heard anything yet?? I have a friend from HS I talked to the other day and he just got accepted...he interviewed Oct 16th.

Has anyone gotten a "reviewed, but no final decision" email?

Has anyone gotten a "reviewed, but no final decision" email?

YES! Just got it. I called Randee Reid to see if she might be able to clarify it for me and she was kind of evasive actually. She basically said the e-mail said exactly what it meant and that "the admissions comittee was still reviewing my file."

Anyone else have thoughts?

are you guys talking pre or post interview?

I got this too. Post interview. I interviewed in early october.

They wouldn't bother sending this if they'd already rejected us, right? Or is this like being waitlisted? Not sure how to take it.

Post interview for me too and I interviewed the second week in October as well. It's definitely not a rejection, I just can't tell if it means we were presented to the committee by our reviewers or not.

I never got an email like that last year post-interview. Maybe it's a new thing they're doing this year to cut back on the "has my file been presented to the committee yet" calls. My best guess is that it means you've been discussed and placed in that "we'll look again later" pile that they explained the majority of applications do. It's better then a rejection or a wait list so keep your hopes up!

Now.... if they would only let me come interview again this year

post. I got it too. Take it at face value -- UNC isn't a mind games school. You're continuing to be reviewed -- it's a status update.

wish they'd have sent me a better letter though 😛. Alas, back to the waiting game.
